That is SO true! As somebody who worked on countless movie sets its SO weird how actors are treated like royalty, even though they really just do their part of the job like everyone else!

As an actor myself I don't like it either. For example, when I first experienced everybody waiting for the actors to get their food first, I felt really weird. But I think the reasoning behind treating actors on set the way they do is both for practical reasons and to be respectful of an actor's process.
It's practical in that not having the actors on set is good because they'll just get in the way of everyone walking around and setting up e.t.c.... You don't want an actor keeping people from doing their job quickly because the actor has nothing to do so they strike up conversations or goof off. We should only really be talking to the director (or other actors) if we have a question about the scene/our character or talking to the assistant person if we have a different question.
It respects the process because actors generally need to be alone to prep themselves for a scene, to get into character and whatever mindset the actor needs to be in. Sitting around while everyone's getting set up for the next scene, which can quite a while, can be very distracting and make it hard to stay "in the zone," especially if it's a dramatic/emotional scene.
I also think some of the more demanding/asshole-ish actors, especially in the past, have made it so the studio/whoever's in charge tells everyone to treat the actors like royalty. Because those types of actors may have flipped out about insignificant shit or whatever and the studio doesn't know if you're going to be one of those types of actors or not, so they just hedge their bets and treat you better than everyone else. However, sometimes an actor will flip out about something because the character/scene is just emotionally draining/intense, so your mental stability isn't very stable compared to the rest of the crew who's just working a normal day, so not every flip out is because the actor is a dick.

i got to do extra work with NPH on Series of Unfortunate Events and i worked beside him for 3 days before i realized it was him. I was standing right beside him. Had no idea. Mostly cause of his makeup that week, but he's really REALLY patient and quiet. Not at all what i expected. Not exactly sure what i expected. I thought he'd demand more attention I guess. Most actors won't shut up. But he just quietly would stand there waiting to be told what to do.

Ew. Who would want to be an actor in those conditions, "on some other weird level?" The whole craft is interesting, not just acting. And I'm not belittling acting in anyway. It's intense work, highly demanding, on and off set. However, I also love the whole craft of making film. I can't imagine putting as much into acting as you would and then walking away from set without another thought given to the process. Not that I'd want my hand in every aspect. I'm not arrogant enough to think I'd be needed for anything else. But I'd want to observe it, talk about it, learn about it. And spend time with the other people making the film. Why do they do what they do? What drives them? What tricks have they learned? What do they talk about? What do they see? What do they think?
Honestly, I'm glad I'm not an actor. After all that, no one would want me to be anyway. :-)

What a total load of crap.
Finds it weird that actors are on a different level?!
You ARE on a different level. You are paid more than those 40 who are actually working do....combined!
NPH doesn't feel weird. He's been an actor in film and TV his whole life. He knows that's how it works.
I'm not saying he doesn't appreciate those who actually work but he doesnt feel guilty or weird. That's a complete lie

He’s as nice a guy as you might find in Hollywood. But to say he finds it weird that he’s on a different level is laughable. He’s acting right there. He’s been around long enough to know that he is above the others. He may not show it but he knows it. It’s ok too. Doesn’t make him arrogant or anything like that. It’s just the way it is.
