Thank you for this John. I apologize that this comment is so late. It is extremely helpful to hear this case in depth from a third party. Thank you for your continued support and for helping spread the word about Alissa. You will always have a very special place in my heart. Also, a big thank you to your community of commenters, it means the world to me that so many people care about Alissa. I am confident that we will find the truth someday.
I'm sorry this has happened to your family and I hope you find your sister. Another youtuber you might contact to make a video to reach more people is Cayleigh Elise. She does missing people videos as well. She is very respectful and I'm sure she would love to get your family's story out there to help you.
I subscribe to both Cayleigh and Hallan and yes they rock. Both me and Cayleigh suffer from depression and this week my Prozac has not been helping so I really can empathize with her. People who don't suffer from depression cannot understand how it impacts your life and the last thing I would want to due when its acting up is to do videos on missing persons and Jane Does. Its a depressing subject matter and you do not even want to get out of bed most days.
I hope you find out what happened to her. I cannot imagine having a missing sibling and not knowing their fate. My prayers go out to you. You are an awesome sister to keep her case out there like you do I can tell you love and miss her very much.
Alissa and Sarah are my nieces... Barbara was my sister... What is missing in all that has been released in the information is that my younger sister Lynette, had spoken with Alissa a few days before and they had discussed Alissa coming to spend the summer with her...My sister lives in Ontario California, Alissa had told Lynette that she would think about it and talk with her boyfriend and her dad, this would explain why she would have revealed that she was going to California.
Thank you. If this information has not been shared with the Phoenix Police please let them know any information you may have. Thank you for keeping Alissa in your heart.
Sarah, I have shared this information with them years ago when they first reopened the case. I was in Phoenix a week after Alissa disappeared and went to the school and spoke with the officer there and principle. I also attempted to speak with the Det. who was originally on the case and he refused to see me. Although he was told of the situation when I spoke with him on the phone and I was basically told I he really didn't want to know what I had to say as he had been told I would lie. I am sorry that this has left such a big hole in our family. There is so much you do not know and whenever you wish, I would be happy to tell you the story from your mama's family perspective.
Nathan Ortberg omg itd heart breaking i hope she is out there somewere alive and one day she will return but the stepdad has to do something with this cant belive he is free on 2017
I want to believe she left on her free will that day but for all we know he got that information out of her and was so enraged he harmed her. I'm just saying at this point I would relook at the step-parent. Taking her out of a school early is odd and just something you wouldn't do unless you made it seem like a special occasion. I think she met foul play. Justice for Alissa and all the missing loved ones out there.
Going back over your old videos to see if there’s any I’ve missed. Somehow I missed these. Gosh it’s amazing to be reminded how much you’ve progressed and changed your layout especially over the years. Plus the sound improvements. I’ve found the same with Stephanie and Danelle. Love it. Still love old school John but current John is amazing. 💜
please look into my friend Jason Bogdan. missing since 2011. he left des plaines illinois to be homeless in California after years of living with friends out here including me. his dad (his only parent and I believe only family) kicked him out in high school, that's when he lived with me and other friends for some years. he left because eventually he had no where to stay on a permanent basis and somehow got to california because the weather is better when you're homeless. he always had a phone an stayed on social media constantly. I told him if he could get back here he could stay with me rent free. (I had just bought a home)he said no he liked it out there. his dad since died. after that he left a cryptic message on either Facebook or MySpace about trying to find a tall bridge. that's it. he was reported missing in 2011 by someone in Bakersfield cali. but I don't think they even knew he had a past back here. no one spoke to us (his close friends). we didn't even know about it until a few years after he went missing! and that's because we looked him up and his Charley Project missing information came up. if you want to look into it, we are available to speak to.
zoe vee there ARE NO details. That's why this irritates me. The people he was close to his whole life where he grew up at, only found out long after his disappearance. The police out there never contacted any of us, which may have been helpful. But we'll never know. I mean, did the police even know he had his past here? Who knows
The writing. When I was her age I constantly would play around with my writing style. I actually stopped putting a hook on my y's around 14-ish and also started to write a curved upper case e, and continue to use that style now. Could be a case of that.
