Someone should do a video about abandoned RUclips sailing channels like this one. They often just disappear without a trace. Not one word of explanation from the owners.
Update: I was in Ft. Lauderdale last week and spoke to the two of them. Both are in great spirits and very game fully employed. He put his coast guard captains license to use by driving an oil tanker all over Bahamas. He has only run into 3 bridge pilings and 8 coral reefs. Think Exxon Valdez. And she dances nights at the DollHouse & teaches sailing during the day.

Can't take the heat, get out of youtube. Many concepts they wanted to do (or demanded they would do) were realistic, but not in the methods they wanted to pursue. Some things were just WAY WAY off target, but they were "it will work", regardless of people that tried it saying "it doesn't work". All they did in the end was say that "it will be different this time". Kind of like certain people's belief that "our version of socialism will work"...no it won't.
Damn, I'm checking in here after a year and the comment section went a little rough ...:) As someone suggested, I've read their blog and if I understand it correctly then their current long term-plan is this : - they are tired of working for tha man (= the patreons who require a weekly video) - they're gonna try to get an independent steady income from renting out airbnb's (they have mysteriously acquired a mysterious property to do that); - they're gonna fund their future (sailboat) travels and life with that income (no transparancy on if they're gonna give up on patreon, but better to keep that option open I guess) - they won't be pressured to deliver a weekly video anymore, so only "quality" videos from then on pee pole, chock full of 'actionable' financial advice and boundary pushing sailing wisdom; - they are still promising that their little boat - which can take them anywhere - will take them everywhere (this remains to be seen imho, every sailing channel promises that they are going to sail "the world" but only few of them do). To be fair : sounds like a good long term plan if you ask me (at least as long as the rental business generates a reliable income) The only annoying thing is that these (selfdescribed) millennials present this plan in a sort of highfaluting way as if they've stumbled on some sort of new "actionable concept to achieve your dreams and defy the norm", while this type of plan (generating an income by renting out a property, or managing a business from afar) is exactly how generations of sailors used to finance their trips before patreon or the internet (and even today), which leaves you wondering why they couldn't think of this in the first place...[old wine in new bags] Also the sudden dissappearing act was a bit rude...hence the frustration in the comments. [And from what I gather they've still only sailed from Florida to the dry Tortugas, so their sailing knowledge is still mostly theoretical (you'd be forgiven for coming away with a different impression)]

My money is on that they just couldn't afford it. Insurance, registration, and provisions was going to wipe them out. That's pretty much the only reason for the fire sale on the boat you just sunk 40K into. Their blog from Oct states that they want to provide actionable information rather than just fluff pieces. Plus she got sick on board on the way back. That will shake up even the most hardened sailor. So a nice "trailerable" boat that would get them back on the hard was the answer.

As a former subscriber, I'm glad I bailed out a while back. Subs and Patreons bought into your dreams of sailing, and directed their contributions towards those dreams, not building up on your rental portfolio. If your goal was financial independence through rental properties, then perhaps instead of starting a sailing YT channel a few years back, you both should have stuck to your 9-5 jobs and paid for it from your own income like the rest of us. Instead, you used the social capital you built up through this sailing channel to buy an expensive boat (certainly more expensive those other "normal" channels churning out those "fluff" videos for us stupid youtube users), which you then turn around and sold for cash to buy property. If that was your mission statement from the beginning, I'm pretty sure most of us didn't get the memo. In any case, good luck with whatever you do next. Planning to come back on YT after you've got your finances in order? Well, good luck with that. Most of us former subscribers will definitely be giving your future channel a pass. You did not see the curvature of the earth from the summit. That is impossible. A jet @ 37.000 ft and more than 230 miles to horizon can BARELY notice the curvature at the best of days.
Brought back so many great memories for me. Used to go to Tokyo on business pretty regularly and got the impulse to climb Fuji after work on a Friday night. Arrived at 9pm got to the summit right at sunrise. Made it back to Tokyo just in time to catch my flight out Saturday night to Korea. That was an exhausting weekend. Did you guys get the little wooden stick with bells and get the brands at each station?

I'm reading some 'frustrated comments' and such as you seemed to have 'disappeared' since this last posting ? I do hope and trust all is OK and well with you and your family, friend's.. etc.. I am taking note that your post here last was in March 2019, the Covid nightmare was not far away from there and I know people were being affected and 'infected' before the media rolled out the reality of it all. As a former subscriber, I'm glad I bailed out a while back. Subs and Patreons bought into your dreams of sailing, and directed their contributions towards those dreams, not building up on your rental portfolio. If your goal was financial independence through rental properties, then perhaps instead of starting a sailing YT channel a few years back, you both should have stuck to your 9-5 jobs and paid for it from your own income like the rest of us. Instead, you used the social capital you built up through this sailing channel to buy an expensive boat (certainly more expensive those other "normal" channels churning out those "fluff" videos for us stupid youtube users), which you then turn around and sold for cash to buy property. If that was your mission statement from the beginning, I'm pretty sure most of us didn't get the memo.
In any case, good luck with whatever you do next. Planning to come back on YT after you've got your finances in order? Well, good luck with that. Most of us former subscribers will definitely be giving your future channel a pass. Enjoy your "freedom" - just remember that it was paid for by subs and patreons that you abandoned.

Brought back so many great memories for me. Used to go to Tokyo on business pretty regularly and got the impulse to climb Fuji after work on a Friday night. Arrived at 9pm got to the summit right at sunrise. Made it back to Tokyo just in time to catch my flight out Saturday night to Korea. That was an exhausting weekend. Did you guys get the little wooden stick with bells and get the brands at each station?
Apparently these two discovered how hard the sailing life style is and bailed. Either that or they sank with all hands.
Just read your blog - "Why we quit youtube and sold the boat." All I can say is I agree. I get it. You don't want your videos, which are hard to make, to be used as entertainment fodder that facilitates people staying trapped in their cages. Much respect. We don't know who they really are, but after watching the amount of work Kelsey put into the new deck on their HR before they sold it, she is not just a pretty face, she is super-hard working. They both seem to have got jobs on the east coast. Don't know if they are close enough to be cohabitating or not. We shall just have to see. If they split, ONE of them should be continuing with the boat since they sunk their combined savings into it.
