Clearly your missing the point of the large SUV, it's on a ladder box frame and can tow a trailer of 8,000 lbs. Can a Mercedes Benz tow? Can a Bentley SUV tow? It's luxury plus towing that people buy the Caddy or the GMC Denali for $15,000 less. Americans and Canadians love large camping trailers or caravans that bring your house to the wilderness.
@@autogefuel The Dodge Durango is the only one that can pull more than a Cadillac Escalade and beat it's MPG without a ladder frame. It's also available with a V6 up to the massive 6.4 litre Hemi with 707 HP !
Thats what I dont get. You cant compare the packaging of a body on frame suv to a crossover vehicle. Two different missions. If you want space get an ESV. As for the old sofa seats, it looks as though its been used as a fleet vehicle based on the poor interior cleanliness, a personal use vehicle shouldnt look like that unless you weigh 300 pounds.
Some additional thoughts: - Mixed Escalade V8 consumption was as I said 13 l / 100 km - 18 mpg US - 22 mpg UK - BMW X7 with the V8 was also 13 - 14 l / 100 km with the V8 - However if you reset the consumption meter and do cruise control 100 km/h on the motorway, minimum consumption of the Escalade V8 was 10 l / 100 km - 23 mpg US - 28 mpg UK, which is quite decent for the size of the engine and the car, maybe also due to the COD / Cylinder on Demand Technology - That was also the average mixed consumption with the BMW X7 inline 6-cylinder - The window of the rear hatch can be opened separately - Good noise insulation is also due to the Active Noise Cancellation system which is being used in the Escalade - The rough suspension experience is due to the rigid axle that is being used in the rear, the adaptive Magnetic Ride cannot make up for that - I compared other soft air suspensions to that, because in this segment, usually an air suspension is being used 75 k USD entry price in the US, 100 k EUR entry price in Germany, equipped test vehicle was 117 k (!) - thanks for watching! :)
Don't ever apologize for your job, you are a reviewer and it is your opinion. Living in Canada and GM made this car only in mind of the North American Market (specifically Canada, US & Mexico). On our roads this car is regular sized, sending the car to the rest of the world is an after thought and your video shows how that translates into the European market. In terms of bang for the buck, keep in mind this car can be affordable for its segment in the North American market with so many options and configurations, additionally we like practical luxury over pure luxury due 30-45cm snow that many European SUVs struggle with in our markets. And as for styling, Boxy is very popular here.
Just a heads up Thomas, this vehicle was designed 5 years ago. I think it would have been important to mention the redesigned Escalade coming out this year (It'll finally have independent rear suspension lol). But agreed, unless you're towing trailers constantly, the price point for this older design does not match the recieved product. Good review.
There is a new model coming and they have addressed many of your complaints regarding packaging. They have also redesigned the suspension and now it’s an all independent setup I’d like to see you test it again and see how the new model performs
Can you test the rival Lincoln Navigator? That’s the model that forced them to completely rethink the escalade’s design. Navigator has an independent suspension that is a lot more compact and it allows for much better packaging. Also the interior is a lot nicer. Would love to see your take on it
11:04 No it wont take bumps like a Mercedes or BMW because you are driving a pickup truck dressed as a family SUV, dont forget this car can tow over 8000 pounds! We tow a lot in the States, Europeans don't. I own a 2010 tahoe LTZ with the 5.3V8 and I go fishing almost every weekend. I can take my family of 4 with me on a 3 hour trip to the keys very comfortably while towing my 24 footer Sea Hunt fishing boat that weights roughly 5000 pounds ( with gear and trailer ) not worrying of breaking down in the middle of the road because it's not a German SUV lol. But believe me, suspension gets softer when you put weight on it, that's how it's designed.
As an American, I'm embarrassed by this barge. Terrible build quality and the interior is so poor. Lincoln is taking the crown from Chevy, whoops I mean Cadillac, as far as American luxury. The new Navigator is so much better than this chromed out Tahoe. The size of these vehicles though make me cringe. No one needs something this big
I'm glad this crap isn't sold in the UK. As you said, nobody needs a car this size or with an engine this big. For the money they're charging you could have a beautiful Range Rover.
We’ve had our 2016 ESV for 3.5 yrs, 43k mi, love this truck! It’s a luxury SUV, with the heart and balls of the 4x4 truck it is. 5 adults, one rear-facing car seat, our dog and all of our stuff for a 2200 mi road trip...set the cruise on 80, 20 mpg! What other vehicle does that?
If I'm wrong correct me but in America with those rims and grille (tiny slates I between the normal large slates) those options are only for the platinum version which is the most expensive model range for it. Is that different in Europe?
You are absolutely tight Thomas, american cars are not as good as the German ones. However, the design is pretty attractive. This is also way to expensive to be a real competition.
Thomas, thanks for being honest about this vehicle. This car is another bit of rubbish from General Motors and not competitive with almost everything else on the market, particularly in Europe - another anachronistic dinosaur from the last century!
The Escalade is roomier and has a standard V8. We just drove both of them in Finland as my wife needs a new car, I liked the Escalade more but my wife liked the GLS...
definitely, you can't compare the level of comfort of this car with Benz right !? I've heard that Benz gives you the most pleasurable driving experience
Parsa Irani the level of comfort is great for the Escalade because the Escalade uses a magnetic Suspension not a air suspension like a s class , so the comfort of a Benz is better then the Escalade but that doesn’t mean the Escalade is bad at comfort
yes you buy European brands to stand out, because everyone knows the brands, they are good quality, luxury and expensive cars, but it's not the same with american cars, no one in Europe will pay 100+ thousand euro for Cadillac, it just doesn't worth it, neither the name nor the quality, you can't stand out with Cadillac in Europe lol :)

Rob L. Your very closed minded. This car is in a class of its own Americans are tall and need lots of space and lots of people love camping. You can’t compare it to a pewny German car. Everything foreign is too small you should see the amount of large suvs people drive here.
The Escalade was rated the absolute worst vehicle in the US in reliability. It's overly priced, and has horrific resale value. Why would anyone be interested in it?

I did mention the high towing capacity which stands out. Totally fine for the non-luxury versions of this vehicle. But consider the extra price.

A bigger screen would fit that interior much better. It's such a big vehicle, why such a tiny screen?
Because the model shown in this video is already several years old. The screens from back then were smaller on average.
How did this test the WLTP test??
Good question.
