Penn Badgley needs to be heard by people who thirsts for villains and psychopaths so much, fiction or non-fiction. Most especially for the people who say "they can change them" like no you can't. Then they would say they don't go for looks, they go for personality but the person's personality was literally killing people with no mercy, breaking the inner core of someone, or using them. So even pretty privilege has a racist component to it, meaning race & skin colour play a bigger role in things we don't even imagine. Sadly he’s actually much more careful to say anything nowadays because ironically to this video; woke people are already starting to attack him for mentioning “the difference of man and woman” that he did in an actually very educational podcast with an actual expert. He basically just talks about how both men and women can be equals yet not equals and how the inequality that creates boundaries for each gender can also sort out certain benefits for each gender, yet people just stops at the “inequality” remarks and say he’s a misogynist.

Doesn’t have all to do with it but it is a factor that lets people get away with more things. It’s even proven that white privilege is real and plays a role in how white men even if they’re not attractive are given more benefits and let off things more easily.

The truth is if his character looked like Michael B Jordan then the audience would be fangirling over him in exactly the same way. It's based on what people perceive to be ATTRACTIVE and NOT race! At the end of the day it's a TV show and handsome villains have always been the focus of teenage crushes as well as admiration and that's because we're all well aware that he's a FICTIONAL character! These shows are a huge part of our escapism so please give the audience some credit. It's not like they're adoring an actual serial killer. Joe is a TV character for goodness sake. Penn takes it all so seriously 🙄
he's thiking more in real life when he says the color of his skin because if youve watched any documentary on The night stalker he was a serial killer but had many fans so did Tedd bundy they werent treated how they were so suppose to . I dont think he resents himself he is just very self aware of his privilege and how the 'WHITE MAN" is almost treated like a king over others not the same color or doesnt have that much repercussions for their actions as much of POC or again get a slap on the wrist from society because its predominantly white and its been alot of cases where that has taken place. Completely disagree, I don't think he hates his race and gender. He hates how his race and gender has drastic privileges that other races/gender don't. And white male real life murdererd recieve much less punishment compared to non-white murderers.
It's not actually the "color" of Joe's skin that makes people root and even "forgive" him (Penn's words), it was the charm and even the psychopathy. Penn clearly hasn't ventured outside enough of his American-centric notions and perceptions, which is commendable in itself because sure it is an American dilemma but how would he explain people being attracted to anti-heroes in mangas and animes, Korean drama villains, Italian mafia gangsters to name a few? On the top of my head I could think of Light Yagami. People are attracted to "sinful" and forbidden things. It is totally human.
I've seen DEXTER and HANNIBAL but never heard either Michael C Hall or Mads Mikkelsen talk about anything about "race".
