  • Mark Agnesi takes a tour of the Les Paul Standard 50's Model from Gibsons new "Original Collection."
    The new Les Paul Standard returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played and loved -- shaping sound across generations and genres of music. It pays tribute to Gibson's Golden Era of innovation and brings authenticity back to life.
    The Les Paul Standard 50's has a solid mahogany body with a maple top, a rounded 50's-style mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and trapezoid inlays. It's equipped with an ABR-1, the classic-style Tune-O-Matic bridge, aluminum stop bar tailpiece, vintage deluxe tuners with keystone buttons, and amber top hat knobs. The calibrated Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker 2 (bridge) pickups are loaded with AlNiCo II magnets, audio taper potentiometers and orange drop capacitors.

    Bought this after 18 months of thinking about it. This is without a doubt the best guitar I have ever played. I've heard people criticise this guitar re price etc, but I have to say it's worth every penny. The build quality and sound is the best. If you're thinking of getting one get one.

      Yes its quiet, no issues,..The pickups are PAF type so they are on the lower output side and contribute to making the guitar super quiet.

      @The Fires of Mount Doom No. Ive got a Fender Champions 100 amp that I play through and I've not had any issues at all. I have a Gretsch G24020T and I get feedback with that. The LP's my favourite guitar still and probably the only "thing" that I have that is important to me.

      Exactly! Now newcomers can find their favorite style without having to dig up a fucking $6000 vintage guitar. That's where I'm at with the firebirds right now. Here's one thing I want, and I hope you're listening gibson, is that each of these core guitars has the original style of pickups, or at least something close. The hot wound ceramic firebird pickups just don't do it for me man. They're cool, but they're not what I'm lookin for. If people can take a part old firebird pups and replicate them, so can you guys. So much for QC...... Ordered an upgraded AAA top version from a large online retailer- never had bad luck buying sight unseen before but there's always a first.
    First up whoever scraped the binding obviously has an eyesight issue. Whoever let it pass QC must be related to the scraper.
    Next up there's a high spot on a the 16th fret which makes basic set up impossible as-is
    Finally there was some serious bow in the neck. Like far too unusual for a guitar built in late November and arrived at my house in December. It had to have left the factory with a bow.
    The guitar does sound fantastic. I've got 4 other Les Pauls ('75-'16) and this one has a sound of it's own, but the others had zero QC issues (3 of the 4 were bought brand new).
    Took it to my guitar tech and he'll fix it up- just add another 2-3 bills to your purchase price. I would have returned it for another but I have no faith in Gibson's QC on the next one either. No local retailers have a light weight cherry burst in stock so I'll just pay the extra to my tech to get it up to playability- though I really question why I'm keeping it in the first place at this price point. Pretty sure I won't be adding a 60's version to my collection unless an impeccable version ends up at my local shop so I can check it out in person.
    The talk is great, the reality is a bit different.

    Having a little fun with the old guard here - tastefully done. Return of th 10lb Les Paul! You're going to sell a ton of these. Then a year later - you're going to sell a ton of the light ones to the same old dudes with bad backs like me. No shame in having two.

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 5 лет назад

      The Guitar Geek - correct, they will use mahogany that is not graded for weight, beauty and resonance. Or more correctly, the 8k Custom Shop stuff will get the pickings, and Gibson USA will get the leavings. But you still might get lucky.
      Anyways I agree with your general sentiment. Bring back heavy guitars that at least weren't trying to be 15 new things.

    Are you authorised to play that guitar on youtube? Watch out, Gibson will sue you for playing that guitar! They may want payment for you showing the logo on that guitar, especially since they stole the headstock design and the body shape from guitars that were made well before the les paul! Epic move! You may finally run the Gibson company into the ground this time.

      Guitar design has barely shifted since then on many primary guitars. The PRS core is a design from the 80's and is still as popular as ever with stage bands. How much modern sound is digital anyway? The list goes on. If something ain't broke, don't fck it up. Gibson are just learning that now. Modern models, are something else.
