I like that you're trying to strum chords Nirvana-style without sounding any of the songs that they wrote.
Don't want the video taken down.
My brain was caught between thinking it was recognising the melody/song and not.
Those effects sucked tho. Dial it back.
In the first intro riff...
@@brentcraft4340 Nah I need them to play Scott Pilgrim's soundtrack rq
something i dont see enough people talk about with this demo is how great the riffs are. obviously they couldnt play any nirvana but all the riffs still carry that vibe. class work mate
Kurt wanted the Jag Stang to be an affordable guitar for fans of the band. The first ones were reasonably priced but unless there is a serious change in quality, such as pick ups, etc then I don’t see how the new ones can justify the increase. If as he says there is no difference to the original then that is a worry, as the tuning was always a problem on the original. Great looking guitar, absolutely not a favourite to play.
Since I’m a complete mug, I purchased a sonic blue one from the 2021 range. I have an original 2002 Japan one in Fiesta Red, that I purchased new at the time so it’s been with me almost 20 years. I always wanted a blue one but couldn’t get one at the time.
Anyway - I thought with the increased price that the electronics would be better as it’s well known the pickups in the original aren’t great and most people modded them. My 2002 is completely stock so I was able to A-B them and I can confirm they sound identical, which is disappointing tbh. The only real difference cosmetically is the pickup selector switches seem to sit a bit lower on the 2021 version, which is guess stops them getting in the way when you’re strumming. Only other difference as far as I can tell is that the body is now alder instead of basswood. Really don’t think that makes a difference. So with all that being said I can’t understand the price hike, other than it being a cash grab.
Agreed. IIRC my '96 Jag Stang cost about $750 new. I still own it now and it's one of my favorite guitars. However, I'd have to disagree with you on the tuning issues. When I first started playing it 25 years ago, yeah it was constantly going out of tune especially when I even looked at that trem bar. But I recently discovered it was a problem of being set up properly in the first place. The trick was to tighten the springs in the vibrato (moving it to the furthest notch), positioning the bridge in the middle while tuning, and then keeping it in the middle while intonating. Doing that absolutely solved the tuning issues for me - I can now *almost* divebomb and it will return to pitch absolutely perfectly. Most people (including me!) didn't realize that the floating bridge was a feature, not a bug - using the trem bar rocked it back and forth, essentially keeping the strings in the correct position over the saddles. :-)
it was affordable and high quality when it came out... but this reissue is all about them fat stacks of $$$ for fender!!! feed the machine! lol
@@Tremonster261 exactly... id go for the mij version any day if they weren't so damn expensive nowadays... i mean, come on people, get back to work so the prices on guitars come down to sane levels... and all those guitars people got over covid overflow the used market and drive the prices down again! im saving my stimulus checks for that! lol
Get the new Squier Mustang. It's amazing and really cheap! One of my favorite guitars. I used to own a 1966 Mustang, but the new Squier one actually has much better tone and a great neck! American economy is bad and everything is too expensive there. Move to a better country!
Automatic like for Nick Reinhart doing the demo.
if only they weren’t so expensive 😩 such cool guitars
Price is not that bad actually imo, at this price you get a rosewood fretboard that, as far as I know, they come only in their high end instruments i.e $1800+ and to be honest everything is going up nowadays, it’s just ridiculous 🙄…not surprised that instruments go up as well.
$1249 is cheap bro, being a guitarist in general is expensive. We learn to live with it lol
@@dorianford6227 it’s cheap for a luxury guitar now , but a few years ago NO ONE would have bought it, it is still literally a thousand and a bit pounds/ dollars- in terms of money that’s a lot!

the pricing is wrong for those one !
I remember them being less expensive than the mustang in late 90/early 2000
They were around 500 euros made in japan while mustang were 650
1200 is insane, it's the lauching price for the jaguar that has much more meat to it with the great pickups and advanced controls
Agreed. $800-900 would have been a sweet spot for these and also in line (adjusted for inflation) to the original $550-$650 pricing of the 1990s.
