I can never go back to the comedy and pretend like I don't know anything. Not anymore. After the shogun assassination arc and farewell Shinsengumi the show just always hits different but well everyone tried to watch the slip arc like nothing happened and then boom the silver soul arc

I love how almost every opening shows how Gintoki is struggling with his dark past in one way or another. Usually he's zoned out in his own head, until Kaguara and Shinpachi snap him out of it, reminding him that all he can do is protect what he has now. It's just one of the many subtle things this show does so freaking well behind all the comedy. Man i miss this show so much!!
TIP FOR NEW VIEWERS: Don’t watch the show expecting it to get better. Enjoy each episode for what it is and the lessons it teaches you. Take it slow. An episode a day is a fine pace. Gintama is not meant to be binged.
This anime means the world to me, many of us started this thinking they‘d be watching a funny comedy anime, not knowing we‘d be in for a ride. I mean, Gintama has MANY peak comedy moments but the emotional moments are just as unforgettable.

Yes op 13 slaps but you should watch Gintama, that's if your very familiar to anime. It's more enjoyable. But it's still fine if your not. Gintama is so good it's a bit of a turn off at first but when you finish it, it'd be one of your best decisions in your life

the thing that i really like about gintama is that it doesn't abandon old characters in earlier episodes, besides from the main characters anyways. like some characters seem like they would just appear once or randomly in only one episode, but then once you watch some more episodes, they eventually come back in one of the episodes.
I'm on episode 156 and have checked the comments on every single episode on Crunchyroll as I 've watched. There's always some people from 10-12 years ago saying things like "why is x character still in the OP if they never show up?" and every time I see those comments I wonder what those people are thinking. What's wrong with keeping old characters in the show? what if they eventually show up again (which happens all the time--baka ouji is an example from the first 156 episodes). It's also not like Madao or anything is particularly relevent to the story. He disappeared for like 20+ episodes multiple times just to be brought back for an arc for fun. Hell, even the Shinsengumi disappear for a sizable amount of episodes sometimes. But they're of course part of the "main cast"--even then, I love that almost every character continues being important even if they had a minor role (except for some characters that are SO minor that they only show up once ever with a few voice lines). I think the huge Gintama cast makes the show and story much more special to viewers because, the longer characters are in the show, the more emotionally connected you'll be to them, even if they're not super important--like Madao again for example. A perfect comparison is the dragon ball series that has an absolutely massive cast of characters that have been around for so long that they're all recognizable and loved. Anyway, just thought I'd give my two cents as someone still making his way through the series.
Gintama is up there, easily in the discussion for best anime of all time. I’ll definitely be in tears after the final movie but also be grateful that I could go through this journey with the entire squad.
Sadly a portion of that discussion will be about how underappreciated this anime went. The blend of emotions that this anime brought up in us fans is something that cannot be described fully. It really is something special and it's too bad that the show turns off so many early adopters due to it the unconventional way it presents its story

As someone who has rewatched the anime over and over again for 10 years, lemme tell you: if you've watched it several times for two years, your might lower your count of views but you'll still watch it at least once a year

i will never forget how much gintama has helped me through high school and life in general. when i was thinking of committing, i started gintama. safe to say gintama has helped me through every bad thing in life. i will always come back to this anime until i'm old and balding haha

I remember I used to wait for the episode each Wednesday on TV because we didn't have internet at that time so Wednesday was my favourite day of the week. This anime is one of the golden ones I watched oh god we really are getting older.
Such an underrated show. Damn, I wish more people gave it a shot. The comedy, satire, parody, references, characters and their arcs, overall story, action, music, everything’s so good.
Never has there been another anime that was so consistent with the openings. Every single song slaps so hard. This is the only show where I never skip the intro when I watch the show.