On the note- I don't know if it's a "girly" thing to do but I was always changing my writing and definitely when I would practice my name I would take extra care to make it "pretty". I would sometimes dot my Is with hearts, go from the traditional lowercase a that's an o with a line, to the a used in this font -> a. So like you mentioned I think it's very possible while writing her name she wrote slower and as you said "prettier" and therefore a bit different than her normal font. And it is 99% a woman's handwriting so more than likely she wrote it, but as you said under direction, on her own, or at a different date
Was thinking the same thing Kris, good point!...I've written my name many different ways over the years, especially as a teenager. One thing that struck me about the letter more than the difference of writing though was that from my limited knowledge of handwriting, her bubbly upright style indicates a calm, happy person which doesn't exactly match the pissed off, "put that in your pipe and smoke it" nature of the message to her dad and sister. I would think a hissy letter like that, or even one written under duress if she was made to write it, would tend to have the writer using more abrupt strokes but again, I'm no expert.
True! I deliberately changed my writing style over my teenage years, until it matured into the script I use today. It went through a jagged "angry teen" phase, before settling into a flowing longhand. If you were to compare writing samples from me at ages 13, 17, and now, it would be impossible to tell that they were from the same person.
I change my writing all the time too. I am in my 40s now and even today people could look at 5 different legitimate notes from me and think they are forged. I just constantly change it- sometimes I am writing carefully, sometimes quickly, and sometimes, because of pain issues, my handwriting degrades to practical chicken scratching
EDIT: Sorry you make this point right after I finished the comment, sorry boss! Will wait till the end of the video in the future!! The "Alissa Turney" written multiple times writing sample seems more stylized, like it is meant for decoration, whereas the letter she left seems more like a person would normally write (well, a high school student, I know I can barely read my own handwriting these days but it wasn't half bad when I was having to do it every day!) I'm not a handwriting expert though. In real life I don't think I'd question those coming from the same person - reminds me of my two sisters handwriting when they were in school!
after I've been watching your videos for the past couple weeks I have to say man I have a bit of respect for you. I respect what you do and I respect the hard work that you put into what you do. very awesome John! I think you deserve your own show.
I know it's been a year, but I've only subscribed today (glutting out on ALL the vids and they are amazing John) ... with respect to the family, as soon as I heard that not only the stepfather pulled her out of school for not a clear reason and then when Sarah was in the car after the visit to the waterpark, the stepdad asked her to call Alissa, I immediately got goosebumps. I feel he's getting her to confirm some kind of alibi and cover himself. That's how it feels to me. I'm so sorry the family are going through the turmoil of missing someone and for all those in that situation.
First off, amazing work covering such a case with access to so much personal detail and connections. It is so brilliant that someone would approach brainscratch as a way to potentially give the case more coverage and hopefully bring more information to the surface. Secondly, what you mentioned about the letter's handwriting is very interesting and something else that was in it made me wonder for a moment - the line at the start - "When you dropped me off at school today" That seems like a bit of an odd line for someone that is running away to write... How can I put this... it is almost using the dropping off as some kind of proof of 'this letter is genuine because this event happened' and makes her being pulled out of school that day, the meal and the argument 'irrelevant' because she already knew what she was going to do. If you were writing a letter saying you were leaving home, would you really mention the fact she was dropped off like that even though it wouldn't be the last time that you were seen? I mean presumably she had been planning it for longer if she had taken money from her step dad and saved money up, so to say 'this was the moment I decided' seems a little odd. That line just seems like exposition in a tv script rather than something someone would actually write. Especially as according to the dad's story, the drop off was actually before the argument she had with him. Anyway, this is just mindless speculation and there is no way I can tell what her mind may have been going through at the time if she DID write it. One to part 2 :)
+Veggie Gamer Great pick up. Also, I know you do think weird crap when you're a teenager, but to say in the letter also about how her 12/13 year old sister didn't want her around anymore, so that was another excuse to run away, is a bit strange to me. I mean, that's just normal for sister, especially teenage sister, to say crap like this to each other. You're never actually serious when you say it. Whole letter is pretty weird. Could she have been made to write this do you think? I don't know? I need to go watch the other parts to see what John has to say. But just wanted to let you know that I like where you're going with that thought. :-)
Jo Wallace Yeah you are right. On reflection the whole letter seems very odd... as for if she was made to write it, wrote it herself or it was forged, I have literally no idea. Sadly the CCTV footage (which is mentioned I think in part 3?) would have been the answer but it was deleted by the father because 'it had nothing important on'. When something like that gets destroyed by someone, alarm bells start ringing. And thanks! I never like to presume what eventually happened in cases like this but that letter definitely struck me as odd :) After watching part 3, it looks like John agrees with us on that!
