Hi Susan, thank you again for featuring Value Study app in this video! It's one of the things that gave me the motivation to continue working on the app. If you take a look again now you will see how far it has come from when this video was made :D
I am happy to discover that I find a medium a cross between drawing and painting (sort of?). I am just learning. And I'm grateful you are here. Thanks. I'm looking forward to working with you. I have done a few pictures, but nothing serious when taking drawing classes at the junior college. The proportion reducer? increaser? sort of clueless there, but when I try it maybe it will make more sense. thanks again. God Bless.
I just want to say: thank you so much for making these. Soft pastels are my favourite art medium but I struggle so much with creating actual pretty landscapes. This video really helped me.
Dear dear Susan…. Missing painting with you. All my supplies are packed up for a move and I am experiencing art withdrawls 🤣. Came across this video this morning, grabbed some coffee and thoroughly enjoying it. As always your generosity of sharing your knowledge and talent is so very appreciated. God Bless You!
Hi Susan Happy Diwali to u ❤️, it's actually the biggest festival that Indians celebrate. It symbolises the return of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita back to Ayodhya. It's the festival of Colors, lights and love. I'll send you some photos on the mail. The lesson as always was awesome, I learnt a lot. But these days I couldn't paint due to some college work. It was very hectic to manage surely painting couldn't fit in for sometime in my schedule. With love and regards from India Anish ❤️
@@ameliawojcieszek it's actually one of the most beautiful festivals around the world, search it out. Beautiful painting, I never tried pastel and it's all to new to me. I bought Paul Ruben pastels 36 count, they didn't have the 40 set and paper, but there is not enough greens, I have a lot of yellow and everything is so expensive.
Hi, @sueaberle935. Here is a list in my Amazon Shop of some pastel painting products I recommend for beginner pastel artists. Hope this helps! Happy Painting! www.amazon.com/shop/monetcafewithartistsusanjenkins/list/2NY2AMTL7D050?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_list_d
You are such an excellent communicator. I am just starting to learn how to paint with pastels, and am thrilled to have stumbled upon your channel. What a wealth of information you have provided for us! Thank you so much!
Awwwww..... bless you Desiree for that sweet comment. I remember how hard it was for me to find information when I first started painting with pastels, and therefore that is why I started Monet Cafe'. :)
Thank you for the beginner series! I have never created a "notan" before a product and my work tends to be very busy with TMI. I am very new to pastel painting and I am excited to learn!
Susan this is a wonderful beginners video lesson! Thanks for putting this into video form! SO many great ideas and ease of use for artists of any level!
Hey this is a great course! I can't believe they discontinued that Spruce Blue NuPastel; it seems like it was a beloved color. I even saw Dakota Pastels has a page of substitutions!
Thanks so much for this free 4 part tutorial! Right now, I’m watching the first, then I’ll paint. I’m not very experienced in pastels, but love them. Plus, I got my first Pastelmat paper, so I need this practice!
Susan, 🙋♂️ thank you so much for this tutorial series I’m a beginner in painting 🖼 This video has been helpful & useful 👍 You have explained the concepts with the right order of importance 👌 I took notes 📝 on the same Thanks for sharing 🤝
@@monetcafe oh that's great to know because I'm extremely sensitive to dust and chemicals but your pictures are so gorgeous and your tutorials are so interesting that I wanted to find a way that I could do them too.
@@monetcafe if you ever have time, could you possibly explain the differences between using soft pastels and using oil pastels for those of us with health issues that preclude using soft pastels; the differences in techniques and supplies needed? Thanks either way because I know you may not have the time to explain this, also there may not be an audience for this as most artists don't have sensitivities.
This is exactly what I've been looking for. I can't wait to see the other videos. You are so generous to offer these lessons for free. Thank you.
Yay!! I’m so glad you find it helpful and I’m going to try to upload the remaining videos weekly. Part two should be uploaded next week.

Is it possible to follow along with your tutorials using the oil pastel sticks instead of the soft pastel sticks?
Yes Liz, I have other oil pastel artists who follow my tutorials. Some things may be a little different but most of the basic principles still apply.

Does this apple to oil pastels too?
Many of the same concepts will work with oil pastels.