The thing I love the most about Gintama is even though it's a comedy anime, it handles serious arcs and fights better than most shonen anime. In most shonen, characters mature for the fights to happen, especially for the end fight but in Gintama, fights happen to mature the characters. The fight itself isn't the important thing, what's important is what the characters feel and learn from it.
It hits different after the final. I've just finished rewatching, and watched the final for the first time, and now I'm back to the openings, remembering first episodes and just...we didn't even know what kind of adventure was waiting for us. And now I'm just crying, such emptiness in my soul, as if a part of me was taken away. I will miss these characters and these funny, sad, gloomy, mind-defying stories. Favorite anime
Gintama is the only anime that I absolutely loved every character in it. Like damn, even the so called villains were amazing. I wish I could erase my memory and watch it again and again.

I finished the series about a week ago and I literally knew that the final movie was gonna be in theatres at the end of this month... Man, i really should've waited to see Gintama on the big screen to end this amazing series. This journey was honestly still amazing tho, I wish I could have picked it up earlier so that I could have grown up with this anime.

i will never forget how much gintama has helped me through high school and life in general. when i was thinking of committing, i started gintama. safe to say gintama has helped me through every bad thing in life. i will always come back to this anime until i'm old and balding haha

I never saw an opening better than Sakura Mitsutsuki, be it music, visuals, impact, symbolism or any criteria you may ask that opening excels at anyone. Definitely the best opening of all times
I remember I used to wait for the episode each Wednesday on TV because we didn't have internet at that time so Wednesday was my favourite day of the week. This anime is one of the golden ones I watched oh god we really are getting older.

Such an underrated show. Damn, I wish more people gave it a shot. The comedy, satire, parody, references, characters and their arcs, overall story, action, music, everything’s so good.
Gintama really never missed with the openings or endings

Never has there been another anime that was so consistent with the openings. Every single song slaps so hard. This is the only show where I never skip the intro when I watch the show.
This anime has a special place in my heart, It was so confusing at first but now looking back, the story is as beautiful as it gets

The thing I love the most about Gintama is even though it's a comedy anime, it handles serious arcs and fights better than most shonen anime. In most shonen, characters mature for the fights to happen, especially for the end fight but in Gintama, fights happen to mature the characters. The fight itself isn't the important thing, what's important is what the characters feel and learn from it.
It’s finally coming to an end. I can’t say much besides thank you so much Sorachi for this masterpiece and all the amazing memories Gintama gave us.
It hits different after the final. I've just finished rewatching, and watched the final for the first time, and now I'm back to the openings, remembering first episodes and just...we didn't even know what kind of adventure was waiting for us. And now I'm just crying, such emptiness in my soul, as if a part of me was taken away. I will miss these characters and these funny, sad, gloomy, mind-defying stories. Favorite anime

This show has carried me through this year. Despite the comedic shinanegans, it KNOWS how to pull heartstrings. I'm not ready for the final movie; if it gets a US showing, I'm going to arrive at and leave the movie theater in tears

I watched Gintama the last time 3 years ago and hearing the first opening after hating for the first time and now loving is making me cry man
We all love gintama bevause it's so real. Everyone has a past. It haunts them. Sometimes it takes the form of a demon to attack them. We all meet people from different walks of life. Different perspectives and personalities. Life isn't always happy all the time. It can get serious. You just have to live in the now,hold onto hope,be yourself and look toward tomorrow.
Life isn't perfect. Soetimes there are clear skies, sometimes there are clear skies with rainbows. Sometimes there are overcast skies and sometimes qe get hurricanes. One day at a time😊😊😊

I finished the series about a week ago and I literally knew that the final movie was gonna be in theatres at the end of this month... Man, i really should've waited to see Gintama on the big screen to end this amazing series. This journey was honestly still amazing tho, I wish I could have picked it up earlier so that I could have grown up with this anime.

Light infection always hit different for me, it does an amazing job at showing a little bit of each characters struggle, without giving away too much of the underlying plots. I wanna be, is almost perfect. Sakuramitsutsuki is PERFECT.