+Veggie Gamer Really well thought out VG. I always suspected that there may be some form of coercion in the writing of this letter, and your points really seem to support that. The question is why would Mike get it so wrong? If he forced her to write it that afternoon, was he going to deny the afternoon argument at some point, then back-tracked on that thought (possibly due to witnesses)? It's really got my head in a spin.
GeekenDorx Yeah that is something I have pondered too... I don't know enough about forgery but in my head I see that *(wild speculation alert)* he wrote the letter himself in panic after whatever happened, but then later realised that the school would know that he picked her up and changed his story. I don't like to speculate too much about whether she was murdered, but if so I think it may have been a spare of moment altercation, he would then write the letter in a panic (to make Sarah believe he had nothing to do with it) but then realised the error and just went with it. Anyway, on all of these BrainScratches I always try to avoid 'this is who I think is responsible for what' statements and just scrutinize the evidence that is available, so I really don't want to suggest I think that Mike is lying or indeed a murderer. Just that the letter seems very oddly written.
The intent of the letter is definitely a key mystery in this case. It may have even been written at a previous time she was thinking about running away (weeks or even months before), then possibly placed there to deter suspicion.
UPDATE: August 21, 2020 "Stepfather indicted in cold-case murder of missing woman Alissa Turney" By JAMI GANZ NEW YORK DAILY NEWS The nearly 20-year mystery surrounding the disappearance of an Arizona high schooler has a new development. Michael Roy Turney has been arrested and charged in connection with the 2001 disappearance of his stepdaughter, Alissa Turney, who had just finished her junior year of high school, Phoenix Police announced via Twitter and a news conference Thursday. The elder Turney, who is facing second-degree murder charges in Alissa’s death, was arrested in Mesa, about 19 miles southeast of Phoenix, Thursday afternoon. He previously told authorities that on the day Alissa was last seen, he took her out of school early for lunch before he went home, AZFamily reports. She hasn’t been seen since. Following a 2010 arrest, Michael Turney pleaded guilty to possessing 26 unregistered pipe bombs and served 10 years behind bars. “Him going to jail for that is not justice for Alissa,” detectives said. “They never let setbacks deter them,” Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel said of Phoenix Police. Adel noted that the family “didn’t give up on Alissa.” Alissa’s sister Sarah, who has never stopped seeking answers in the case, took to Twitter Thursday to respond to the arrest. “I’m shaking and I’m crying. We did it you guys. He’s been arrested,” wrote Sarah. “Never give up hope that you can get justice. It took almost 20 years but we did it.”
I can't remember if I posted before, but you should look into the disappearance of Emma Filipoff from Canada. I've done so much research and reading all over RUclips and Facebook and news articles and even a CBC news documentary about it. It's very very intriguing and mysterious.
Wow, this is from my area. I live about ten minutes away from Phoenix, in Mesa. I still need to watch the other two after this video to get the full story to have an opinion, which I will do now.
FYI, I'm no expert here but there's a lot more to handwriting analysis than just how the letters look as styles to change, especially as a teenager. From what I've read, there are consistencies in a person's writing that people don't think about such as where a person starts their letters from and if/where they go back over the same line. Ink blobby thickness indicates your starting point where you first put your pen down. Also, whether she writes a letter from right to left or left to write and it would likely be different for some letters over others. Apparently much of hand writing analysis has to do with comparison of magnified specimens where you'd look at multiple examples of of the same letters and see if she starts her o's on the top, for example, every time and if she always closes them or doesn't or even goes beyond closing them or traces back over part of her starting point. There's also clues into how a person holds their pen as that is something that we all do a bit differently and it leaves different weight marks/ink depth/thickness. Very difficult to forge as 99% of people don't think about these fine details. Maybe I'm premature here because it's only part 1, but I would think it would be fairly easy for the investigators to have the handwriting professionally analyzed (the family could even do so with their own samples a magnifying glass and google) and while they might not know when she wrote it, they would certainly be able to say with some reasonable certainty whether or not she actually wrote it herself.
