As someone who works in dev support for games, you gotta believe me, there is no such thing as too much information on a report. (not just with hackers but with any specific problem/bug you encounter). An empty report or just a sentence will probably do nothing. If you are specific, it takes way less effort from the support's part to confirm what you are saying and then take action.
If moderators need that much information, then devs need to give players better tools to help in reporting. Easiest would be a "tag time 99m59s to report" function during replay. Those time tags are added to the report the player makes on that review. Players can add info to each tag making it clear why it was added.
Personally, seeing how obvious these cheaters are, seems easy enough for the system to ping suspected behavior when it comes to actions in fog of war. More difficult for cheaters just looking at FOW, as normal players moving scouts do that.
Really though, what devs should have been working on is just ways to keep other players and map info that's 10 grids in fog of war away from a player. Map hackers can't see what's not given to the players.
@@NukeMarine There is a simple reason why reporting is made not as simple as a click: people would abuse it to hell. Obviously you could gather a crapton of info automatically but that would enable griefing and false reporting way harder than it already is. I'm just saying, if you want to make a report that will be taken a look at, you need to give anything you can, be that time, proof, player ID's, description, anything.
@@CarKiller92 Yeah, and a "tag timer" does that. Reporting the player during the replay gives the player id of the cheater, the game, the time of the violation (assuming tag is added). The "tag timer" doesn't report it, it adds the info the potential report the player eventually makes watching that replay. They still have to go through the steps.
I also work as a game dev. I would love to ask their team how on earth they thought having a ladder where everyone can just dodge matches was the consensus idea they landed on. It’s so insane that it blows my mind.
@@ChosenPlaysYT didn't they implement some sort of punishment for it? Agree otherwise, if the servers are stable enough to not get random disconnects, leaving should be punished.
Found two obvious hackers yesterday. Followed this process including sending video clips. Response from Microsoft in 12 hours saying confirmed code of conduct violation and appropriate action taken. Seems promising with response time. Will monitor the reported players to see if they are back in a week or two or not.

@@Will-zc8tz 1 week ban. Checked both players after they were reinstated and they were both back at the map hacks. Reported again, banned again. Waiting to see how long the second time

In all games, there are cheaters, it's become an Olympic sport... It's a shame, they're killing online gaming...
That's one of the lesser reasons for why I shifted toward PvE games. The main being toxic environment and too extreme highs and lows. SP or co-op you only play if you enjoy them, you don't force yourself and aren't forced by your opponent/s to play in ways you don't want, due to competitiveness, exploits, balance issues and whatnot.

If you want this to work correctly, only report people that you ARE SERIOUS ABOUT. Don't spam reports, then your report wont mean anything. You will be like the boy who cried wolf.

Rofl Steph_mountain as an example in the video. That is great, probably the most reported hacker in the game who just got temp bans on a few occasions to only return after 2 weeks to instantly hack in his first game again. Would love to never see that twat again.
guy even has fully admitted to cheating on reddit and the like. hopefully it'll finally be dealt with.

Early on in my AoE4 journey I lost a game to a guy and checked the map afterwards to find he had 100 production buildings. That's 15,000 wood in a game that lasted maybe 20 minutes. Unfortunately I never watched the replay.
we need more action on this. they're not being banned. its destroying the game. Last two games I played vs maphackers.

I play with friends every week once since 2021 and one of us keeps getting like 30 sheeps and we always said he had map hack because of that and his incredible luck. Its so crazy seeing this come out now

Seems strange to me that the Devs haven't coded more anti-cheating code in the game app itself. There must be ways to validate the integrity of the app while its running to detect modifications, or to detect frequent clicks in fog-of-war that are interacting with game objects that shouldn't be possible without map-hack.

I legit came to this game because every single game is packed with cheaters. And now after a couple months. I started noticing certain things that was just weird. But being new to the game I just brushed it off. This is just getting tiresome. Where do I got to relax when I work late n get home in the early am? Like touch grass? Hoe it’s still dark outside and everything is closed. I’m about to pick up taxidermy as a new hobby at this point
tbh, it is stupid that relic is asking for recording video from reporter, when they have all the replay files. takes so much effort to record, make a clip, upload. I would do it if I encounter hackers once a month. But given the prevalence of the problem, I might spend equal time playing the game and reporting hackers...
It'll take even more work for them to go through every report and search up the replay, and then wait until they're actually maphacking.
You only have to do it for your reports, they have to go through ALL reports.
what if they make a software like some other games that doesnt allow 3rd party programs to get to aoe4?

To be honest, "zoom hack" shouldn't even be a thing. They could just add that into the game as a QOL/mod. Silly zoom restrictions are frankly one of the few reasons I'm not big on RTS and stick to 4x titles, MOBAs and games with large scale tactical battles. I can't stand watching pro players in RTS shift perspective 30+ times per minute to various positions and units on the map, it's nauseating.
For MOBAs, it's understandable, you (usually) control only one unit, and the minimap sufficiently supplements your need for gathering information of what's going on, but for an RTS, arbitrarily restricting the zoom level just adds unnecessary mechanical complexity in order to achieve higher APM/"skill ceiling".
In a similar vein comes the "loop production" button, like in Age of Mythology, it allows you to set buildings to auto-produce a specific unit. Me and other loop enjoyers loved that change, but there was pushback. Queuing up multiple of the same unit (at least in most RTS games) "reserves" the resources for all units in queue, but since they're not even being produced yet, it provides an advantage for high APM fans to cycle through the buildings and queue just 1-2 units so as to not "lock the resources" and be able to produce from more buildings or do other things with the resources in the meantime. This is artificial complexity, and it wouldn't even be an issue if queuing up units would only lock resources the moment it actually starts producing the unit (like it does in most 4x)
I get that with QOL changes like this, the skill ceiling for the game goes down, but at the same time, when I play a strategy game, I want to feel like I won due to overall strategy & military micro+macro, not because I was able to "play the piano" more vigorously when queuing units or cycling between multiple spots on the map where important things are happening.
So good they are starting this now (a bit late). Main problem I'm seeing in ranked 4v4 is eco cheats that apply ~.9 or 1.1 to different economy intakes to favor one team. Same players frequently have slightly faster build que times. Not all that easy for players to get that spotted.

