Nice to see that the ref and the players acknowledged the injured fan. It seems to me that there the right actions were taken and a genuine concern for the injured fan. When you go to the games they tell you to keep your eyes open and pay attention. It’s very very rare that you will get a flying puck coming your way but you want to be watching the play in case the puck leaves the rink.
I recall A few years ago, when Kevin Fiala was still with Nashville…he had a wipeout and went straight and fast into the end board, leg extended. Scary sight…they got him medical attention quickly but since there was only one ambulance at the arena, and that one soon had him in it, they had to wait for another one to arrive before play could resume. It was a playoff game.

At Staples Center in LA, they always put a warning up on the videoboards during pregame and intermissions, asking fans to please be alert at all times. The Public Address Announcer will also warn fans too. Perhaps also a reason why they do not allow fans to enter the seating area while play is going on. I'm sure they do that at other arenas too.
@@volsla2891 yeah you don't have much time to react at that speed. Maybe enough time to put your arms up and protect your face. You'll still injure your arms. I know from experience. I got hit in the stomach with a baseball at Dodger Stadium. I had almost no time to react from that.

Great job by the refs to pause the game til the fan was able to go for more care. McNabb felt so bad, you could see if on his face. The stick taps and applause were great, too! Hopefully the fan is healing well!

I got hit in the head by a puck when I was at an OHL game when I was 12. I blacked out twice, went to hospital and got stitched up. Still have the puck...and a scar.
All the commenters saying you have to pay attention -- it can be extremely difficult to see a puck that high in the air because the background behind it is the stands down at the end. Plus you got people ducking and moving which might block your view until the instant you get hit. I once was looking straight at a puck that got slung too high by a goalie and then lost it until it hit the shoulder of the guy sitting in front of me.
It's pretty cool watching the players and fans applaud the injured fan the same way they all do for an injured player. One more thing that sets hockey apart.
I remember about 20 years ago a girl got hit by a puck at a Jackets game and died, I always remembered that, that's why they put netting up, as a result of that tragedy, always scary when someone gets hit by a puck
Had this happen at an AHL game. Had my head turned away from the play and took a clearing shot at probably 80+ straight to the dome. Instantly KO'd and I woke up in the trainer's room. I still have a dent from the edge because it was a fresh frozen puck and those things are hard AF. Gotta keep your eye on the puck 🤷♂️
In the 90’s, before the netting was a thing, we would go to Sabres games and intentionally sit many rows up behind the goalie & try to catch shot deflections that came up. Two rules: Pay attention, and bring a baseball glove. Great memories.
I go to jrA games I bring my helmet just cause where the door is for the team to go in and out my so called friend keeps the door open when pucks go flying I tell him to close it he just goes 🖕 to me
Yes. I believe two are required at NHL games. If they don't have at least one, they literally cant play because of the risk of not having a fast transport if needed. I believe there was a game canceled a few years back because they weren't able to get an ambulance/paramedics there. I think it was a bad storm, and they had none available.
@@danamariiexo15 It happened a while ago in Florida, the ambo's had to leave the game due to an incident outside the rink so the game was delayed significantly.
This happens so easily. Oilers game in Edmonton…I was sitting in pretty much her seat area and I looked down for a second and bang..the puck left play and hit the empty seat beside me. Whoever didn’t show up to the game will never know they dodged a chest height puck.
First I just want to say I hope that fan was okay and I know this is going to make me sound so horrible but as hockey fans know especially when you're sitting that low in the section you have to pay 100% attention to that game for this exact reason it's imperative
Pay attention! Back in the day, even during warmup, people had to WATCH THE PLAY. Pre-netting, you had to watch during warmups with the number of puck flying into the stands.
1:00 The broadcast should've stayed focused on the fan... that's what the story was in the moment... instead we were treated to a bunch of random closeups of players, refs, and coaches...
Broadcasting did a great of showing what needed to be shown. No one needs to see that because with those type of injuries people can/ have died. Be respectful.
Let’s hope that fan makes a full recovery! On the other hand, The Washington Capitals should pay for any medical bill expenses. Such as the ambulance ride and the hospital emergency room visit. I’m not a lawyer. I’m not sure how the whole medical and legal side of things play out if a fan gets injured by a puck or a baseball?
That 4 year old who got hit in the face with a line drive 2 years ago got serious brain trauma and they induced a coma bc of it. Getting hit direct in the face with a hard object at high velocity is no joke.
I was playing minor hockey once and my teammate cleared the puck on the penalty kill to the highest row at the opposite end the arena and ended up hitting his own mother in the side of the head. Couldn't believe that of all people she was the one that got hit lol
This is many of the reasons why it's NHL regulations that a rig must be on site before the puck drops. The game can't start or resume unless a rig is there. I never knew that till a couple years ago.

