I really like the wave stitch because it moves and you can’t see how straight it is. With the straight stitch the eye picks up anything crooked right away.

I did that last week but it was an unplanned tidy up-purge. I went through all my stash and pulled out quite a bit of fabrics I wouldn’t be using; left over from my bag making and mask sewing days plus a little pile of items I’d received in quilt boxes throughout the year, I gave them to a friend; she was thrilled. Now I’m going through my scrap bags and precutting them for future scrappy quilts.

Pat have you ever did the wave stitch on the 45 degree. Start in a corner. Do one whole side starting in the corner. Once the side is done(turn half way) p. Do the other side. You end up with diamonds. I never get puckers either. I do most all my quilts like this. They look beautiful done. I space my 45 every 3 1/2” - 4”. I make the stitch a little larger too.

  • @Linda-fs3ex

I quilt every quilt I make myself by machine. Before I do any other quilting, I use a straight stabilizing stitch with my walking foot, in the seams of every other block, or every block, depending on how big the blocks are. You can see this on the back, but not on the front. Then I do my meander or whatever free motion design I have decided to do. This stabilizing stitch enables me to take out all the pins and I don’t get any tucks on the back. The straight stitches on the back aren’t distracting at all because they are in the same color thread as the free motion stitches.

I love my serpentine/wave stitch. I have even gotten compliments on my quilt that I have entered in our county fair. I know it takes longer to sew because you can't go as fast as a straight stitch & it probably takes more thread. Some of my quilting friends say they are jealous because I have that stitch on my sewing machine. They call me the serpentine queen!!😅
