my goodness, im so in love with your use of colour n scribbles n just making your art look so fun and playful :'o every single piece is different yet they all belong together. Soo inspiring
Hi Sophie. I discovered your channel some days ago. Specially today I spend almost the whole day at bed struggling with body pain, looking at your videos, remembering what I really love to do and I just wanna thank you 💜 for sharing your love and joy while sketching and creating. I feel hugely inspired and satisfied by looking at your work.
wow your style shines through!! this is such an impressive project/challenge that you took up! as always your use of colours and the ability to mix loose lines/strokes with specific/tighter lines is so inspirational!!
Loved the explanation, the choice of colours, the different angles for the portrait, the idea to insert plants, to play with the hair.. loved loved loved. The same time that each colour and little pieces in the sketching looks very organic and natural, it also looks it was really thought about it. A mix of talent, dedication, lot of practice during the years and a lot of emotion/heart put into each page.
I always think your self portraits are so gorgeous, all the loose scribbly details and free play with colors. I love them all but shoutout to 15:30 where you look like a 60s Bond Girl! It’s the colors and the hair that did it for me!🤩You were 100% a 1960s go-go dancer in a previous life, Sophie👢💃🏽🪩
I’m not normally a person who comments, but I have to tell you how amazing this is! Thank you for sharing!! Inspired, astonished, motivated. All that and more. I need to watch it again and again. Many, many thanks!!
Sophie, I am astounded as always by your talent! Your self portraits brought tears to my eyes. How beautifully you have rendered yourself! Thanks so much for sharing your self portraits and your talent and I look forward to more!
Ive done self portraits over the years but oh my, every day. Such a challenge and i love the color play. I might try this. Awesome for self discovery and skill building. 😉⚘️🖌🎨
I just bought a sketchbook again for the first time in years and want to draw from life once a day this summer - this is such a good way to get life drawing practice without leaving your room, lol. your art is so beautiful, and the way you described it was lovely as well :)
thank you for the bit about the double chin, I still find it really tough to see candid photos of myself but it is just a part of my face like you said, really beautiful work I'm in awe
These are gorgeous! I love how the “scribbles” you do add to the character of the piece and always just make sense. I admire your style so much and bravo for successfully doing all these self portraits 😍
I really think your self portraits are beautiful. `Yeah I can relate not feeling comfortable in myself physically. All I have to say is I have found it easier to accept myself over time. I still have struggles but I make you through. I really hope this project was healing for you and you appreciate the beautiful quirky artist that you are. Keep going and thanks for inspiring me to continue art making. x
I really appreciate you sharing your self portrait journey...i found it fascinating and beautiful.. Thankyou so much.. This would be a huge challenge for me but im also feeling like i would love to delve into the zany creativeness of it and be wild and free I'm also in Melbourne ❤😊
Thank you for making this video and talking about this! Self portraits are really a difficult subject for me for many of the reasons you mentionned but you inspire me to try again!
Thanks for sharing...I've been toying with the thought of doing this as well as I got the exact same advice from an artist as well many years ago. This has convinced me to give it a shot. Thanks so much!!
so, so beautiful! so profound! at some point i had to fight back tears. that's how expressive your art is. this sketchbook is a treasure chest and the experience you described is impressive. thank you for sharing even though you did not mean to for a long time.
You’re so inspiring Sophie! And incredibly talented! I can’t believe how each portrait had so much emotion in it. I’m going to try this myself! And probably will not share with anyone 😊 lots of love ❤️ thanks for sharing!!
So wonderful and each captures your essence. This is a practice I would love to adopt. Maybe weekly. I miss the life drawing opportunities of my art school days. I think I'll look for a group. And online I know too exist. Just wow, Sophie. You are a phenom of sparkly scribbly admirable humanity!!!
Omg this is exactly what I needed! I’ve been really interested in starting self portraits because I’m having really bad body and face dysmorphia and I think it might help! ❤
It’s definitely worth a shot!! I’m still pretty dysmorphic about my face but now I know what I … look like?! Hahah nag, it’s a great journey! Prepare for the ups and downs 🩷
Hi Sophie I have just finished a self portrait, I dont think it’s great but thanks to you I gave it a go😜. Thanks for this video! I’m an artist in Queensland and I love that you are here is Australia as I can relate to so much that you say. I really want to know about printing prints and stickers, I live in a tiny little country town and I have no idea where to go???? Any help would be fantastic. I have too g found your channel but I have been “binge” watching😂
Your self portraits so fucking amazing!! I mean it literally looks like you!!! Whereas when I go to make it, it looks nothing like me 😢❤ I would love if you could make an in depth video on approaching selfportraits creatively❤ take care, thanks!
What a feast! The colour play, the diverse mediums and confident line work are amazing. Will you keep doing it? I have done a few self portraits but I prefer to draw other people who have striking features and I keep a special book for those.
I loved your portraits in this sketchbook! Thanks for sharing. May I ask, how did you choose where to place the different colours in a portrait? Was there a special method, or dare I ask, did you do it fairly randomly? Whatever you did, it worked so well! ❤
Could not stop thinking about this whilst at work, so ordered a new sketchbook on my break. I am thinking Selfportrait Sunday should become a thing in my life.
I hate my lip so much ( i would happily go under 🔪 if I get to sometimes i think) but whole drawing i love them the most and eyes i don't know why also while doing self-portrait i prefer having a mirror in hands and moving that around to get different shapes of my eyes and lips
These are fantastic. I’m starting to do art and I like this idea of learning new techniques through self portraits! Also I would like to share that March 23 looks like a Hogwarts portrait just the profile and shape of your features gives off Harry Potter talking painting vibe😅
lol i do the same with my double chin when doing self portraits, i think a lot of artist change something about themselves, even if its not a conscious decision
I love all of these portraits! I did something similar last year. But I only got to about 170 something self-portraits. And they’re not as interesting as yours.
Ps. I have never left a Sophie post not feeling inspired and uplifted. Your joy is contagious
Absolutely in awe of your color choices!! This is such a beautiful challenge c:

I’m still doing regular self portraits (ones or twice a months generally) it’s a great reset 🌼
I loved your portraits in this sketchbook! Thanks for sharing. May I ask, how did you choose where to place the different colours in a portrait? Was there a special method, or dare I ask, did you do it fairly randomly? Whatever you did, it worked so well! ❤
It’s very intuitive :) I don’t let myself think too much about it
Aside from when I was a child, I don't think I have ever done a self portrait. This now makes me think that maybe I should try.. maybe..... ;)
Could not stop thinking about this whilst at work, so ordered a new sketchbook on my break. I am thinking Selfportrait Sunday should become a thing in my life.