@@prospectnyc yes definitely
Well jagstang weren't so popular anyway... It's hard to compete with the iconic live and loud performance
Or most of the TV appearance v_v
Also... They are a bit fugly... Maybe with a bit of tweaking in the shape...
But as is..... Skytang would win any poll anytime
the prices of all those cool Japanese guitars from the 90s were much cheaper than they are right now... sadly.. the internet has Fd us all on that...
@@prospectnyc that kobain thing adds $400 to the sticker...
fn marketing...
I really want one, but damn $1200 is too much for me bro
Thank god they got someone that knows how to play music instead of the same cardboard blues rock riffs
These are such cool guitars. Please make a Squier version. That would be real Kurt Cobain Style. Or maybe you could reintroduce the Cobain Mustang as a Squier version
they won't...nobody would buy these if they did that probably
i mean the cheaper version would sell better than this one...
@@kmatax9237 They would. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana are very hyped. They could do it for the 30th Anniversary of In Utero.
@@bagel7080hyped? thats why it took 20 yrs to reissue?

@Capsized Cloud im referring specifically to the vintage vibe squiers and the top $ models, yes, they are pretty damn good for the money!
@Capsized Cloud not made of money
Lets hope we get a Squier version down the line.

Kurt NEVER hated this guitar. He was still road testing this design on tour when he passed away. How would he hate something that he spent hours working on AND doing so with a big, corporate company? That doesn't make any sense! It's obvious he'd have made final improvements on this thing, on specs and on a proper "pawn-shop"-like price like he'd loved for his fans (remember that Mustangs and the like were really affordable in the mid-80s on 2nd hand shops) but since he's no longer with us, we get to buy the prototype if we want to!
Lol no. He said himself in an interview that he spent almost no time making this. I just took a photo of a Jaguar and mustang, cut them in half, taped them together, and sent it in to fender. His words paraphrased.
@@natbarton755
Even so, Kurt wasn’t a fanatic in terms of gear. I doubt he would’ve customized it any more than this.
He had a jagstang during inutero tour but for some reason always preferred to play with his mustangs.
Sooooo...... 👍
Maybe they didnt set the neck to his liking
I remember reading that he treasured the Ferguson which was the 1st prototype but for some reason the first jagstang manufactured for him didnt scored in his live performance...
Well all this was - unfortunately - compressed in the very short time he had to get used to it
@@natbarton755 he enjoyed playing it
Kurt played this guitar a few times for small portions of live shows, and that's it. He wasn't happy with it and this is a fact. The Fender custom shop did a horrid job designing it -- the body is lopsided and they couldn't even be bothered to make a custom pickguard as the lines of the body and pickguard don't even match. Towards the final month of his life he actually played a Telecaster which Ernie Bailey built for him, which he said was his new favorite guitar. Simply put, this guitar should have never been released.
It’s not just a guitar he played…he created it!
There is footage of him using it at shows
@@connorpickering1800 I don't think he ever got to use it. He was seen using Mustangs. The Jag-Stang was in its design stage when Kurt decided to take a shotgun to his head
@@voodoocustompickups2547 there is literally so many shows from early 94 of a sonic blue jagstang with a white pick guard not a tourtoise shell one like his mustangs there’s clips on him braking a string on his mustang and his guitar tech runs on and gives him the jagstang.
@@connorpickering1800 He only had the prototype and used it "on rare occasions"
Heard he also hated it! Used it a few times and then went back to jags and stangs
i love how at about the 5 minute mark he starts playing heart-shaped box sounding progressions and i like it
Using the name of a dead man to justify the high price
I think kurt would hate to see his name affiliated to a very expensive guitar
Well done fender
I feel like the jag stang was always a cash in thing for fender. The man
himself did not like it. I also feel like it's very questionable this guitar would have even made it to production, if he hadn't died.
