    Absolutely Brilliant series. Just started and learning a bunch. At the 29:00 minute mark, you mention the table leg top being on the table top plane. It shows on your view. My view just shows solid. How do you set up to get the view at the 29:00 mark? Really enjoying your teaching style.

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 года назад

      Thanks for the feedback. Are you talking about clicking through the model tree or the offset sketch?

    • @mboulton372
      @mboulton372 2 года назад +1

      @@Adventuresincreation The offset sketch. Miy view shows solid, while your view shows the outline of the leg up through the table. With my view I would not know to offset the top of the table leg to the bottom of the table. Maybe it is a tree issue. I'm still fuzzy on the flow of that one, as I also had issues towards the end to get the 2 planes to show up in sketcher to pocket the bottom of the table. Thanks in advance.

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 года назад

      @@mboulton372 the offset is not so much to make it look solid but to ensure the leg is the right length. If you have lines showing up in the model you can select refine in the data panel to hide them.

      @@Adventuresincreation What I'm really looking for is something free for woodworking. I don't really need the 3D modeling, just something that I can turn out plans quick and easy for personal use so 2D would be fine most of the time. Parametric design is nice as well but I almost always build one-offs. I think I'm going to settle in on LibreCAD. The one shortcoming with LibreCAD is I cannot export to a cutlist optimizer but it is significantly faster for the type of drawings I want to do. Anyway I have completed 17 of your lessons and plan on finishing the entire thing. My opinion may change yet. Thanks again!

    is it possible to calculate the number of whole blocks, taking into account the cutting of all non-integer ones? in this particular example, all cuts are 0.5 blocks each. and sometimes 0.2 or 0.7 .. how to automatically calculate, given that from 0.2, 0.3 and 0.7 they give a whole block of 0.7 + 0.3, and 0.2 * 5 gives a whole.. how to optimize and reduce clipping?
    it would also be useful and visual when calculating the molding or when calculating the number of finishing sheets ..

    Great video mate for demonstrating the parametric power of FreeCAD. I clicked the video for what I thought would go over assembling, but the spreadsheet dataset was a real treat. When I got to the part of padding the legs (maybe ok for CNC or 3d printing), I realized I will have to search for another video of how to assemble multiple parts - for say, a shelf with legs and platforms. I'm quite sure you cover it somewhere else, but I'm pleased to learn how to use spreadsheet parametrics. A+++ video howto.

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  3 дня назад

      Thanks! The new assembly in the latest dev version works fairly well.

    • @onepercentile
      @onepercentile 3 дня назад

      @@Adventuresincreation I'll give 1.1.0dev a go and see if assembly is simpler to grasp. However, I'm leery to use a dev release to learn on because I'm too green to know if some issue is a bug or my own operator error.
      Anywhoo, I'm building a shelf assembly with independent parts that will be bolted together. I'm excited to use the parametrics you showed in material thickness, widths, heights, and depths for quick overall changes in appearance as material stocks may be limited.
      FreeCAD is fairly powerful and seems worth learning though understanding the UI comes with a curve.
      I'm fairly excited to gleen info from your channel as you're into all the things I should have been. ;)

    Why do you move Dimensions with mouse in constraints like it is nothing? I tried everything I right clicked them to check whether they are locked maybe there is some other layer that I have to switch to. Nothing, they won't budge, whatever they were created at random you will have to zoom in and zoom out without to look at the number or to make this number not overshadow something important

    What if you wanted to add a sketch to an existing face? My object (part? this terminology is god awful) is not symmetrical and it makes no sense to dimension (constrain) my equivalent of your table legs off the arbitrary origin and I want to sketch it off an existing face and constrain its dimensions using the existing edges of that face. This seems literally impossible to do in freecad

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 года назад

      Using faces is a problem at the moment as those face references can change with subsequent edits. See the topological naming issue. Your offsets shouldn't be arbitrary as you are designing the object with dimensions you choose.

    Thanks for that, I followed along, and I've got the principles fixed in my mind now (for how long, I'm not sure!). I found a useful thing to do in the parameter spreadsheet was to use a different text style for my calculated values. I chose underline, (right-click, Properties, Style, Underline) which stands out quite well, and stops me from making circular references while tweaking the table design!

    the video is great. cursor and so on is good. thank you for your effort

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 года назад

      Hi Dirk, that error usually means that one of your transformed pieces does not line up with the rest of the model and would create a second model, that is not allowed in FreeCAD at this time. So, you need to look at how much you are moving the transform and make sure that it lines up with the rest of the model, I hope that makes sense.

    I like your presentation so much. Big question: as a background I am an Architect. Why the table is up side down?
    I do understand your workflow. I wonder if make sense, at the end, to flip it in the right positions. But than I know it is going to make a mess with "datum plan"... can you please explain this?

    Thanks again

    • @Adventuresincreation

    • @JohnSmith_1331
      @JohnSmith_1331 2 года назад

      Makes sense to me, as a person without an architectural background, because in my mind I'm building a table. I'd make the top and attach the legs to it. Trying to stand 4 legs up and balance and attach a top would be a bit trickier.

  • @SomeTechGuy666
    @SomeTechGuy666 3 года назад +1

    If you draw the leg and cutout sketches from the bottom view of the table top rather than the top, it puts the sketch datum on the bottom of the table and you don't have to mess about moving the datum.
