I think this is a beautiful whisky - outstanding for the price, and yes - very unique. I get this really nice toasted cedar note. At my archery club, we used to re-use the arrowheads from broken wooden arrows. You'd hold the arrowhead in the fire of a little gas burner, and the glue would heat up to a critical point - which made the arrowhead fly off in whatever direction. Underneath, the cedar arrow shaft would be browned by the heat - and the aroma of toasted cedar would fill the air. Such a specific note, i know hahahaha But every time i drink a glass of this it brings me back to those good times.
Your best video yet my friend. Not seen this here in the uk. I can see a difference with the lens. You put of lot of work into this video. Love the music choice too. Nice job.
Getting caught up on your videos ☺ Looking good. As for the "smokey" note... For me, older whiskies really pick up those old oak, barrel notes. That old barrel note reminds me of smoke or peat. When you think about it, peat is decayed vegetation. Wood is also vegetation. It was weird for me to taste whiskies that I know are unpeated, but then get a smokey note. It made me think I was doing something wrong. Then on a Whisk(e)y Vault of Biscuits episode, Daniel said some people do pick up peat/smoke in unpeated whisky! He attributed it to higher proof, I believe. Knowing that, it helped me relax, but it also helped me to go back and question my tastes. A few months ago, I had the experience again...but this time my brain said "old oak"! It was one of those breakthrough moments for me. ☺ Still a long ways to go, but starting to learn the differences in my experiences.
Thank you :) That actually makes perfect sense. And even Rex couldnt believe the Laddie is unpeated if I remember correctly :). Good for you - we all learn on our whisky journey :).
Hah, thank you ! I recently realized that I could use some knowledge from studying digital graphic design instead of just grabbing a phone / camera and record. And I actually had a lot of fun doing that :) And you are welcome, I should be the grateful one here anyway ;) Oh and if you ever try hammerhead let me know if you liked it as much as I did :)
