This was very helpful. Nice that you showed us the pencil sketch first so we knew where we were going. An explanation of what is a "Part" and what is a "Body" would help. I am sure I do not yet understand.
Had a few issues and some confusion however found it helpful to scroll through the comments as others had the same issues and offered up the fix. All good, on to lesson 3.
This video, as well as your whole series so far, have been extremely helpful for me. By way of a tad of feedback, I somehow got hung up when it became time to put in dimensions, as 1/2 of my sketch tools were blued-out. Turns out I had to click on the red/blue box icon and enable non-driving parameters or some such and then I could again follow your tutorial perfectly. No idea how I did that to myself, but maybe that will help someone else. Again, great series. Thanks.
A very clear and easy to follow tutorial - thanks. For those following along, if your sketch turns red it's because you've created redundant constraints. If you look in the "Tasks" box at "Solver Messages", it will list any redundant constraints - you can either delete them manually or check the option "Auto remove redundants".
I did have some trouble following step by step and ran in to to many constraints. Thank you, got this lesson done, but my constraints where different from the video, and it was fully constrained.

Per Mark below, I like the way you teach as well. I only have one irritation. I'm working on RPi, and 0.18 is running great. I don't want to run 0.19 and didn't want to the first time around? Why are we starting this vid, with downloading FreeCad again as opposed to referring any newb, to the first vid in the series and downloading, etc....? Not complaining, in fact I'm in your debt as you chose to take this work and post it. Just making the observation. Thank you.
Adventures in creation LOL, yes but I’m tired, running 64 bit ARM on RPI and don’t EVEN know how to upgrade considering I loaded the first version with sudo apt get install... Get my point? I’m sure I’ll upgrade at some point but, it’s not as easy as just CLICKING SOMETHING to get it done on this puppy. Am I a masochist for choosing this platform? Yes, yes I am lol... I just want to freecad some stuff and 3d print it. Not sure around endlessly updating libraries and finding out that the version of OS and hardware I have can’t run that yet? :-) All is good, Namaste, carry on. I’m crashing. Lol...
I have it on Ubuntu Linux too. You don't have to use the apt version you can download and install it manually if you prefer. However apt should take care of all the dependencies.

Love it you have a Hue around the pointer. You are extremely good and SUPER fast with excellent videos. Here are some tips, hope it help to get more subscribers. Not all or any might be applicable to your videos at all. Watch your own videos on RUclips and then decide. Sound, Icons, SMALL Pointer and color. Newbies need help and some tutoring. There are a lot of people with eye sight not 100%. So some need a reason to stay on your videos. Some of the following might not be applicable to you. -- Voice is always better than music or silence. About 60 to 90% better. With voice you can explain and relate to your viewers. -- 99% of ALL Pointers are normally TO small and black or white. Causing them hard to follow and disappearing at times. We found a LARGER pointer in RED and if possible a YELLOW hue around it is ideal for bad eye sight . For Windows:- catnip5.itch.io/mouse-highlight For Linux:- Download www.google.com/search?channel=fs&client=ubuntu&q=Tweak+tools. Then if using Ubuntu Open - Settings --> Accessibility and there is more tweaks. Zoom "might" make the pointer jerky on some computers. -- The icon bar icons are usually small, your viewers can not see what you are selecting, minimum size should be at least 24 AND/OR bigger. -- The Constrains when in red are hard to see for people with bad eye sight and mostly unreadable in videos. Change it to black and all will be able to see and read it. We hope some of this is useful to you.
If I had to guess, it's most likely that you had something else selected before you selected the points for symmetry. Try deselecting everything by clicking away from the sketch. Then carefully select the two points and the line and then click symmetry. If that doesn't work, share the file with me and I will take a look at it.
@@Adventuresincreation how do I share the file with you? I bring up your video on my phone then cast to my TV , while creating the actual project from my laptop? Thanks i did delete the first project and file and started from scratch, then it did it again. Ugh Thx
Had the same problem has others. I get to the the symmetry part, select the three points then enter and the whole sketch turns orange?? Very frustrating any solution?
@@Adventuresincreation Thanks for getting back. I opened a new file and placed just a rectangle (only) tried symmetry constraint on both the vertical and the horizontal, the rectangle turns orange and does not constrain symmetrically. If l constrain diagonally selecting the the three points it constrains equally into a square as expected. I guess it could be a bug in the latest version? Frustrating seeing you have no problem in version 0.19. I note many of your viewers having the same problem. I’m going to attempt your electrical box next, hope there are not symmetrical constraints in that one?
@@brianwaites4572 I just did exactly that, it works fine. - I think you may be over constraining somehow. If you just draw a simple rectangle and constrain symmetrically it will work. Take a look at the panel on the left where it tells you how many degrees of freedom you have, this will help you, if it's over constraining it will tell you that.
@@Adventuresincreation Thank you, I did exactly what you did by placing a simple rectangle and it still turned everything orange! The DOF turned red and increased. I’m still baffled.
Using 0.21.2. Following the constraints step to the letter. However, this version of FreeCAD doesn't have the same behavior in constraints as what you are showing. Clicking 2 points and applying a constraint yields no results. Clicking 2 points and selecting vertical, to make the 2 lines equal, also yields nothing. FreeCAD just sits there. No warning, no messages; nothing.
Should I delete the body and try again cos I don't know to bypass this problem, or can you make a video on how to solve the problem. Thank you@@Adventuresincreation

