The scrutineers for Manx GP on the Isle of Man used to bollock us if we didn’t curl the end of the lock wire onto itself so they didn’t rip there gloves. Fantastic build, mate and you’ve even got an Enfield Himmy. Top man!
Here is a guy that can dig into the soul of a Harley Davidson and never gets dirty, or has oil and grease soaked cloths. A true professional!!! How would you like to work next to this guy for a week or two? He is an encyclopedia of knowledge that only few in this world have. I’m 58 and been at it awhile. This guy is crazy good!! Cheers!
Hey, you know I'd like working side by side with John, but I'm afraid all my bad habits might rub off on him. 😎 Nice looking Bike, Great Video, Very good assembly. 👍 Ride Safe.
Great resto and video, that is getting to be a fairly rare bike and sought after, they weren't that popular when they were current but always had a liking for the Sturgis models
Nice video. I have a 1982 fxrs for-sale currently just like this… these are great bikes and when put together correctly run great. Mine forsale runs excellent! I really like the Fxr, have several! Beautiful bike!
Bought my first Harley when I turned 19 - a 1981 Candy Red FXWG Wide Glide early November 1982. Good thing it had forward controls, because the rear cylinder exploded due to HD boring out the 74" cylinders to 80" and not leaving enough wall thickness were the base bolt relief cuts were made. Spent all winter in my Ohio basement stripping it to the frame and wiring harness. Engine was at a local speed shop getting a S&S 96" Stroker, solid lifters and Andrews C grind cam. Sent every part and fastener I could to Brown's Plating for over $2000. Put it all back together in late February. Had that bike through my Navy years and sold it in 1998 when I got my Fatboy. Had to wrench on that Shovelhead every weekend...
Nice video My friend Mike and I went for a ride on our Hondas in Jan. of 1982 ,snow on the ground but nice (in the 40's) he had a CB750 and I had a Goldwing. When we got back we had such a good time we swore we would never sell our bikes , then in March we visited a Harley dealer in Madison Wisconsin.Mike bought a FXRS and I bought a New Sportster roadster , goodbye Hondas! By July we had over 10,000 miles Both were great bikes.
I had 1 just about the same as yours same colors same year I sold it to a friend of mine cuz I needed the money to rebuild my 1981 Sturgis. In there day they were top of the line great video i might add!!👍
When I retired last year I wanted an old shovel. I'm an old FLH guy and found a beautiful 71 mostly original. She's almost finished now runs beautiful with the original early Bendix carb throttle wire ! You're very anil like I am but I have to ask why did you miss match the tire's!!🤷 The rear looks like a Avon and you put a Dunlop on the front! Would like to know what motor specs you used?
Man does that bring back memories . I did the same thing about 6 years ago on the same bike but also went through the engine and tranny . nice job ... Only thing I see missing besides the exhaust is the 82 only front fender emblem ...
Great video! I was really looking forward to how you were going to deal with the wet sumping tube routing issue. Did you end up routing it back to the air filter can? I have an 82 FXRS with it being routed out along the back suspension arm and then through a filter. I was really curious what your solution was. Nice Job!
wow you really went through the whole thing, is that still an amf? i have a 1980 flh from new and have not done a thing to it except oil and tires and other incidentals but still puttin'.
Not good to put the pivot axle (swing arm axle) in bone dry. Should have SOME type of lubricant either anti seize or grease. I'd consider removing it and doing so otherwise you'll be beating it out with a long drift (punch)
They are great bikes. I'm in the middle of restoration of my 82 fxrs. Can't wait to see it all done. Great video where did you source most of your parts from?
Thought I'd let you know, if you wanted to put those amber reflectors that came on the side of the fork tubes back on; simular to the red ones on rear fender struts, they still make them. PN 59254-91
Much respect for someone who can totally disassemble a motorcycle and put it back together without having a bunch of leftover parts like I would 👏

Nice Ride and you had her down for 16 years...Wow. Now at 13:19 that looked like my Angie right down to the licking her chops and the collar.
Great dogs and motorcycles!

Nice video. Now let’s see if running down the road.
That's the plan! Thanks for watching-

Hello! I am interested if you can share where I can find a wiring diagram for a 1982 FXR?
They sell these relays at NAPA
Where’s the comm eagle front fender emblem that would be the cherry on top I have an 82 fxb I also have a spare emblem
I had a '82 FXRS in 1982.. Hated it! Was as close to an oversized Sportster as you get.. Squirrelly as hell and ugly.. Hated it
Buen trabajo❤
Gracias!
Are they rare?...it looks kinda tall, for its stance, and high grkhnd clearance, i like it.
The FXRS of the FXR family had taller suspension! The shocks on the bike are not factory. Standard FXR's sat lower.
No badge on the front fender??
Nope - I thought the same thing back in '93
@@twodogmoto6407 strange all the 82s had them mine did, then the badge became a hot item a lot were appropriated aka stolen! I miss my FXR,
It's like a sporty on steroids
Tell the truth you disassembled the bike so when your wife pissed ya off you could have something to rebuild & get away from her 😂🤣
