I was alive & saw ABBA win the Eurovision…man I’m old :/. They were helped out immensely when they released a ‘greatest hits’ album called “ABBA Gold”. The unique thing about them as songwriters is even though they were HUGE Beatles fans (especially as musicians/song writers, which was rare back then) instead of blues & soul, their core musical roots was Nordic, the oom pah pah’s & accordians type of music, which you hear the influences of in their originals, and maybe what turns off many “true” rock fans. The guitar player, Bjorn, was their main lyricist & knew that to break out of their European bubble, they had to sing in English (they entered the contest w/ a Swedish lyric version of Waterloo, but in the finals, sang the English version). They even followed the Beatles’ lead by foregoing live performances eventually and became studio masters which honed the “AbbA sound” They were also pioneers of music videos, along with the Beatles, well before MTV. Videos were their way to promote their music while they stayed in studio where they were happiest. They had a manager in the US. At the time the American way of promoting was to tour constantly. ABBA’s US manager pleaded for them to tour the US, as they’d already conquered Europe & most of the world except the US. Their US manager told ABBA’s manager, “the only way you can get a #1 in the US is to tour, tour, tour. ABBA’s manager countered, YOU get us a #1 THEN we’ll tour the US. That #1 ABBA song was “Dancing Queen”. They ended up touring the US twice.
BEST ⭐ POP ⭐ BAND ⭐ EVER! Never was a mayor success in USA, but they were in the rest of the world, especially in Europe, Australia, Japan and Latin America. As happens to most... ABBA also evolved over the years... Maybe you like ABBA's works more in their last period (before their break in 1982)... Songs like 'The winner takes it all' or 'The visitors'. { The curly girl (Frida❤) was her birthday (79), last November 15th } Take care ✌️ Greetings ❤ from Chile 🇨🇱🤗👍
Pretty much the masters of harmonies, incredibly catchy hooks, and lyrics that many many people identify with. One of my favorite bands, alongside Yes, Floyd, Talking Heads, Bowie, and many more “serious” bands. Their music is way more diverse than you may believe. Try “Eagle,” “Arrival, “Chiquitita,” and “Fernando,” among many many more. Check out their live shows from Australia and London from the late 70s. Brilliant amazing music ❤
Oh! So he already does know some other ABBA songs, and much better ones than 'Waterloo', too! 😀 They were my very first favourite group when I was 7 or 8, in the late 70's, and those 3 songs he mentioned actually are in my Top5 of ABBA songs (the remaining 2 being 'The Name Of The Game' and 'Lay All Your Love On Me') 😀 I also loved Boney M around that time, and I still like both groups a lot today; Well-crafted Pop music! 🤩 Have a great week everyone! 😊👍🎵☀️
ABBA... Rabbit hole... You'll surprised with some of their albums and songs... For me "The Album" and "The Visitors" are their masterpieces, songs like The Name of The Game, Eagle, The Visitors, When All Is Said and Done, Knowing Me Knowing You, The Winner Takes it All... Take a chance om ABBA!!!
Only ABBA I know is the stuff from mama Mia which I guess was all abba music. My son played in the pit for it last year and he said it is one of the hardest shows for musicals in high school. Especially bass. There was some really cool songs but this music is not for me. lol.

...'Lay All Your Love On Me'... 😊
It's not for you, Justin. It's just for EVERYBODY else. Seriously though, there are some songs that you would love in their catalogue.
As poppy as pop since this was the Eurovision entry that set them on the road to fame and many fantastic songs.
Now you gotta do "My Waterloo" by Walter Becker. Whole different vibe.
@@iluvj50 lol
Wow. Not a band that I would have expected as a request from your viewership 🧐
Yes, very brave of Thomas! 😁