You see that and you’re reminded that even the goalies used to play without helmets and would take shots like that on the regular.
when jacques plante decided to wear a helmet, toe blake (coach; no longer playing) called him a pusy and wanted him off the habs. crazy
love that Wes McCauley waited to start the play. such a fantastic guy. hope the fan is ok. Wes is goat
any update on the fan? i’m assuming a nasty head injury and maybe some stitches but would love confirmation that they’re ok
just a broken phone
Middle aged guy ,He's a large gash on his forehead high above his eye. Seems in good spirits but doesnt remember exact moment
This can be incredibly dangerous. I remember a couple cases of people dying before the nets went up. Even at mid ice, a solid clearing shot could do some serious damage. Hope this dude is alright
Brings back memories sitting in row E behind the goal at Cap Centre. There was no netting at the time, puck took off my promotional capitals hat by lawnboy, Some may remember that hat. I turned around to see the guy behind me with no teeth, puck hit him in the mouth. Year later girl dies in Tampa sitting behind the goal, up came the nettings.
That had some heat on it. Looked like the one guy was pretty upset, must have been his girl that got hit
Someone who was a few rows away said it was a guy and he’s apparently fine, though the gash he got from this was apparently deep enough to see bone, pretty unpleasant feeling I imagine.
@@brendan9868 it was a woman.
You really need to put netting all around the rink
That was heartbreaking. Good job refs for pausing the game!! Hoping the fan who got hit is fine now or at least feeling better.
"The fan that was hit with an Ambulance" - that's some Naked Gun type sh*t right there :D I hope the fan is doing ok!
That’s really awful! I feel really bad for that fan! I hope he’ll recover soon!
I’m willing to bet that Ovi with his big heart will do something for that fan and probably Mcnabb too. It was an unfortunate accident.
Where's the medical team? The fans stepped up to help props to them. Hopefully the fan gets to keep that puck.
That happened to a senior at an ohl game I was at puck hit her in the face they were gone half way through the 2nd period paramedics didn't show up till the end of the period
@@iankelly488 so 10 minute response seems about right? Lol and if you have ever been in a large arena you know it takes a while to get around and even finding the right access point is difficult!
@@WaddickLawnCare they were 1 section over but better than jrA where they don't have any
@@iankelly488 I couldn’t imagine the mayhem if arena was on fire or something like that!
@@WaddickLawnCare I was at at game between oakville blades and Burlington cougars where aan oakville player passed out from a open ice hit when he got to tunnel half way through the 3rd still no ambulance after the game
Omg the man who’s crying while watching the other fans rush to the woman’s aid breaks my heart 😭 hopefully she’s okay
It was a man that got hit by the puck. Look up the story it's really interesting.
The second ambulance is a perfect policy. I was hurt at an auto racing event as a child (no memory of it) and there was only one ambulance. They couldn't resume the races until another ambulance arrived after I was taken to the hospital
I remember sitting in the blues at the old Maple Leaf Gardens and a lady got hit in the forehead with a puck she then slumped forward and smashed her mouth on the railing. It was quite traumatic to see for an 8 year old kid. She was stitched up and back at the next game in her seasons seats mind you with a very bruised face.
Toughest athletes out there but also the most caring.
What happened to the protective netting?
it's more behind the nets, that kinda weird angle shot is unusual
During warm-ups at a ECHL game a puck hit the crossbar and flew up over the safety netting and landed right on my hand making my beer explode everywhere on everybody . Wasn't much pain involved because most the momentum was gone but the impact was felt fersure . Hope they're alright
I know he had a bunch of people in his face and a towel up there also but all things considered, it looks like he kept pretty calm! Hey he is a hockey fan shit he might have gotten stitched up and back watching the game by the next period!
It was a woman who got hit.
@@Saskatchetooner was it? Was hard to tell. Either way good on them
This is why hockey is the best sport. Also, that fan is tougher than all of the MLB and NBA combined 😂
Don Cherry took a lot of heat about 20 years ago when he made a comment about a women getting hit in the face with a puck while she was knitting at the game. He said" don't bring your knitting to a hockey game, or you'll take a puck to the face" lol
Classic clip lmao
betcha rose was real happy about that one
@@Outta-hz1ej lmfao
The fan got stitched up, returned for the third and scored two beers and a hot dog. Because even hockey fans are tougher than NBA players.
It's great to see the fans helping eachother too.
Seen too many of those happen sitting in the lower level... one time similar play the puck ends up going over my head but ends up landing on the step next to me( i had an end seat) that was because it hit the person directly behind me in the face... i gave the puck to them as they were on their way to get repairs
I have a friend who got hit by a puck at a Blackhawks game. He ended up having to have surgery on his shoulder over it.
I recall
A few years ago, when Kevin Fiala was still with Nashville…he had a wipeout and went straight and fast into the end board, leg extended. Scary sight…they got him medical attention quickly but since there was only one ambulance at the arena, and that one soon had him in it, they had to wait for another one to arrive before play could resume. It was a playoff game.
When I was a young kid at my older brothers game, my dad left the stands to the concession and told me to be careful of flying pucks, while he was gone the lady right infront of me got smacked in the face with a flying puck.
