I dont think hes saying that those awful things are better than finding solace in a Katy Perry Song, it sounds more to me like Bo wishes that any grown adult who is capable of reason and thought that tries to find wisdom in one of those songs, should just throw in the towel because lifes hard and theyre clearly hanging on by a thread if being told to "roar" is enough to keep their head above water, there is no single simple solution and if you do feel the urge to harm yourself, dont just listen to a pop song call a hotline call a friend see if your insurance covers therapy, there are dozens of sensible choices but you need to make the effort, and if you cant bring yourself to do it, then seek help that goes beyond just entertaining the idea its like an unhealthy person thinking about exercise and watching those gym motivational videos instead of actually doing the exercise.

also keep in mind that Bo hates those type of shallow songs aswell as the songs that perpetuate that cycle, the whole song and dance where the famous persons Songs be it a love song or otherwise make the person listening feel special and unique, but then you read the magazine that the singer is in and then just feel ugly and horrible so you as the listener then buy that persons brand of moisturizers and skin creams that the famous person endorses, then you buy all their albums and listen to them on repeat in hopes that you will oneday not feel so ugly, its a cycle to prey on peoples insecurities and make a ton of money from them

Awesome Reaction!! I’m so glad you picked up on the subtext out the gate. I’ve seen some reactors have the whole thing go over their heads the second they hear the first “k*** y*******” lol.
There’s actually a really good and insightful intro/outro to this song where Bo specifically talks about the weird parasocial relationships people have with celebrities and how some of those celebrities (like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift) take advantage of those parasocial connections to wring even more money and attention from their audiences.
I think Bo’s awareness of that dynamic and how toxic/potentially sinister it can be is one of the main cruxes of a lot of his music…Art is Dead, Repeat Stuff, Left Brain Right Brain, We Think We Know You, Pandering, Problem Solving, Can’t Handle This (as well as the intro/outro to that one), Don’t Wanna Know, All Eyes on Me, Goodbye, and a couple others that I’m spacing lol.
Those songs all deal with him critiquing parasocial relationships with celebrities in general, acknowledging the role he plays in doing the same, and grappling with the ramifications of that dynamic.
It’s definitely something that’s been on his mind for a long time haha.
Loving the Bo reactions, keep ‘em comin!
    Cheers

Also, if you try to find a solution to clinical depression by listening to songs instead of going to a professional.
Besides, he says at the start of the song, in the middle of the song, and after the song (though cut from this version) that you shouldn't follow the advice in the chorus and that the point is to actually get help rather than trying to be "brave" and "roar" your way back to health.

Growing up in HS we used to tell each other this as a joke all the time. Looking back, I’m pretty horrified that we ever said it. But no one ever took it seriously. Any dumb thing someone did like stub their toe on their locker or say something stupid, their friend would be like “go kill yourself”. And we would literally laugh at it.
Tbf as someone who thought about it a lot as a teen, the joke never felt bad to me, and I used to say it myself. But thinking about how easily we said it to each other just shows how different of a world it was even just 15 years ago. Maybe that’s why I still find this song so hilarious. Cause I understand where it could be offensive, but I also can’t help but find it hilarious.

uhh yeah he kind of explains it in the speech right before that is cut off for the youtube vid. he says
" i don't love my fans. i dont. you dont want that desperate sort of coying thing. from an entertainer. 'my fans omg they still with me through thick and thin;' do not stick with me through thick. if i stop entertaining you throw me to the curb. you wouldnt stick with your mechanic if he stopped fixing your car. i am in the service industry, im just overpaid. ok and i feel a lot of artists, pop artists, especially sort of infringe upon responsibilities that just aren't theirs, in term of their audience. maintaining their audience at an emotional level. some of you might be sad i feel for that" cue the youtube vid start.
really it's just a bunch of shocking ways to die and being an entertainment gatekeeper. still a great song tho , if it aint triggering

Not anything wrong with listening to motivational music to improve your mood. I think the point he is trying to make is that listening to music isn't going to change anything long-term, and if you're seriously depressed and all you do is listen to Katy Perry to try to get better then you might as well "unalive" yourself, because it isn't going to fix anything.

Bo is saying that whatever hardship you're facing won't be solved just by listening to a song. It's not that simple. We want our problems to disappear, but it'll probably take some time. So,don't look for easy solutions or an easy way out, like killing yourself.