@@virginiadeath4507 I’m replying to another one of your comments 😂. Yeah I often wondered myself that if he had lived, would the Jag-Stang have ever made it into production…it’s hard to say. It was made specifically for him and as you say, he wasn’t 100% satisfied with the initial (and only) version. There’s no doubt it’s final form would have been different had Cobain been able to refine it and the version Fender released wouldn’t have been this half finished prototype. Also, back in the early 90s, signature guitars weren’t so much of a thing, it’s only really been in the last 10-15 years that sigs have become more prevalent. Let’s face it - Fender will give a sig model to virtually anyone these days and they’re not the only brand guilty of it. I do know that Cobain was endorsed by Fender (I’m not making that up - there is a video of him talking about it) so because of that they may have stuck a deal at some point for it to go into production, but it’s all ifs buts and maybes. We’ll never know for sure.
@@Tremonster261 just totally messed up replying to you directly on the other one. Ha . Some of the same stuff though.
Yeah, it's not like Cobain WORKED with Fender to produce this guitar, right?
@@joseaqamart1257 Kurt only got his hands on the initial prototype,. He wanted to make quite a few changes, but never got to, so they produced what is essentially an unfinished design, without any final approval from Kurt. $$$...
Loving Nicks variations & tones - in-depth analysis going over the songs he played would be a video to create!
I’ve had my JagStang for 16 years. Love that thing.
I HAD an early 60’s Jag. It was a pain in the ass! Too many problems to list but it was all I could afford in high school. It was a beast. Never again.
Just get a broken strat clone and fix it yourself. It would be way closer to what Kurt actually used. He wouldn’t spend 1,200 on ANY guitar lol.
Except the guitar of LeadBelly :)
He liked cheap stuff but was very comfortable spending money on gear. People always forget he had multiple custom guitars made, recorded with expensive Fender & boogie amps, and owned expensive vintage stuff like a rare Martin & an echoplex.
@@anthonysclafani3963 for real dude was a professional musician after all 😂 people like to skim over that part
@@anthonysclafani3963 you're right, after 1991 he was millionaire and he was so famous that brands gave him whatever he wanted for free haha but the thing is that he created his signature sound before that, making Frankenstein guitars for cheap, and that's what him and fans expected for this guitar
@@enriquepastor3626 I agree the jagstang should be cheaper since that’s what he would’ve wanted, but I can also understand that it’s a signature and Fender’s tryna make money off it. I don’t like it but that’s how business works. Kurt did like cheap stuff but it’s kind of a myth that he only used cheap stuff, he was using plenty of nice stuff for most of his career. He also had Danny Ferrington make him a guitar before the signature Fenders. He did like cheap stuff, but he had no problem spending money on nice gear. A lot of that perception is cuz Kurt was very conscious of trying to retain punk credibility, hence the switch to Albini.
Kurt always had such amazing guitars, and his Fender Jaguar along with the Jagstang are my two dream guitars I’ve wanted since I was little..
Amazing? Alot were shitty cheap pawn shop finds.
@@brentcraft4340 cheap does not always mean shitty
@@psychotropictraveler514 ummm in Kurts case most of the guitars he was using were extremely shitty lmfao he’s said himself most of them were shitty 30$ guitars hed find in pawn shops the day before or day of
@@clips1071 If they were "extremely shitty," like with the frets popping out of the slots and with the neck bowed out of shape, he'd never have been able to play them, let alone would he have bought them. He also was playing in the Pre-eBay era, when prices were different and people didn't have a centralized idea of what things could go for. The Univox Hi Flyers he played (which were department store catalog guitars) don't seem half bad, and the other "shitty" guitars you're talking about would have included his Jaguar and Mustang, which easily cost a few thousand in equivalent when they were brand new in the 60s. People just sometimes act weird about selling things cheaply when they haven't used them for over 10 years.
Those chord progressions though ♥️
Thanks for releasing a left-handed version !!