Okay so I've been watching so many videos on Alissa. What I don't understand is In the letter it talks about being upset in the morning time. However she doesn't mention the lunch. I also heard something about her step dad saying that she was going to break up with her boyfriend. That doesn't make since on its own. But wouldn't she also mention that or he would have gotten his own letter? I mean she was 17 at the time. Thank you for spreading awareness. I'm going to continue to watch more videos.
+Knarsen I noticed that as well. Very tight closed top hoop on the one sample, a bit looser on the letter. I also think the dollar sign looks odd (like something I would have written).
The spelling and grammar are very similar to that of a younger person. 'Droping' instead of 'dropping' as well as the lack of punctuation towards the end, are unusual for someone that age. Also, in high school, junior and senior year you can get exempt from finals in classes where you've maintained a certain avg. She may have had to take only one exam and then could leave. That is common in my state. As well as early release the last week of school. Just a few of my observations during this video. Great coverage, John!
Hola! Qué lastima que no está el vídeo subtitulado para aquellos que no hablamos en inglés; es muy interesante éste caso. Ojalá que se sepa la verdad algún día...
The money she supposedly saved for this trip remained untouched in the bank. Thats a red flag on the contents of this letter. She would also have taken her phone. She could have been forced to write the letter. Which supposedly wasn't an unusual thing in this household.
Why do people always assume that when someone says something like what the dad said that they have psychiatric problems??? These things actually happen.
GeekkenDorx please!!! for the love of god! Give me your brainscratch theme and let me actually remix it properly. Its been brothering me ever since I subbed your channel
+Synbios Modeste Shoot me an email at john@lordanarts.com and I'll send you a copy to rework. I'd love to see what can be done with it, and if it's good I have no problem swapping it out. :-)
Yes, I also experimented with my handwriting during my teen years. I think it's extremely common with all females. From the two samples I'd say that she did write it.
Interesting case. I have a question I'd like to ask if you've considered but don't really want to post it publicly. Is there a way to send you a private email?
+Callea Sherrill You can send private messages by going to my channel page, then click the About section. There should be a link there (if not let me know).
The handwriting is Alissa's . Notice how in both examples the lower case a has a long tail to the right. That would be too much to fake, something subtle and intricate as that
Yeah, but the 's' tipped me off. That's a very hard letter to fake by someone or even to alter if trying to write more nearly or stylized. The s in the letter doesn't have the same bend that it does in her sample. As in the s in the sample curves back up then out to finish the s after dropping down from the top. In the letter, no s curves back up before dropping down.. It goes straight out then down. ( I really wish it was easier to describe that but hopefully you'll notice it now that I've mentioned it). Some people write an s by dropping down the out to finish the s, to contrast further.
About the handwriting though, the one with the name over and over she would probably go slow and work on perfecting it. The other one probably wrote in a rush is she really wrote it. Trying to get out fast. so it would be a little off and messier.
I'm just curious if he ate lunch with her on a regular basis or it was a half day or what? Most high schoolers would want to eat lunch with their friends, not their parents. That bit seemed kinda weird to me.
Hello this case was solved her step dad killed her because she was planning to move out on him & he couldn't let that happen. As study's have shown the most dangerous time for anyone is when the victim leaves there abuser.

That girl never left that house alive. No, and I mean no teenage girl is going to runaway without her phone. Not going to happen. Ever! Two assassins? BS. This dad person sounds guilty as hell.
Got me looking back on old videos on Alissa. Is it known why Mr. Turney only worked a short time for the police dept? Was he fired ? If so, why? If he quit, what reason was given? I know, I will probably find out in other videos as I go...Also, his time in the military. Did something happen to him in the service? Did he see action? Was he medically or mentally released? Head injury? PTSD? Being combative with those in his group? All this would be interesting and helpful to know.
Where was this lunch at? Can a waitress or worker at the place they supposedly went to CONFIRM that father and daughter were actually SEEN there by anybody? I don't think this ever happened.... after picking her up, I think an argument occurred, he killed her and disposed of her body. "Going out to lunch" excuse was necessary to create an alibi to account for unaccounted time.
I Really Do Believe Alisa Turney's Stepfather Was Involved In Her Disappearance He Failed A Lie Detecter Test That's A Red Flag Another Red Flag Michael Says He Agrued With Alisa At Lunch The Day She Disappeared Then Says They Arrived Home He Went Out For A While When He Returns Michael Says She Was Gone I Think He Did Something To Alisa Turney I Hoping Some Justice For Alisa She Didn't Deserve This R.I.P. ALISA TURNEY
About the part about being pulled out of school early! When I was in high school, once you finished your finals you technically didn't have to attend school anymore so long as you didn't have a high number of absences. There was usually a week period afterward where you would go to school with no classes or only a half a day of classes to make up for if you did have a high number of absences. A lot of times the last 2 days didn't count against you so kids would get dismissed early or sometimes not go at all. I remember my junior year I didn't miss much school so I skipped the last two days!
