Super crisp - one of the best tutorial formats I’ve seen ... watching people spending 45 seconds telling people how to fret basic chords or 2nd fret 5th string .... makes me want to light my eyelashes on fire... Even if people would just say the notes .. like if people don’t know where all the B are all over the neck they shouldn’t be learning a song like this they should be watching CAGED videos or other more foundational instructional ... IMHO Your playing is on point .. it’s the subtle dynamics that separate good from excellent, amateur from pro
Fantastic lesson, thank very much. I like how you explain how to do the tricky chord shapes clearly, it really helps. Please keep the guitar lessons coming, the more ABBA the better I say!
Saying 'I have liked ABBA all my life' is like standing up at your first AA / Gamblers Anonymous meeting all at the same time, sat round a table with fellow miserable guys who have been secretly denying any love of life, fun, innocence and Abba, breaking out of the repression, jumping up from the table and screaming ... I love fun, I love ABBA, maybe most important 'i want to love and be loved?' .. i have been miserable all my life hating fun and anyone having fun, thank you Benny Bjorn Anna and Agnetha ... thank you for the music!
GREAT CLIP. S.O.S IS PROBABLY MY MOST FAVORITE ABBA SONG. I REMEMBER MY MUM AND DAD LISTENING TO IT ON THE RADIO AND THEY LOOKED SO HAPPY. GREAT MEMORIES.
Absolutely excellent , perfect lesson ! You are trasmitting in Your videos the love for the music and the deep knowledge that You have for , and Your great personality ( I knew Abba , but untill I have discover Your videos I never realized that were so much in those ligth rock songs ) TY !!! ( sorry for my English )
I have played on and off and learned the basic chords in my twenties. Now I am retired and learning every day. Guitar Pilgrim your teaching style and demonstrations are exceptional. I am 64 years old and trying to learn how to play Abba's S.O.S. for past week not thinking I would accomplish it unless I really dug in. I listened to your lesson an in one week I almost have about 80% of it down.
Brilliant. So well explained…..however I prefer to play it in first position but it’s great to get the two bars before the chorus explained (where there are 4 changes per bar…how cool is that) as a couple of the chords where eluding me. Thanks for posting.
I love ABBA to! Brilliant arrangements, superb composition! Always remember when you practice a song, the most important thing is to have fun with it. It's ok to make mistakes! I always liked Jimi Hendrix'remark, he once said: I've been imitated so well, I've heard people copy my mistakes :)
Thank you so much. I always wanted to cover this, but got rid of my 12-string before I could. Not too much of an ear for capo placement. Absolutely brilliant, and more fun, and easier than the top of the neck 12-string version! Thank you, again, and subbed! :D
Mamma Mia 2 seems to be entertaining a lot of the folk at my mother's dementia group, so I was wandering around RUclips thinking about learning some Abba to play for them. Which is how I stumbled into your excellent tutorial. You really captured the essence of the song in your version! 36 hours later I'm having /way/ more fun than I expected playing along with Abba, while Mum taps her foot along with the music. So thanks for cheering us both up. Whether Mum's group will be cheered up by my Agnetha impersonation is a different matter. Maybe if I get some glittery boots it'll help distract them from my lousy singing? Who knows, perhaps I'll sing better with a broken ankle. :-) The strange thing about this is that in the mid-70s Mum bought me a mono tape recorder for Christmas, with my first ever music cassette... an Abba album. I was heartbroken at the time; I wanted Tubular Bells! But 40 years later I'm realising my Mum was wiser than I thought. It just took me a while to realise it. Of course now it's too late to tell her. "You seem so far away, though you are standing near" has never been so appropriate than when dealing with dementia. Ok, enough rambling. I think I should have stopped at thanks! :->
Oh, and as someone else points out... great editing. I've done some video editing in my time, and I know how long it takes to put something like this together.
Thank you Andrew, I appreciate the feedback, I am glad you find the video useful! Mama mia is a good suggestion, I'll look into that, One thing is for sure; I will definitely do more Abba songs! What a great thing that people who suffer from dementia very often still react so strong when they hear music, it's the power of music, a beautiful thing
I really like the way you handled this one, I used to think it was impossible to play it like you did on guitar - well done. I wonder if you might try "Mexican girl" (Smokie) especially the guitar solo sometime in the future. Thanks
Do you have tips for making the change from Dm to the F barre chord please? I’m really struggling with this particular change. You probably tell what level I’m at. This one lesson really has inspired to start learning the guitar again, thank you so much 🎸
You're welcome mate! Dm to F in the chorus, you'll want to do four strums on the dm: up up down up, make you sure on the last up-strum you're only pressing the 3rd string and hold your 2nd finger on to the F chord. Also you can try to play the F a bit more simple, for instance instead of playing the F, try Fmaj7 with just three fingers (003210)
Fantastic guitar player I am very talented on the guitar I am partially deaf I love music I still have two guitars one is acoustic guitar and classical guitar and I will practice SOS tab practice make perfect
Hi Linda, Thanks so much for supporting the channel, I appreciate it so much! Let me know how it goes with SOS! If you need any technical help with the song, message me on patreon! Best to you!
Picking, weird chords, fast changes, strumming variations... it looks like the perfect song to practice ! (but where do I find the patience to put all that together?)
GP, you are one awesome player, instructor, and on-screen performer.....but have to ask, did the real Pete Townshend actually make the statement in your caption? Was that comment sincere or was he just putting the listener on? Not that I discount the observation, but coming from rock song writer whose compositions bordered on pop ......that's quite an attestation to Abba's accomplishment. Never heard that attributed to Townshend.
Guitar Pilgrim ruclips.net/video/yewSDCsT0nE/видео.html It is a remake .... The original is shower curtain scene from the 1st karate kid movie The original band ... ha, the karate kid, yes the 80's , those where the day's! The song is great but it's probably a little bit to obscure to do a whole tutorial on. But who knows, maybe when I have a bit of free time, I'll have a look at it :)
This music reminds me watchig. TV and seeing Iraq war unfold. Abba was popular for me while I was young in those times. I always associate the 2nd Iraq war sith the songs

