A good computer is far more important than a good monitor. I wouldn't even look at any monitors over 200$ until you have a pc that can do 1440 at 60 fps with max settings on some of the most hardware intensive games of the year. Games normally look better running them at higher settings rather than higher resolutions if given the choice. My monitor is a 99$ staples 1080p 60hz special. @@dreed100 thanks buddy! it's still unlikely that anything breaks but I meant just more likely. Monitors to me are just big hit-boxes waiting to be struck by anything that happened to be flung their way. Also backlight issues are very common.
To every one commenting about buying right before this video came out, BE HAPPY. I waited. TOO LONG. None of them are available now. I'm ready to buy and all 3 of my top picks, Asus VG27AQ, LG GL850-B AND the LG GL83A-B are all out of stock with no restock in sight. Across the board from all the retailers I know Amazon/Newegg/MicroCenter/BH/BestBuy with no luck. I'm still checking them until one of them pops.
The one I have my eye on at Micro Center didn't make the list. 🥺 It's the MSi Optix MAG241CP, an update of the 241C with a height-adjustable base. Reviews seem to be virtually non-existent, so any info about that particular model would be appreciated.
It's a ok monitor that do the job for it's price range, a friend has one for his first PC setup he just completed, the brightness are lowish depending on you, but the overall experience of it to him is good he's not a color accurate by the pixel snob nor use it for any type of artistic work (cause it isn't that good) simply gaming and streaming content is useable.
I picked up the msi optix mag341cq and my god it is the best bang for buck I've ever spent. Got it from Microcenter for $317. Gaming on it is beautiful, watching movies is not...If you have a TV and only want to game on a cheap monitor, get the msi. Also, it is listed as a free sync to g-sync compatible monitor.
Gravy Grizz I think the dell gaming monitors are so underrated because they don’t have good viewing angles and they look like regular monitors as opposed to the ones with ugly red or ridiculous rgb behind them. I generally like to sit directly in front of my monitor when I’m gaming so neither of those two affect me. Maybe it’s just me. I guess I should try gaming while staring at the red accents or rgb on back, or maybe turning my monitors sideways for that “sweetsop viewing angle “ 🤷🏻♀️. Maybe I’ll suddenly go pro?
@@Little_Bitz idk, I think that viewing angle is kinda irrelevant considering you sit in front of the monitor anyways. It gets really good colors and the refresh rate is soooo nice compared to 60hz
I had to scroll too far to find the Dell recommendations. I've had an S2716DG and S2417DG (I dig the asymmetry) and they are fantastic. It started a chain reaction of my friends purchasing that model or the dgf variant and none of them are disappointed. In fact, two friends just bought dgf's last night from our Micro Center for $290 a pop. Don't sleep on the Dell gaming monitors, people!
I wish this video would have went out a few weeks earlier. I just bought a MSI Optix MAG271C 27" 144hz curved monitor for $230. At first I hated it and even printed out a return label. After spending several hours tweaking (literally like 3 hours) the settings over a few days I managed to get it where I like it and I'm happy with the purchase. I have been gaming on a 60 FPS TV for the past 10 yrs so this thing was life changing. Games I had put 100s of hours into were like a whole new game at 144Hz, I can never go back. If you buy this DO NOT USE ANY DEFAULT SETTINGS. You have to hook the monitor up to your PC with incl cable and download the MSI software. It takes a lot of patients but was worth it imo. Like I said this is my first 144hz monitor so maybe it's actually trash compared to others out there but I like it a lot for now
2:22 I'm looking at that one now in 2022. Tho it's the non-curved and updated Q27G2 model. Price has stayed the same it seems, 260Eur where I live. In my store of choice it's the cheapest option that ticks all the boxes: QHD, 144Hz, 1ms, 27"
The day this video came out, I purchased a 27" LG GL63T for $200. It's extremely similar to the GL 850, boasting G-Sync and 144Hz. Definitely recommend for the price I paid
We need another one of these with the hp gaming 25/24.5 144hz green led. I need to know if it’s shit please do it. I saw one in Best Buy and I was blown away with how crisp and clean the picture was.
I bought a Dell something. It’s 4K. 60Hz. Gets fairly bright. Not HDR and doesn’t have the best color accuracy. But I love it. It was $250 and has a lot of screen real estate. And I’m running it from a laptop through a dock. I’m happy with it

@@jaggsta just got my girlfriend a 27" specter 1080p 75hz for $99. It's just a second monitor for her computer not for gaming so she doesn't need 144hz. Hopefully this one is just as good of quality as the other specter. I got it because it has built in speakers too for only $99
After the first THREE? You've gone too far mate. In my country, anything more than 24" 1080p 60hz monitors has high price.
That AOC for $250 is extremely appealing. The ultrawide 1440p model is going to be even crazier once it's widely available at the $450 mark
Your outro and the windows noise were absolutely hilarious, thanks.
boy that’s gonna hert my wallet.
Nice, dude.
Boy, my wallet hertz after that.

