I got the same model/year in my garage, nice to see someone trying to rebuild one ! looks like you have quite some work before it will hit the road again. To determine if the low compression comes from valves or from the piston ring/cylinder a quick and easy test (that does not require disassembly) is to pour a bit of engine oil in the cylinder (not too much not to hydro-lock the cylinder and risk bending the connecting rod). If the compression is higher with oil, then the piston rings definitely are worn out (and probably the cylinder needs to be machined to the next over-size piston size).. which usually means the motor is good for the garbage... If the compression is same, good chances it's the valves/valve seats. Of course you can always have both issue, and in your case it would not have saved any time as you needed anyway to disassemble the heads and do the valves.
I am excited about the V4! I am trying to acquire new o-rings and gaskets to refresh the engine. You don't happen to know of a cheap source for new throttle intake boots? Apparently Honda stopped making them 🙁
Good stuff dude. I’ve always had an appreciation for the VFR Interceptors since my buddy had a 97, 750cc in high school. Very unique sound and high performance indeed. Very cool bikes.
I just picked up a nicely running 2000 vfr for 1150 euros. Needs some attention but after brakes, tires and good spit and shine it should be a nice daily bike to ride!
Whatever you got going on in your life it’s to make your life better. Just keep doing what you’re doing brother we will all be here for you and supporting you 100%. Love and respect for your channel and your family. Thanks for sharing this was an awesome video. When you were taking the rocks out of the side of the engine I almost spit my coffee out laughing.😅 That thing was a mess. But you have a way of taking junk and making it into something totally bad ass! ARCO-MN OUTLAW CUSTOMS (outlaw edge RUclips channel)
It's probably leaking down as the bores and rings are dry of oil. A couple of drops of engine/fogging oil should always be put into the bores before turning the engine over!
I did a full resto on a 1983 VF and that was fun but this is on another level. Lucky it’s a Honda! Now looking to get an 800 to join the VF, a 20 year evolution. Thanks for posting
The FI light on motorcycles does not mean fuel injection. It’s similar to a check engine light on a car. It actually stands for “Fault Indicator” and u can pull the code to see exactly what’s triggering the light.
I found a vfr on marketplace for 900, runs but does not drive due too a suspected dirty carb. Has been dropped by current and previous owner, broken but usable clutch lever and the right side peg is all buggered up. Rear tire is flat and some light fairing damage. IF ONLY I HAD $900 TO SPEND
this was a really cool video !
Honda never made a better bike. ❤.

@@HooptieDoodle look at some intake boots for the 2014+ VTEC model 800, they may well work for you.

I am hoping to say thing like that about my VFR someday. I've still got a bit of work ahead of me... I hope you enjoy riding yours :)

Thanks for the positive vibes 👍. This will be a good one if I can get it running and locate all the need parts

I’m still not fully committed….lololol….you are more committed than the mice that were making the bike a home.😅

If you need used parts, my local salvage has a few 5th gens.
Really! Where are you, or really, where is this salvage place?
250 for a key? Lol. In Poland I will have it for 10

Get it!
You need HISS key to start it...!
not all have Hiss
Have a vfr500 nightmare to work on
What kinda welder is that behind u at 10:03
@@Rubyranch393 it's a PrimeWeld 225. Which I've had for 4 years and works great for tig. Stainless, aluminum, etc.
Gear driven cams...I'd be amazed if the timing was out!
An oil pan full of rocks is pretty bad. I guess it could have been full of metal chunks and rocks, that would be worse.
It was full of both.
Jeez, $250 for one key? Could you not have bought an entire used lock set with keys for less?
That motor's fucked bro, scrap it & buy a used motor that's not had it's guts spilled all over the road & grit ingress.
