Good one, I can't wait to see Sonic 3 beat that Disney cash-grab either. My joke has been: Paramount does what Disney don't. Because of how Jeff Fowler and the other people who are working on the Sonic movies are respecting the Sonic videogame source material with the amount of references and fixing the characters who's personalities got messed up in the 2010s like how Knuckles was made soo dumb in those years and that he was brought back to being serious in the Sonic 2 movie. While Disney is very much disrespecting the Lion King source material by making Mufasa be an orphan in this prequel instead of letting him continue to be royal blood which results in it looking like Scar was the true air to the throne, that Mufasa stole it from him and is the real villain when he never was that before! They are making such an annoying and wrong story plot for that movie so I'm not ever going to watch it.
Sorry. Mufasa will do exponentially better box office of Sonic. Globally it's going to be huge. As popular as The Lion King is in the US, it's way more massive outside it.
I really thought this was already release earlier because of the photo of Luigi with the happy meal Mufasa box. It would be hilarious if Dinsey and Mcdonalds used that as a marketing ad "A Killer Movie and Happy Meal"
I go out of my way to avoid anything Disney. As a lifelong, diehard Star Wars fan, I am now 100% indifferent about Star Wars, and that goes for Disney as a whole.
I know Sonic 3 will "overshadow" this movie...! 1. Jim Carrey 2. Keanu Reeves as Shadow 3. The original cast 4. 2 amazing post credit scenes (apparently) 5. SA2 Game Soundtrack 6. Also, yes that was a The Guadian reference and the pun was intended.😊🌀☄🎄

4:11 This is fact. For proof look no further than the Black Cauldron. It would have been a much better movie if one of the execs didn't lock himself in the film room and literally take out parts of the movie to shorten the time to what he wanted.
That man was Jeffrey Katzenberg. Look at DreamWorks now. Compare their last movie to what Disney has been churning out lately. He's learned his lesson, but we're still stuck with the same bowdlerized cut of TBC.
Jenkins is spot on here, he took the money. Agreed to do the film even though he gave his reservations and I am sure he refused to do the press junket interview with the Gay Variety Fluffer. Now if you tell Disney I don't feel comfortable doing a CGI heavy film it's not my style and they go ahead and retain you any way. What would you do? I have 10 Million reasons you would just agree .
That attitude will translate over to the finished product. Audience can instinctively tell when something was created with no enthusiasm towards it, and as a result they won't have any about it either.

Barry Jenkins (never directed a cgi movie) is just as qualified to direct this "live action" Lion King movie as Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (only directed documentaries) is qualified to direct a live action Star Wars movie. People are complaining about the bad cgi - comparing it to better cgi of 10 years ago. Any bets we find out the reason is the cgi studios were forced to hire DEI artists?
It speaks volumes that Jon Favreau backed out of it. Even Robert Stevenson came back to direct *Son of Flubber* and *Herbie Rides Again* after directing the original films.
Its a fair comment. Directing animators is a completely different skillset to directing actors. You are literally manipulating smile-lines and body physics on a computer screen. Jon Favreau had a lot of experience with effects-heavy films before he took on The Lion King so it was an easy transition for him. Favreau probably didn’t even bother to oversee the day-to-day and just focused on voice actors' performances and storyboards. You can't blame a Barry Jenkins for taking the opportunity when it was presented to him, but he probably brought an auteurist approach to it, trying to manage everything, and realised he was way out of his depth. You can blame Disney though for hiring an inexperienced director - thats on them.

I don't even know why he agreed to direct it. As far as I know he's got no background in animated films and none of the other movies he's made is remotely similar to a family CGI IP tentpole like this. If it was the money it still doesn't make sense to me because his name has enough cache that he could have found other opportunities elsewhere.
Disney diversity hires are doomed to failure , barry was offered too much to turn it down as was Charlene obaid channoy...both grossly unqualified... the only diversity hire that worked was the family guy voice actor who replaced mike henry doing Cleveland's voice & that was due to that he proved he could do a perfect imitation on his youtube channel.