I hope Fender also release a left-handed version of the actual Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster (Made in Mexico). The one available for right-handed, with the reverse headstock and bridge pickup
Kurt Cobain was such a brilliant musician. The music that he created with his Fender Guitars will live on forever.
In some regards I think Jimi is more brilliant. I do respect Cobain his stuff is very interesting I have the Jaguar which compared to different stock Jaguars shows how much more different it is. I like the guitar where it’s my main. These guitars look cool but I’d rather get the Stang and Jag over the Jagstang I heard the Jagstang has several issues. But every guitar has issues.
@@prometheusvenom7189 art isn't supposed to be a competition
@@Janine.Najarian I wasn’t trying to make it a competition. I was stating that Jimi is a brilliant musician. Kurt is a great songwriter but musician he was great for the time that was necessary. Singer some parts in that case I put Layne Staley over Cobain.
@@prometheusvenom7189 I have to agree: Kurt was one of the best singer/songwriters but not what I would call a guitar virtuoso. Jimi is a top ten guitarist of all time in most people’s book. Peace.
@@BenDover-wm7wf Kurt is a great writer I think I’m interested in his gear because there’s some stuff like the Jaguar or mustang where it can go that a stock guitar can’t. I have a les Paul sometimes the Jaguar has more energy I need because of the fact that it still has some levels of distortion when I’m playing clean. The Jaguar is unique because sometimes I forget it was his rendition and believe it’s my own. Like I don’t think of it as an artist series but just another guitar with amazing features and tone.
I had the original run of these guitars back when they first came out in the 90s. The neck was too tiny and wasn't comfortable to play so I ended up selling or trading the thing. I also remember it having some cheap sounding pickups as well.
Theyr'e ugly as hell, and horribly balanced too.
I need a full version of the Intro. Such a beautiful tone!
Nick is the the perfect one to demo this, nice sounds!
Lovely bit of MBV at 3:35
The most Kurt Cobain thing in the world is having a signature made to your specs and hate it so much you're never seen playing it.
Cobain didn’t hate his jagstang, he actually used it quite a bit in 1994.
Yeah there’s this misconception that he hated the guitar, not really sure where that comes from. He road tested the first version during the In Utero tour in late ‘93 and early ‘94 and used it for a few songs at virtually every gig. It’s true to say that there were one or two things that he wanted to change, but that’s not exactly uncommon. Obviously he passed before he had the chance to feedback the refinements he wanted, which is why it’s released in this sort of prototype form. I doubt this would have been the final version has he still been with us. To say he hated it is a bit of a stretch.
Clearly you've never watched any videos or seen any photos of Kurt playing live in '93 and '94.
@@Tremonster261
Thanks for making the point that a lot of people are missing (perhaps they are younger fans of the band). It was still in the prototype phase of production at the time of Kurt’s death.
have one of the originals from 96, good to see it being produced again
Cool guitars, been having fun with mine. Might not have started guitar without kurt.
If It came as a Squier Classic Vibe 90s then it would be a more fitting tribute to Kurt Cobain.
Giving his love for cheap oddball guitars
he never used a squier though
I have two in fiesta red. This model, and an original 1996 model. They'd been my dream guitar for years, and they're the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever had. I'm lucky to have been able to acquire them finally.
Some of the guitar samples sounded like a Kurt Cobain with Daniel Licht collaboration. Sort of mellow, haunting, hypnotic and creepy. Just awesome!!!!

I want this guitar so badly
The price of these has come down to more reasonable levels, I got an ex-display fiesta red one and it is a gorgeous guitar, very well made, the fret board is massive slab of rosewood. The smaller scale and neck are perfect for peeps with smaller hands. My copy weighs only 7 lb 1.5 oz so it's fairly light. I like the giant 70s style head stock, vintage tuners and glossy neck, and the sparkly pick guard. The shape of the body at first seems odd, maybe even ugly, but you'll never get bored of looking at its freakishness lol . Overall it is a quality instrument.
