I just want to tell you that “big Earth” is the same size as normal earth, and is referred to as pnf 404 (a jab at page not found)
Pikmin were struggling to survive, they species relies on a leader, figure to lead them in battle, which we can theorize the natural version of their captain, would be the mamuta, however, for someway or another, they simply stopped, helping the Pikmin (they literally made the onion landing grounds if you didn’t know)
So what likely happened is that the onion disrupted electronics in the SS dolphin (the golden salamander in 4 actually shows the onion, uses electronic pulses to communicate) causing captain Olimar to plummet to the planet, and the onions plan succeeded. they found a new leader, and it rose their species out of the ash’s, and they started to grow rapidly.
The one final thing that can be said about the onion, is that it absorbs DNA and can make Pikmin types out of it, stated in the wing Pikmin log, an onion absorbed a flying creature, and popped out a wing Pikmin instead of the standard variation (also shown in the bad ending of Pikmin with the olimin). This evidence shows that the onion is not just a biological being, it is mostly mechanical in nature, and does what’s best for the Pikmin species (explaining why there are so many regulations on how many types can be out, and the number of them)
The creatures that live inside the onion are not the problem, they showed genuine care, curiosity, and have been shown to make murals in 3, it’s just the onion is sending electric responses to tell it what to do, the onion IS the enemy.