Great guide 1:52 intro, 4:16 verse, 5:55 verse buildup 7:25 chorus, 9:25 build up chorus ,10:55 solo
Fantastic lesson, thank very much. I like how you explain how to do the tricky chord shapes clearly, it really helps. Please keep the guitar lessons coming, the more ABBA the better I say!

Nice work! Abba is one of my guilty pleasures and S.O.S. is one of my favorites.
The song popped into my head at Christmas time in 2021 after so many years. How great are the vocals and composition.
I absolutely loved this! Great song, great format and hugely inspiring! Thank you so much!

Hey Barry, that's great to hear! Abba's S.O.S. is not an easy song to do, if you can play 80% then you're almost there!! Keep it up!
And that, my friend, was awesome!
Great song, great lesson. It sounds so good on an acoustic, thanks. Subscribed.
Very good! Congratulations!
Great tuortial and great editing

the late bloomer as I am ... nonetheless a great and perfect tutorial of this great song. Well done and thanks a bunch.
fantastic...!!!
how did you isolate those vocals? it's like you're playing with Abba!!
Just bought myself a lovely 12 string guitar this would sound good on it.
Hi John, a 12 string! that's awesome, Abba on a 12 string, it doesn't get any better than that!
@@GuitarPilgrim oh it does sound amazing on a 12 string. Do you have a link to the backing track you played too? Great video btw very helpful thanks.

🙌🙌🙌👊♥
do Hey dude but nice vid
you mean hey jude by the beatles?
Guitar Pilgrim Yes sorry spelling mistake but that would be great
All right, I will do a video on hey jude! you can expect to see it on the channel this month!
It's pretty difficult chords apparently 😅
Too many unusual chords used. its difficult for me to memorize those .. 😆
Nice lesson but man way too fast for a beginner. Slowing it down would help.
this is not a beginners lesson my friend
You can change the speed yourself
This music reminds me watchig. TV and seeing Iraq war unfold. Abba was popular for me while I was young in those times. I always associate the 2nd Iraq war sith the songs
этот парень прекрасен.
Stop with the capo... Teach the guitar!