John - don't overdo it, take a breather also and have a life of your own. Problem is that with what you are doing, very admirably, it can be all consuming in many ways!
Hmmm I think she did write the note, and I know I write my name starting in caps when I am angry at who I am writing to so maybe not taking too much on that. If she was angry at her father because he wants to know who she is with and where she is going (because he cares about her) I can see an angry 17yr old running away over this and she did have money. Possibly she is still angry at her sister to so not getting in touch, yep I can see why she would do this.
Just a thought about the letter.... I've only just watched this first bit, so don't know where things are leading.... but, I noted in the letter that the word "dropped" was spelled incorrectly (droped). Perhaps that, and your example of her handwriting of her name and using a different way of writing the first letter of her name (A), could be ways that she purposely used to show that she was being forced to write this...as "tells". Perhaps her sister knows whether she was a stickler for spelling things correctly. It might be part of her trying to let people know that something was wrong, without the dad realizing?? just a thought.
I have always thought that there was a strong possibility that after the dad was given the letter by Alissa that they physically fought and she was accidentally killed during that fight by her dad and her body disposed of. I really hope that's not what happened. I hope she's in California living a happy life.
I agree with you. It looks like she was practicing her name so she was probably trying to make it look neat like that. I was actually surprised to see the example she sent you because she should send you an example of something else like not a practice sheet but something she wrote like another note or a bill or something like that. I think that it's possible she did not write that note but if you disregard that a & the letter Y everything else actually looks correct
I keep thinking that is just a practice sheet with her writing. I would love to get my hands on something else that she wrote that they know for a fact that she wrote.
I keep thinking that is just a practice sheet with her writing. I would love to get my hands on something else that she wrote that they know for a fact that she wrote.
Just my $.02. I am not a handwriting analyst, but I *am* a visual artist with training in, among other things, caligraphy. Deliberately altering your handwriting is a very difficult thing to do, even with professional training. I know - hell, family members have come to me to forge each other's signatures as pranks more than once, and it takes a hell of a lot of practice and skill to get a passable copy! That note and that signature were not written by the same person. I would put money on it. It's fairly easy to do a version of "generic teenage girl" handwriting, but traits of a person's own handwriting will slip through. I'd like to see samples of various suspects' writing, and more samples of Alissa's script to compare that note to.
neuralmute Really? It totally looks like it was written by the same person to me. If you don't look at the obvious things that are easy to change but look at the overall look of the script, it looks exactly the same
The overall look is very similar, but there are a lot of tiny tells in the way that speciffic letters are formed. I'll need to rewatch the video to remember what they are, but I remember quite clearly catching a number of little wee things that were just off, in a way that wouldn't be immediately noticable... Damn intensive visual training and hyperfocus; damn family, expecting me to do their petty forgeries for them... ;)
lol damn my comments still here. i just watched someone else do this case a couple hours ago and you have 3 parts so i know it'll be in depth. rewatch here i come. :)
Maybe it's me ..but it seems very iffy....for one thing she was 17 ...if she had run away of all the stuff she might have left her phone wouldn't have been one of them....did the Police find out why her StepFather took her out of class.....and those hitman stories are hard to swallow
The last day of school at least here is basically nothing, some kids want to be picked up early so I do not find that weird, but some things just don't add up for me. And did I get here that right he refers to himself to her as "Daddy" I find that odd at that age. Even her note if she wrote that it says Dad.
I don't know if my experience is common or not, but my handwriting changed *dramatically* at about the age when I started having to sign for things a lot (16-19) and that could be what you're seeing here.