I am using version 0.21 now too. These videos were created before it was available. Let me know if you get stuck
I cannot get the part to be symmetrical about the Y axis. If I try it as you demonstrate, all the construction lines turn red.
Do you have auto remove constraints checked?
I have tried copying what you are doing maybe 6 or 8 times. No luck - it turns orange and stops working.
Can you share your file?
I have the same problem, I wonder if it’s a bug in the latest version 0.20.2
very nice... back in April i installed freecad-19 and it works nice, however, freecad-18 now goes to starts-up mode then nothing...Mmmm...??? thanks...:)
The 0.19 installation probably changed some of the core file versions.
@@Adventuresincreation thank you...:)
Anyone know how to show the constraint coordinates? I'm using FreeCAD 0.20 and the Constraints box does not show the options for "Hide Internal Alignment" and "Extended Information". Don't know if it's a preference setting but if it is I haven't been able to find it. TIA to anyone that can help.
Did you ever solve this issue?
@@Adventuresincreation Nope, I figured maybe it was a UI change due to version change and gave up. Looked like it was a handy feature though.
thank you for your videos
You are welcome 😉
How do you get the graph on the screen?
I'd you go into the draft workbench it will show up, you can toggle it from there.
whenever i try and constraint two points my model turns red
Hi Justin, is it saying it's over constrained?
Me too. I can't get past this part of the demo
How come all version fo FreeCAD start with 0. Why is there no version 1.0 inspite of this program being out there for more than 20 years?
That is their versioning system.
Part and Body have the same icon except the different color. Why is that so? What exactly are these things?
A part is a container for multiple bodies.
Thank you.
The latest realeaa is much better
Hi - when making the horizontal lines equal on the little square my sketch turns orange. What am I doing wrong? I want to thank videos the best and easy to follow along with you, I have tried other videos that I was lost in the first 5 minutes with you videos i actually feel that I can learn this at 68 years old. Thank you! Bob
Thanks! That normally means it's over constrained. Do you have the auto delete redundant constraints checked?
@@Adventuresincreation Thanks for replying... Where would I check to see if the auto delete to see if it is checked?
@@bobkarstien1248 In the sketcher task pane.
@@Adventuresincreation II want to thank you for all your help! I am using version 21.2 I retried this lesson 3 times and I am getting different results then you on somethings I did not think there would be that much difference between the versions. Should I see if I can find the version you are using and remove 21.2 version? Thank you!
@@bobkarstien1248 No, don't remove that version, let me know what you are having trouble with and I will make a video to show you if there are differences in 0.21
Love it you have a Hue around the pointer.
For Windows:- catnip5.itch.io/mouse-highlight
For Linux:- Download www.google.com/search?channel=fs&client=ubuntu&q=Tweak+tools.
Thanks for the tips. I appreciate your input.
nice thanks
You are welcome
what to do if it says redundant constraints ?
You can auto remove them by checking the box
@@Adventuresincreation while making points symmetrical is it possible the points where already symmetrical so it says redundant constraints ?☺
It could be many things. Do you have autoremove redundant checked?
At 16:41, trying to create symmetry and select the 2 points then the x axis and symmetry and everything turns red, why?
If I had to guess, it's most likely that you had something else selected before you selected the points for symmetry. Try deselecting everything by clicking away from the sketch. Then carefully select the two points and the line and then click symmetry. If that doesn't work, share the file with me and I will take a look at it.
@@Adventuresincreation how do I share the file with you? I bring up your video on my phone then cast to my TV , while creating the actual project from my laptop? Thanks i did delete the first project and file and started from scratch, then it did it again. Ugh
Thx
@@garyweliver1870 I sent you the file back with the symmetry applied. Well done on creating the sketch.
Not you. I have had the same problem, tried everything. Even with just a rectangle the symmetry just turns everything orange
Did it automatically make a hole for the eye?
If the sketch has a hole in it, then the pad will have a hole in it. Does that answer your question?
@@Adventuresincreation So that square was automatically a hole when you made it because it was on top of the original part right?
@@mrs.dillenbeck5841 yes, if you create a shape inside the face of a sketch it will become a through hole.
@@Adventuresincreation That answers my question. Thank you very much, I appreciate your series on the topic. Take care .
Had the same problem has others. I get to the the symmetry part, select the three points then enter and the whole sketch turns orange?? Very frustrating any solution?
My version is the latest….0.20.2
Can you share your file with me?
All OK, I am not sure what I did, thanks.
Great 👍
Using 0.21.2.
Nevermind. I had another sketch + body open that was causing issues. Closed. New project. Everything works.
That's really odd as it still works in version 0.22
Phew!
It didn't work for mine
While using version 0.21.2@@majicMix911
Should I delete the body and try again cos I don't know to bypass this problem, or can you make a video on how to solve the problem.
Thank you@@Adventuresincreation
I've been having an issue for a while
Sorry to hear that, what is your issue?
How do I get the 'graph paper' effect-? Looked under the VIEW tab...?
If you go into the Draft workbench you can toggle the grid on and off.
@@Adventuresincreation Thank You-! And Thank You so much for producing these videos, You're the only one who knows how to make video's where #1. I can hear and understand what you're saying and without all the hoopla (is that a real word) I need to look that up. Thanx again.
