Acoustic guitars come in lots of different shapes and sizes, and if you're a beginner, choosing the right one can be a little daunting. We've made this acoustic guitar buying guide to hopefully point you in the right direction, comparing the different body sizes and explaining the pros and cons of each, with tonal demos to show you how each different style of guitar sounds.
We look at the Dreadnought size (commonly referred to as the "standard" acoustic shape), the larger Jumbo acoustic (made popular by the likes of Elvis Presley & John Lennon), the curvier Folk & Orchestra models, as well as smaller Parlor and Travel size guitars.
Hopefully you'll find this beginner's guide helpful, you can try out a huge selection of acoustic guitars at your nearest Professional Music Technology store...

Meg did a great job presenting. Really clear and her playing focused on showing the differences between the shapes/sizes. She's excellent at these
Cool video- Definitely helped me out in narrowing down which model I want to purchase
Yes! I love the parlour guitar sound!
Very informative, well done Meg, thank you.😊
Thank u very much. This helps demystify things quite a bit.
Great explanations, thanks!
Thank you, very informative
Thanks - I was never sure of sizes and was sometimes confused by all the different names of the guitar size one down from the dreadnought - thinking they were different.
I didn't know the Dreadnought size was relatively new and that the smaller parlor was a much older design.
Thanks for the informative vid
Terrific presentation of range of acoustic guitars for all peoples... Well done Meg !
really good overview!
Thanks for helping me choose the best guitar size for me ♥
Enjoyed the information. Much appreciated.
Great video. Always good to see women imparting guitar expertise. I have played and owned different size guitars…went with 000 concert sizes because I thought that’s what ladies are SUPPOSED to play …I learned on a Yamaha dread as a teenage girl in the 70’s and even though I’m petite under 5’2 I still prefer the sound of the bigger body. I don’t care if people think it looks too big. Just got a new Yamaha FG800J. It’s awesome 😊
000 is my guitar size. Dreadnoughts are too bulky for me. It's a shame we don't have PMT stores in France...Thanks Meg for the review 🎶🎶🎶
Interesting video which finally clears up the old "Is it a 3/4 or a parlor guitar?" argument I've been having with a mate. I lost 5 bucks (mine is a 3/4) but it was worth it! Knowledge is power.
Cool new host, too. I hope you've taken over from Dagen. That guy makes me nervous... (Lower your dosage man!)
Great video
Thank you Meg!
Thank you for clarifying. Still have a question: do they have a one with the fatter neck of a classical (nylon guitar) and a smaller body but for wound strings? TIA
Ottimo video, veramente esauriente. Ben fatto👌
Not seen that before and yes, good job👍
Please tell me, which guitar Is best fender Cd60v3 or Cort ad820,
In which you can play all types, tell which is the best guitar,
Some say better court than Yamaha are 810 and fenders 60v3.
Thank you 😊☺️☺️
Good review, definitely wanted to hear her sing though
Vdo is perfect but Why dont said to the body size and messure and side thickness and full length in acoustic guitar
I didn’t realize parlor vs 3/4 were different, thanks
For the 3/4 i keep hearing the wood more than the strings, is that normal?
What size is the Yamaha C40?
Is the 000 by Martin smaller than a Orchestra size guitar ?
Megs is adorable love watching her she’s great with the guitar 🎸
i had arm/shoulder problems so i was checking my posture....and then i checked my guitar size....could be related
excelente video
Fine video
Thank you, I'm trying to choose a guitar to buy online. I got one but it was so big. I'm sending it back.
It would be really helpful to me to see width or depth of the different guitars.
hm, the best way is to go to a shop and try them out yourself so you can feel them....buying online......is only preferable if you re buying a guitar you tried beforehand, at least in my opninion
Damn good video!
Thank you so much .Very informative 😊 . I was planning to buy Yamaha f310 . But it comes only in dreadnought, so what could be my alternative guitar in parlour or auditorium size also within 200 $ . Can you suggest me pls.?
yamaha fs800
ibanez pcmh12opn
Do you have online guitar lessons?
That jumbo has a powerful bass
I reckon that parlour guitar sounded the best
Good love ❤
Nice video. Your store is kind of far from me in Maryland. I di rather enjoy your tutorial.
Try california
👏🏽👏🏽
So.. I'm 11 years old, but can I play 43 inches dreadnought guitar??
Could be better for you to go smaller if you're a beginner and haven't had experience playing a musical instrument. Upgrade later on when you get more comfortable.
I learned on a dread as a 12 year old girl 😊
Those guitars look unusually bigger on you! Even that dreadnought look liked a jumbo for a second
Hey I am 15 year old which one is best for me
concert
just a suggestion
🙋👍
hem, perhaps also women need a tad smaller size guitar...maybe good to have male and female size guitars?? I imagine they would become more costly but in terms of ergonomics and a long lasting carreer without arm problems it might be worth it?
then there`s always custom made 😁
I always say to myself, "I need an acoustic" but then "nahh acoustic sucks"..🤣
Please will you donate me one guitar as my guitar is break and I am music lover please will you help me
I think she already knows what the best shape of guitar for any guy player. tehehe
