    I have heard that same sound on other Diesel engines and it turned out it had a bad cam shaft. The Crome broke of the face of the lifter and destroyed the cam lobe. It would really interesting to see what happened to it. Keep up the good work J c. Look foreword to seeing more in the future.

  • @mechanicjake648

    I worked at a cummins dealer as a tech for 6 years. could be worn cam or broken bridge across the valves but most of the time a bent push tube or a missing e-foot of the rocker arm was the cause. could even be a botched valve lash adjustment where someone didnt torque the nut on the rocker arm properly and it backed off. most likely the exhaust valve side is where the problem is.

    That happens all the time on our fleet. The lack of overhead maintenance the rocker backs off. That one sounds like the exhaust rocker backed off and most likely bent the intake push rod.

    Please show the tear down, I really enjoy seeing what the problem is and the fix, thanks

  • @tydonreynolds8884
    @tydonreynolds8884 5 лет назад

    I had this issue on some smaller lawn tractor engines and on the teardown showed the exhaust push rod was bent. This prevented the exhaust valve from opening and when the piston came up on exhaust stroke, it wouldn't release the exhaust and that high pressure from the exhaust stroke will suddenly exit through the intake valve as soon as they open. Causing that popping from the intake.

  • @screamindemon811
    @screamindemon811 5 лет назад

    I vote to have a look see and see what the issue is, mind you I am one of those people who always wants to see if a engine can be saved, cause thats money in your pocket if you dont have to get one and if you ever want to see it as long as the fix isnt worth more than the engine would be, then you know someone will buy that... there aint no doubt about it.. When ever I see trucks that are non runners or fleets trucks that havent been used, I always try and go in with a worse case scenario in mind, this way I am not surprised if its has been scavenged upon...
    Nice work on finding your wire issue on the no start, sometimes it is the little things that just need to get traced down to get things working. Look forward to the teardown if you do it.

  • @gungadinn
    @gungadinn 5 лет назад +1

    Tear down time. Almost sounds like a 12 valve with a bad injector.
    The sound coming thru the computer speaker makes it sound like it got a rod knock, but since the medium Cummins makes like 210 horse power, the rods are safe for another day.

    The only thing that stops this type of diesel engine from running is no fuel getting to the cyls. The only thing that needs a electricity to make this diesel run is the shut-down solenoid and of course the starter. You also have an exhaust valve not opening causing that popping to occur in the intake. That's my initial guess.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  5 лет назад

      Not true. this engine is a common rail system with electrically fired injectors that are controlled by the ecm....it takes a whole bunk of wires and sensors to make this one run.