If she and her dad got into a fight maybe she wrote the letter out of desperation and anger to go to California and that's what set him off to end up killing her
She or whoever wrote the note spelled droped not dropped, hmmm maybe she meant when you groped me before school. Even if she was practicing writing her name as an excercise, she is very precise and very perfect even when practicing. And I do not believe she would spell her name and change up her y's unless she wanted to draw attention to the note. My intuition says this letter is phony and manufactured by the father figure. he could have paid some girl/lady to write it. Was there any fingerprints found on the note? Possibly it was a forced note and she was ordered to write it? What gave me the heebee jeebees was when you spoke of the father describing his last vision of her, hair flying in the wind as she was "huffing" off down the hall. Sounds more like she was running away from him and her hair was blowing back because she was hurrying down the hall trying to get away. My gut screams out that this child was assaulted and killed by step-dad who was sexually abusive and trying to make her his romantic partner.
+Trace-Elementz13 I asked her sister about the fingerprint test.. she didn't know if the police had done that, and had some reservations about asking them. I believe there is some tension between the family and the investigators (even to this day).
The police should understand tension happens but, not to let personal feelings get between them, their investigations, and the people they are working for. I can understand how the public can feel negatively about police. The police are the professionals, just like counselors, doctors, etc... and should not take unkind, difficult attitudes as though it could effect their investigations and prevent them from doing their job fully. Unfortunately, I hear of this sort of thing happening as almost as a "norm."
That letter doesn't seem like it would have been written by her. It seems more like "Dad" wrote it so the cops would assume Alissa had all her ducks in a row prior to running away. Is the misspelling of "droped" something dad thought would appear juvenile? It actually appears intentionally misspelled because how many 17 year old young women can't spell dropped? Most older teens sign their name in cursive too. That big print is more like a forth graders signature. And why would she announce she took his money before having lunch with him? I would be scared he would notice and I would be caught. Why mention the money anyway? I think dad wrote the letter after he killed her. Sorry, but this is the only part I've watched and so my theory is based only on part one.
I don't think it's too hard to accept that a 17 year old could misspell the word dropped. You misspelled the word fourth in your very argument to that effect. Not hating, just saying.
Laura Cain Really? That letter seems like something a pissed off 17 year old would totally write! Pretty sure I wrote a few letters like that back when I was a teenage girl lol. The handwriting totally looked the same (big bubble letters etc) and she might have told her dad about stealing the money cuz she was mad and trying to get back at him. The misspelling of "dropped"? Not weird to me either. I'm not saying she's gone of her own volition *now*, but that letter seems legit.
My very first impression was her stepfather taking her out of school at 11:00 on her last day is super suspicious. The last day of school is usually more of a day to tie up loose ends, socially and scholastically. She made the decision to wake up early to go, so she must have wanted to be there. Also, supposedly having an argument about needing more social time does not imply she would have wanted to leave early. ALSO, picking up someone at 11 for lunch--did they need to drive an hour to get there or were they really eating lunch before noon? And finally, why disrupt the girl's last day of school when you will see her all summer and have plenty of opportunities to take her to lunch? Even if they really did go to lunch, I see that behavior as very controlling. He monopolizes her whole final day with friends. The second thought was him mentioning her hair during the argument was just weird. For one, it sounds like more like a narration in a story to describe her long hair flowing behind her as she stormed off, and for two, describing her body/appearance (particularly her hair) instead of her mood just rings sexual to me. A regular parent in that situation would say "she was upset" and perhaps "she stomped away" but not the way her hair flowed, with her mood kind of an afterthought. Finally, in regards to the stepfather having the sister call her phone: I haven't watched a single crime show in which one presumably innocent person coerces another to call or visit the victim, only to find them gone, and the first person didn't turn out to be involved. It seems harmless, but it never is. ETA also imo the handwriting looks extremely careful if you know what I mean, it's all hesitation and no hurried or natural lines. It's carefully drawn onto the page. If she does have a learning disability and actually writes (and spells) like this, that's fine, but it's unusual for sure.
It looks similar to her penmanship but i'm not a handwriting analyst. I think the dad had a certain amount of time to get the murder and clean up done and the day of water world it was. He didn't give a shit about her and it's obvious by pulling er out of her LAST DAY OF SCHOOL early AND then telling the BS story that he went on and did errands and left her upset alone. Yeah right, that doesn't even sound logical or factual from a parental standpoint to me. I don't know what happened that day but I think he took her out in the promise of a celebratory lunch and then offed her. He obviously is a free walking psychopath. Yuck times infinity. My opinion. My free speech. My right. Don't come for me. Please and Thanks. #ColdCaseAddict Justice for Alissa!
