I shared a beer with him in '75, standing up near the bar where they had were playing , Kalispell, Mt. Much younger and thinner then. I had a crush on him.
I went to high school with Randy. We took care of the AV equipment. We would sit in the back of the library. He and Billy Graves would pick and I would sing along. He hook me on the Beatles Maxwell's Silver Hammer. When Randy passed it took a little piece of me. May he rest in peace.
I was in the class of '65 at MHS. Amazing how may people in the entertainment business lived there in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. All the sons and daughters I knew just wanted to be treated like normal kids. That was never a problem with the ones I knew.
Listening to this beautiful version over and over. I heard Randy Scruggs perform his version at the Saenger Theatre in Mobile, Alabama, in the 1970s. I never forgot it.
such a shame there isn't more of Randy's music available online. I really like his and Gary's 72 album which is available on you tube. Great 70s album.
Excellent production, and a wonderful tribute! So sorry to hear about Randy, but it was great to see Jerry tell stories and play a tune. Loved seeing Béla being interviewed extensively too (what a bonus)!
