I have two seagull folk's. One like this one (the first series) and one from the artist series with solid mahogany back, sides and neck.
Both guitars sound AMAZING. The Artist series folk really opened up after a year of playing.
Best buy I've ever made.
Great review thanks. Clear and informative.
Just one correction. This model have a laminated back and side. Go do seagull web site, every coastline series have a laminated back and side. Anyway is a great guitar.
That tune is the Irish traditional "Banish Misfortune."
Very rich sound. Love it.
Been playing Seagull since late 90s.
Great review, loved the banish misfortune tune. I have an artist rosewood seagull (dreadnought ) & just orderd this model . I tried many other brands/ models.... Once you get used to the warm sound of a cedar top, it's hard to play anything else. I also love the neck and tuner placement on the seagull brand.
You didn't mention the dual action truss rod,
I have this model of guitar. Highly recommended :)
@JEDURO:
this is true, but IMO it's much more important to have a solid top than sides. I would even venture to say laminate woods on the back and sides make a minimal effect on the overall sound of the guitar
inexpensive doesn't always translate to cheap
Played one of these today sounds amazing ing comftable neck way above modern day range a bargain
@dykstrark Yes they are wider 1.8. the "standard" width at nut is 1 11/16 for guitars. Seagull makes a slim neck at 1.72. I believe1 11/16 is equal to 1.68. Seagull also make two models in 1.9. One is a 12 string and the other is pepepino's model.
standard guitar 1 11/16 (which I believe is 1.68)
1.75 is becoming popular
1.8 is the usual seagull
1.72 is their slim neck
1.9 is a special artist model
unless hand is small if you like to finger pick go 1.75 or better
Seagull are the best ROI
ERROR WARNING!! Solid Top yes but laminated back and sides.......well that's how this guitar is made these days. Still lovely sounding though.
@Redongulous this is so true. i have multiple Seagull's, as well as numerous high end acoustics (Gibsons, Breedloves, Larrivee's, Martins, etc..) and 9 times out of 10 the under 1k Seagull sounds better than the Big Boys. i like to look at Seagull as the worlds best kept acoustic secret.
Its the headstocks that put me of seagulls. Some of them sound really nice though. But I do like a good looking guitar.
that would probably not be necessary, because they're EXACTLY the same soundin' guitar, except the finish which is better in Coastline.
i dont like the neck but sounds amazing
No way! You're the guy who reviewed the Blade CE!
Ha.
I have a fender sonoran sce that costs 650$ that doesnt even sound as good as this 400 dollar seagull :(
I would like to hear a tune that shows more of the merits of the guitar than that of the player.
I would like to hear more of the guitar played in a manner that shows its merits instead of a tune that shows the merits of the player.
yeah tuber its a wild cherry laminate body.
:(
i know.