+Gordon Grinas I bounced that idea off of Sarah, and see inconsistencies as well. I've asked her to check with the detectives to see if they've had it analyzed by anyone.
I am confident that we will find the truth someday.
sharing with my friends in Texas and the UK. good luck
Sarah Turney I WILL PRAY AND PRAY FOR YOU AND ALISSA AND FAMILY.I AM SO GLAD THAT JOHN IS LOOKING INTO IT.MY HEART GOES OUT TO YOU GUYS.
+Nathan Ortberg Thanks for sharing this with me.
Patria Ryder he did definitely have a drug problem near the end.
sgt fluffy really hard to find details about his disappearance!
zoe vee there ARE NO details. That's why this irritates me. The people he was close to his whole life where he grew up at, only found out long after his disappearance. The police out there never contacted any of us, which may have been helpful. But we'll never know. I mean, did the police even know he had his past here? Who knows
sgt fluffy wow. if you get any updates please let us know.if be happy to spread the word!!! I'm on the east coast
To the family, I am so sorry.
Hannah Elorie thank you Hannah.
John you are thr best. I love just kickin back, watching your shows. Ive learned about so many cases this way. I like the way your mind works.
This dad is lying, my first empression.
Yes agree...she wrote the letter and he caught her and hurt her maybe worse than he meant to and she died...and he got rid of her...just my guess..
And finally you and everyone else that thought so are being proves correct
You do a great job giving more awareness to these cases.
His attitude towards her says everything ... blaming her , "she wanted to stay out late " and then painting himself as a caring father
First off, amazing work covering such a case with access to so much personal detail and connections. It is so brilliant that someone would approach brainscratch as a way to potentially give the case more coverage and hopefully bring more information to the surface.
Secondly, what you mentioned about the letter's handwriting is very interesting and something else that was in it made me wonder for a moment - the line at the start - "When you dropped me off at school today"
That seems like a bit of an odd line for someone that is running away to write...
It may have even been written at a previous time she was thinking about running away (weeks or even months before), then possibly placed there to deter suspicion.
i appreciate what you do, and i also genuinely hope this case will get more attention
ONCE AGAIN JOHN,EXCELLENT WORK.
UPDATE: August 21, 2020
"Stepfather indicted in cold-case murder of missing woman Alissa Turney"
By JAMI GANZ
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
The nearly 20-year mystery surrounding the disappearance of an Arizona high schooler has a new development.
Adel noted that the family “didn’t give up on Alissa.”
Alissa’s sister Sarah, who has never stopped seeking answers in the case, took to Twitter Thursday to respond to the arrest.
+Erica Bradshaw Thanks Erica, I will look into it and add it to my list of suggested episode ideas. Have a great day!
LordanARTS I would love to see one on her as well.
LordanARTS I just found it I’m sorry I’m a new subscriber and I haven’t seen all of your brain scratches yet. I’ll watch it after this thank you!!
I love your videos. I would like to see you investigate the case of Britannee Drexel who dissapeared from Myrtle Beach several years ago
+jenward2005 I will add it to my list of suggested episodes and check it out. Thank you jenward2005!
I loved this!!! The other day I was reading about Zebb Quinn and I think it would be awesome if you covered it, hugs fom Colombia
+Angelica Del Toro The Quinn case looks interesting. Thanks for sending it my way!
her dad found the note and went to get her early from school to get his money back, or he caught her leaving, read the note and killed her in a fight
you are Amazing. Ive been watching for 3 Days. over 50 of your videos and Counting
Wow, this is from my area. I live about ten minutes away from Phoenix, in Mesa. I still need to watch the other two after this video to get the full story to have an opinion, which I will do now.
Great work keep it up .
+riju saha Thank you!
really enjoying your videos. im obsessed with them. youre doing such a great job. love from the UK
Once again, excellent work! I love your videos! Keep up the good work!
+Misha Nicholas Thank you Misha!
Great job John . I love that you do this for people .
The letter certainly looks to be written by a female. All throughout school I remember the girls would write that way.
I'm addicted to this channel my family said they are sick of hearing his voice & they can't wait till I'm done watching them all!! 😂😂
I'm going to continue to watch more videos.
have another look at the letter "s" they are pretty different. in the "name writing" its mostly closed on top and in the letter its open
But both "a" are very similiar.
+Knarsen I noticed that as well. Very tight closed top hoop on the one sample, a bit looser on the letter. I also think the dollar sign looks odd (like something I would have written).