Sorry I forgot my full stop.
*boah thatz gun hert mi valletta*
I like that LG 38gl950G monitor. It was interesting to hear Linus switched back to it for his home use.
Go for the 27" Zowie, it's amazing
Jordan Ault almost did but I think a1440 at that size would make more sense.
1: there isn't just one Zowie monitor with 27 inches
2: there are much better gaming monitors
Does it make you go owie?
Bruh. Tbh I just want 4k 60hz that works with g-sync. I already have a 1440p 144hz monitor.
Just have to wait for the Acer Predator X35 to go on sale for $89.99
Ah yes, that will surely happen
Just purchased the Asus VG27AQ bc of this recommendation! Thank yall for what you guys do!!
Im drooling for this monitors. all I need is an IPS where I can watch good movies
lol that's the shirt the girl on the rig reboot 2019 memelord video was wearing xD
I love how he throws shade on Beats sound tech in the first 20 seconds
3:36 Linus calling the 500$ LG monitor "mid-range"... while I consider anything over 300 is high-end. After that it's enthusiast and then "I wipe my tears with 100$ bills"-range
Well..
You upgrade monitor less often than everything else. Spending a little extra on it is not so bad.
@@dreed100 Well yeah sort of, they do tend to break more often and quicker than other parts/components . Anyways I just wanted to highlight how poor I am 😔.
@@adebowalekonstantinov404 aww sorry to hear that.
I never had a monitor last less than 5 years. My secondary now is 7 years old now. Was main once.
@@dreed100 thanks buddy! it's still unlikely that anything breaks but I meant just more likely. Monitors to me are just big hit-boxes waiting to be struck by anything that happened to be flung their way. Also backlight issues are very common.
“Curved... if you’re into that”
he might like to combine that with some THICC graphics card from XFX... ;)
Nothing better than a nice curve
* Shows Lara Croft while saying that *
Once you go curved...
It's a decent monitor but there are certainly much better options out there.
@@8691man Good to know. I have a Sony XBR for movies, so gaming and some productivity is all I need. Thanks!

This comment definitely deserves more likes than the other try hards
But humans have only been around for about 200,000 years
that makes me even more depressed
@@xx_pcgamer_xx6866 Whatever number you choose, I'm still gonna be sad.
i remember that screwdriver from the testing and it even assembled monitors from opposing brands just as good. clear winner!
Finally, someone who acknowledges that a lot of people have to pick and order their presents just to be given them on Christmas.
What do you mean "finally"?
I just picked up a Dell S2719dgf definitely recommend
I bought one this black friday. I'm running an nvidia gpu though.
@@cocoonmasterplays9100 I forgot, do Nvidia GPU's support FreeSync? Or just G-Sync
Like I said this is my first 144hz monitor so maybe it's actually trash compared to others out there but I like it a lot for now
Linus, No one buys you gifts?
Welcome to the club
Thx I actually needed this
Thanks obama
i will always remember this video as “The video i was watching when i popped a blood vessel in my head and then passed out”
10:55 I thought my phone was glitching out lmao 😂
phones don't make that sound though
Moeyz69 yea well I barley use my phone and don’t really understand the sounds lmao 😆
Its the sound that windows makes when u plug in anything on to the usb port.
U think of all the times he’s benchmarked csgo on computers he would have learnt to stand still when shooting
Gonna make a 2020 edition??
Would be very nice just before Black Friday...
"balls to the Holly decked walls" is still my favorite quote ever

Micro Center rocks. So much fun just to go and wander around.
Mentions Freesync on most affordable monitor
1:25 *screen tearing*
Prob had it off
Wasn't that tested on El cheapo?
If you go beyond the monitors max refresh rate you will still get screen tear with Freesync on.
monitor has freesync, but camera is off sync, so tearing is possible, but only on video file.
10:56 gave me heart palpitations
Excited to see the budget keyboard round up vid
But there is an Alienware 240 hz ips monitor with “1ms” response time.... that supposed to be the first 240 ips monitor
Probably the same panel
Lol try .5ms response at 240 fps Full hd do more research, theres at least 3 moniters better then the one you named
I’d still go with the BenQ Zowie monitors

The day this video came out, I purchased a 27" LG GL63T for $200. It's extremely similar to the GL 850, boasting G-Sync and 144Hz. Definitely recommend for the price I paid
I just want a 1080p gsync 144hz monitor without breaking the bank...
have you reviewed this one: AOC 24G2 24" Frameless Gaming IPS Monitor
We need another one of these with the hp gaming 25/24.5 144hz green led. I need to know if it’s shit please do it. I saw one in Best Buy and I was blown away with how crisp and clean the picture was.
Just saying that $80 is amazing I’ve got one it’s a beast
Same, it's great.
I only ever need to watch the first 2 minutes.
I bought a Dell something. It’s 4K. 60Hz. Gets fairly bright. Not HDR and doesn’t have the best color accuracy. But I love it. It was $250 and has a lot of screen real estate. And I’m running it from a laptop through a dock. I’m happy with it
Me watching this on my $100 23" 1080p TN from 2012 is just laughing at how far behind the 8 ball I am.
