U literally missed the point of the show, this show is not about a trip to Antarctica. It's about a bunch of teenagers finally stepping out of their comfort zone and taking the first step towards living the life they wanted to live. And what makes these girls different is that they r doing something not done by anyone before them.
I was wondering why I was hearing Shirase so much in the audio and then I got to clip 3:45. You can see しらせ labled on the side of the ship where the name is supposed to be. So that means the main character of the show was named after the ship... really cool to learn!
In the beginning of the series (episode 1 and 2) the ship name is still Shirase II. They changes it to Penguin Manju Go because of sponsorship purpose (storyline)
They did a live action play recently. Maybe in the last 2 months? I couldnt find any recordings though :( You can find evidence of it on the wiki page.
0:36 WTF???!!! Why is that ship flying the Naval ensign of *the Imperial Japanese Navy* ???!!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rising_Sun_Flag#/media/File:Naval_ensign_of_the_Empire_of_Japan.svg
I love how much research they clearly did to make this show
Very nice comparison.
But the real difference is cute high school girls and military dudes
Lol😂
lolololol
True true

Hard work shows, and in this anime it shines.
I love this anime so much. The animation studio really did a nice job researching the real thing
Wow exactly like in real that's just show how hard work they do in research to make anime❤
At some point I can't differentiate anime and real life, they done such a great job

Wait, the ship is named shirase?!
And in the anime it isn't, so i guess that means shirase had her name from that ship, which is quite a funny detail

the hiragana to the upper left of the '5003' at the front of the ship says Shirase
This really need some attention. It is very interesting
Now i want to go to Antarctica now what i lack was that I have no friends
Do a live action of Sora no yori mo
I'll watch it, but it will probably cost the studio more than just an arm and leg

nice comparison

The Japanese Navy still uses Hinomaru as their identity flag I guess.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Maritime_Self-Defense_Force
What do you mean? What's so wrong with the flag it's not that offensive it actually looks cool
Well the ship still belongs to Japan's Naval Defense Force. So yeah. There's that flag in every Japanese ships under military designation.