We need a handwriting expert to investigate all her recent writings with this letter
He did it!!! I also question whether the was any sexual molestation involved.
Great coverage, John!
love the nightmare before Christmas blanket (throw cover). my one pair of pj's are the same design lol.... it was a gift; but I love em
Yep, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you're wrong.
I pick my kids up early every year. Usually because their tests are over.
I LOVE the Boba Fett hat. I've never seen that one before, it looks really awesome! If I wore hats I'd want that one.
Please do a video on Emily Hieber from yuma arizona
GeekkenDorx please!!! for the love of god! Give me your brainscratch theme and let me actually remix it properly. Its been brothering me ever since I subbed your channel
+Synbios Modeste Shoot me an email at john@lordanarts.com and I'll send you a copy to rework. I'd love to see what can be done with it, and if it's good I have no problem swapping it out. :-)
did you ever change it for him
My handwriting has changed multiple times in my life. Sounds like she was rebelling. Even handwriting may have changed to a degree
He apparently had a habit of forcing her to write things so this note doesn't really prove anything
That bit seemed kinda weird to me.
my heart goes out to them.
Her step father wrote the letter. He´s guilty as sin.
She looks like one of my managers.
I Really Do Believe Alisa Turney's Stepfather Was Involved In Her Disappearance He Failed A Lie Detecter Test That's A Red Flag Another Red Flag Michael Says He Agrued With Alisa At Lunch The Day She Disappeared Then Says They Arrived Home He Went Out For A While When He Returns Michael Says She Was Gone I Think He Did Something To Alisa Turney I Hoping
Some Justice For Alisa She Didn't Deserve This R.I.P.
Is this the guy from the ninja turtles who was accused of kidnapping his daughter
I'd like to see an actual writing sample and not just her name. like you pointed out, people write their names differently than normal writing.
She is dead! What child leaves money, in the bank and does not spend it! She wrote it with a 45 to her head. See Charlie’s project
The guy is an absolute lunatic! charleyproject.org/case/alissa-marie-turney
Por favor poner subtitulos en español entiendo poco el inglés gracias
+Eddie Krishna Her sister did theorize with me about that in a similar way. She also thinks it may have been a sign Alissa was in trouble.
I've heard that somewhere before....
she didn't use a bubble to cap her "i" in her practice
I believe there is a good chance she didn't write that but we need a better writing example
Damn intensive visual training and hyperfocus; damn family, expecting me to do their petty forgeries for them... ;)
Ya but how old was she when she was practicing her name?? Thats like the most obvious question to ask
love your hat!
lol damn my comments still here. i just watched someone else do this case a couple hours ago and you have 3 parts so i know it'll be in depth. rewatch here i come. :)
...and he's still wearing the same hat! Yay!
Maybe it's me ..but it seems very iffy....for one thing she was 17 ...if she had run away of all the stuff she might have left her phone wouldn't have been one of them....did the Police find out why her StepFather took her out of class.....and those hitman stories are hard to swallow
Claire Slater Hi Claire, I have not heard any reason for her to have been taken out of school at this point.
The last day of school at least here is basically nothing, some kids want to be picked up early so I do not find that weird, but some things just don't add up for me. And did I get here that right he refers to himself to her as "Daddy" I find that odd at that age. Even her note if she wrote that it says Dad.
John the brother in this episode is wearing a shirt that sounds just like the description of daniel obergs shirt. Just an observation.
Brain scramble
I don't know if my experience is common or not, but my handwriting changed *dramatically* at about the age when I started having to sign for things a lot (16-19) and that could be what you're seeing here.
What's it like being brothers with Ed Helms? Seriously though, keep up the good work.

Watch Part 4 first.

Justice for Alissa!
you are very wrong about the writing those are 2 separate people guaranteed the way you write is like a fingerprint and they are clearly different
+Gordon Grinas I bounced that idea off of Sarah, and see inconsistencies as well. I've asked her to check with the detectives to see if they've had it analyzed by anyone.
Dope cap
Brian, Don't worry about debunking, that is what the evidence does. ^^
That is a females hand writing
NO SE INGLES ;_;
It sure looks like her handwriting , just look on the ‘e’ the straight line to make the e....very distinctive i think
It sounds buyable that she left but got murdered while hitchhiking.
Don't be an idiot.
