How to use Octoprint to drive MPCNC router and 3D Printing

  • In this video I will show my workflow for designing and creating parts. I usually draw something on a pad then take it to Fusion 360 and create a design I can manufacture with either 3D printing or CNC routing. Depending on which method I am going to use I create the necessary output and upload it to Octoprint. I have customized the way Octoprint works depending on which manufacturing mode I am using.

Great video. Other than plugging in the MPCNC Rambo 1.4 to the Pi running octopi, selecting the appropriate serial connection (/dev/ttyUSB??), and terminal commands, are there any other particular settings required to be made in octoprint to make this work? I already use octoprint for 3d printing, love it. already use terminal commands, so just wondering if there are any other selections to be turned on or off in octoprint for MPCNC specifically? -- Thanks

Thanks for the feedback Glenn. I don't think there is anything else you "have" to do. I created a bunch of terminal command buttons just to make set up easier. I am the same as you. I used octoprint for 3d printing already and thought why not? I was originally going to use Linux cnc but soon realized that won't work. The octoprint set up has worked well for me. One thing I strongly recommend, if you haven't done it already, put a physical emergency stop button in. It's saved me more than once.

@@Adventuresincreation Great idea. I'll now need to research how to wire that in. Just figured out the touch plate plugin and I can see how using the terminal commands will help greatly with that. Thanks

@@GlennHoweTeam I have mine wired so it stops the spindle and the board so nothing is spinning or moving once I hit that button.

Ian, nice video! Once I get my backlog of other 'important' projects completed, I'll be working on adding OctoPi to my Network/3D Printing environment!

Bobb it is so easy to do and affordable you could do it in a couple of hours. Pi 3b+ is $40 you can print a case. I designed the one in the video 📹 and printed it.

Do you have any videos of setting this up for the mpcnc, for us that haven’t used this for 3D printing ?
I am looking for a good tutorial to initialize the start up of the pi.
I bought a used pi off a fella and was impressed with being able to move things via an app and have a camera