Teachable moment that
I'm glad that the fan was alright, but I was touched by the players, coaches and referees showed concern of the fan
It’s impressive that a fan could be hit by an ambulance while sitting in there seat.
The ambulance got 5 minutes for high sirens
2:36 hit with a ambulance oof
Growing up in Canada, I was always told to keep an eye on the puck when watching a game, this is why. Hope the fan is okay
Maybe in minors that works but these pucks are going 70-100 mph even if you are watching it’s very hard to react
@@volsla2891 speaking as a minor hockey fan. I can definitely attest to that, Seen quite a few people nailed in the head or shoulder during play. I got hit in the head during warmup one time
At Staples Center in LA, they always put a warning up on the videoboards during pregame and intermissions, asking fans to please be alert at all times. The Public Address Announcer will also warn fans too.
Perhaps also a reason why they do not allow fans to enter the seating area while play is going on. I'm sure they do that at other arenas too.
@@jh.4770 I think all arenas do that. I just don't think people pay attention to the warning
@@volsla2891 yeah you don't have much time to react at that speed. Maybe enough time to put your arms up and protect your face. You'll still injure your arms.
I know from experience. I got hit in the stomach with a baseball at Dodger Stadium. I had almost no time to react from that.
Oh shit a fan got hit by an ambulance!? 2:34
I remember a couple years ago, myself and my girlfriend and her friend were at a Junior A game in London, Ontario. My girlfriend and her friend were constantly talking through the game and I told them they have to pay attention or they might get hit by a puck, they just laughed at me. Halfway through the second period I got up to go get a beer and when I got back, sure enough my girlfriend got hit in the chest, when I was gone. They didn’t speak another word for the rest of the game.
A bad bruise and luckily nothing broken
a little massage to make it feel better
My dad caught a puck with his teeth when he was a teen, knocked the front 6 out of his mouth. He wore a denture the rest of his life. Of course, he was old school, and playing goalie without a mask, so there is that.
Any updates on the fan?
It’s not the real caps experience unless Wilson runs up into the stands and beats the shit out of you.
Great job by the refs to pause the game til the fan was able to go for more care. McNabb felt so bad, you could see if on his face. The stick taps and applause were great, too! Hopefully the fan is healing well!
That happened during my first Buffalo Sabres game against Detroit back when I was a kid. Probably around 1992. Back in the old Aud. It was a old lady few rows below me. She took it in the nose and was knocked out
Caps fan? Is there such a thing?
Terrifying. Is there an update on this fan!?
OH MY GOD SHE ALSO GOT HIT BY AN AMBULANCE!?!?!? 😱😲😱
My prayers for that fan, that's why you always pay attention, hopefully she will be okay, that really gonna hurt
Any update if the fan is okay?
Seeing the father/ husband whatever he was crying hit hard. Hope the fan is ok
It's pretty cool watching the players and fans applaud the injured fan the same way they all do for an injured player. One more thing that sets hockey apart.
Wes is the man. Classy everyone showed concern for the fan. 👍🏼
Big respect that they waited to drop the puck!
I go to jrA games I bring my helmet just cause where the door is for the team to go in and out my so called friend keeps the door open when pucks go flying I tell him to close it he just goes 🖕 to me
Hope he's ok.
I can remember pucks hitting fans at the old Toronto Toros games at Maple leaf Gardens. Brutal.
Wait. Was there more then one ambulance there?
@@rixxan yeah that sounds like the one I was thinking of.
Great All round respect and safety for Everyone by the Ref and Both teams. the ref was thinking about EVERYONE. Wes great job
This happens so easily. Oilers game in Edmonton…I was sitting in pretty much her seat area and I looked down for a second and bang..the puck left play and hit the empty seat beside me. Whoever didn’t show up to the game will never know they dodged a chest height puck.
I remeber that game my friend was supposed to go but fell ill
First I just want to say I hope that fan was okay and I know this is going to make me sound so horrible but as hockey fans know especially when you're sitting that low in the section you have to pay 100% attention to that game for this exact reason it's imperative
Pay attention! Back in the day, even during warmup, people had to WATCH THE PLAY. Pre-netting, you had to watch during warmups with the number of puck flying into the stands.
1:00 The broadcast should've stayed focused on the fan... that's what the story was in the moment... instead we were treated to a bunch of random closeups of players, refs, and coaches...
Privacy for the injured
@@klixtrio7760 But they do put the camera on them at times, so... they can't be that concerned with privacy
He could have just told her he didn't like her instead of shooting a puck at her face... XD
Bruh this comments are brutal asf y’all some weird ass people no wonder people say crazy world crazy people
HOCKEY PLAYERS ...SUCH A CLASSY GROUP OF PEOPLE..HOPE THE FAN IS OK 👌.....WES ...GREAT JOB 👍 👌
Idk if i am blind but i never saw the puck go over the glass, it just looked like it went threw it
This is many of the reasons why it's NHL regulations that a rig must be on site before the puck drops.
The game can't start or resume unless a rig is there.
I never knew that till a couple years ago.