Not very noticeable having a small eco boost over a large one in the post graphs. And having a small eco boost can snowball. Faster production quicker TC and a bigger army

yeah I'm not so sure that's possible. maphacks work because they're client-sided just like aimbots. eco are part of the core mechanics.

I been plat for since game started , idk what to do to get better . Only played age of empire 2 before when I was like 10 and stoped then started aoe4 23years later .
Is your goal to play the game for enjoyment, or just for the sake of climbing a ladder?
If it's the former, do your best to improve gradually while the game remains enjoyable.
If it's the latter, I'm sorry for you... (former MOBA ladder addict)
Keep in mind that the main purpose of an MMR/ladder system in MP games is to keep the game enjoyable for players of any skill level, for longer, by matchmaking players of similar skill levels to not result in constant, unfair, onesided stomps that'd push players of lower skill levels away from the game. From a player retention point of view, players losing 40-60% of their games is ok, but nobody enjoys losing almost all the time...

I think you're HEAVILY missunderstanding what reports mean. Reports are pointing to direction where there is potential foul play. None of that is determining factor what ever somebody gets banned (it shouldn't, mistakes happen and other shit), but being reported is just means for customer support to investigate if somebody is hacking or not what they use to verify this is human reviewing the game. Even if there is automation it would do exactly same as what you're afraid of. Automation relies purely on human made software to make it "cheaper" to detect, it doesn't make it better or more reliable its just cheaper to do it this way.
That's good to know, aoe4 is the first competitive multiplayer I've invested time into so this is the first time I've had to be concerned with being banned.

@@crazygreip and i think you also HEAVILY underestimating how stupid come companys are blizzard for example ... i got banned for 2 weeks because i farmed bgs on 2 accs at the same time reason was "unfair behaivor" , in eye of the storm on wotlk alot of the time one team would completly dominate the other so the losing team tends to go "afk" alot so it ends quicker. basicly i did what everyone else did got some angry reports from ppl and did get banned for it. btw i even streamed it, do you thing blizzard gave a shit ?
whats even more funny about that, the acc i usually used to deff stuff (my soul link warlock that was "afk defing" most of the time) didnt get banned but the frostmage that i played active the most time didnt get banned also all the bots dodnt get banned too ..
automation is cheap, shitty companys like cheap, its not rocketscience.

What comes to your situations those are not "cheating" related bans. Those are behavior bans which is entirely different concept and relies on the opinion of CS and how many players have reported the player in question. Plus its kind of place where everything flies even when there is no logical argument to be made. I gotten myself banned for my behavior lot of and there is completely legit bans, but also completely ridiculous levels like I got banned from NW because I said "kill all turkeys and butcher them etc" My server had massive Turkish population that thought I was talking about them and got mass reported even tho lot of English speakers told them that I was talking about birds in game, but that didn't matter because amazon is garbage company.

not really cause with zoom hack u can see ur army and ur workers at same time, u can defend easely ur market and see ennemie on ur village and same time do an attack
The RTS genre is generally highly averse to anything that reduces the mechanical complexity or the APM required by previously established successful titles.
Features like adding "loop production" buttons, rally points that can be assigned to units/groups, unrestricted zoom, etc., basically most things that can be considered QOL since both players would have access to them, are looked down upon because they reduce the skill ceiling (which in my opinion is kept artificially high because competitive RTS games must thoroughly test the player's piano skills, it's ingrained in the fiber of this genre)

How do they maphack? What is the technical explanation? A software that hacks thé game and Can connect to the server or something?
Due to the nature of how the game is designed, your game client also "knows" the position of enemy units/buildings etc. obscured by FOW. They're not just known by the game server and gradually revealed to the players. (this is especially true for games with peer to peer type connections, where the server (if any) exists only to "sanity check" and make sure there's no funny business from time to time).
Certain software can allow tampering with either game files or memory to convince your game client to "reveal" that information, however, and this is not something that can be "fixed"/addressed with a patch/game update.
In order to prevent this, the game would have to be completely redesigned to have the game client fully dependent on a game server process that's hosted on their dedicated servers for every individual game, but this would require a much higher level of infrastructure, that frankly isn't sustainable and wouldn't be worth the upkeep in the long run if the game isn't a subscription model, and also it'd make the game (or at least MP) unplayable if they ever decided to "retire" their servers.

Why the fuck should I send my gamertag, timestamp, replay, and a screenshot/video??? They have the replay, if I report a cheater, they must know everything.
I sent a screenshot with fog of war on and off from a hackers perspective and they asked for a recording 😒 wtf for if they have the replay. Might as well pay me

All theee kids worried about false banning on an aRTS GAME literally making my cringe. Try playing pvp shooter games like scum and tarkov and little kids saying your cheating because your good at a game. You guys are complaining about REPORTS where you can clearly see map hacking. This isn’t some 13 year old dying and losing his loot because you shot him from 800 meters away and he didn’t hear anything….
