rant incoming: it is much more accurate to take as high a framerate video as possible and simply count the number of frames for the very first revolution off the bowler's hand. most phones can do at least 240 fps now which will give you a fairly accurate number. you count the frames, say you get 30. you take 240 fps and multiply it by 60 to get 14,400; this is the maximum rev rate you can measure using integers with 240 fps. divide that number (14,400) by 30, and you get 480 rpm. doing it this way completely eliminates ball and lane dynamics from affecting the results. it looks like your slow mo is 240 fps based on the fact that i counted 25 or 26 frames for your first one-handed shot which puts the rev rate on that one at around 553-576 which seems correct. storm did a video a while back and showed rev rates for various bowlers at storm hq. they had some that were VERY clearly wrong and it was because some of the bowlers in the video were getting their ball to start rolling forward MUCH sooner than others. since they counted every revolution, this meant that their revolution count was artificially inflated. interestingly i pointed this out and they actually acknowledged and defended it. we're talking about someone with a 200 rev rate off their hand getting labeled as like 375 or something ridiculous because of this method. you can manipulate your rev rate with this method and change it by literally hundreds of rpms by simply bowling on no oil, or standing in the dry and rolling it end over end, which makes the 'rev rate' go up because of ball speed and lane friction making the ball spin faster in the direction it's rolling. that's not what we're trying to measure, right? that's stupid. we're trying to measure what the bowler did to the ball, not what the lane did to the ball. and yes, you are very correct in questioning the accuracy of strike track and specto's rev rate measurements. they're VERY bad at measuring rev rate. i am almost positive that they completely disabled whatever method they were using with the cameras to measure rev rate very soon after it first showed up on tv and instead opted to literally just input a rev rate range for each individual bowler and have strike track randomly pick a number from that range for each shot. your example is precisely what i noticed almost immediately; players would very obviously rip on it on one shot, then completely miss it at the bottom in another shot, and the rev rate would be the same or the ripped one would somehow register lower. it made no sense. and you can find videos of people bowling on specto all over youtube where it shows them randomly hitting like 600 rpm when they're not even close to 500.
Another great video! Can’t wait to see how you drill up your Subzero Forge. I’ve drilled four for my customers so far, and they all LOVE that ball. I’m curious to see what pin to pap distance you use!
After a short time at the beginning of my bowling career (if you call a serious classic bowler a career) I found it easier to go thumbless. I got pretty decent with this approach (and this is when bowling centers thought oil was bad for the lanes) but had some severe tendon problems as a result. It's not just cupping the wrist that can cause problems, but also the strain on the two lift fingers you put in the ball. Years after quitting I still have tendon issues.
Is there such a thing as too much rev rate? Great vid man. Keep it up. Will def do this at home. P.s. tell them to give you a referral link so we can support you that way!
Funnily enough, EJ Tackett has a similar thing going on. He also has a lower rev rate 2 handed, than 1 handed. But his is way more noticeable of a drop, since I saw a video from Packy Hanrahan's channel where he was using the 2 handed release.
You have a really good point. It’s a good thing you can calculate your own rev rate by yourself. I don’t think strike track is correct. You might actually have a higher rev rate than EJ.
I’m just starting to get good at bowling, with my league average going up a couple pins to 199 for next week, but my release is causing pain in the base knuckle of my middle finger. So I need to learn how to change my release, and I’ve considered possibly trying to learn how to bowl two handed, but I’m 68 and I think that bowling two handed might be harder on the rest of my body than with one hand. I love having a little bit of a wheel in my game, but I have to learn how to do it without hurting myself. I can’t go back to a boring straight ball.
I'd like to see a side view of your 2 handed and one handed release super imposed. I think you would be hard pressed to see a difference in the actual release and finish position.
Don't worry mikey I bowl way more revs 1 handed than 2. Mainly cuz I look like a off balanced feeble wobble with zero speed and hand 2 handed lol. Good video!
I figured it was higher. My revs are definitely higher with thumb in and my accuracy is better, so I will never jump on the two handed band wagon. Good job, brother...
You're 2 handed game is quite impressive. It would be awesome if you could master both. Then, when it's time to get in hook it you switch to one-handed 😂
@@whyamihere2366 yeah its measured off the hand instead of 50ft like everyone else is use to seeing at their home bowling alley. Its on average 3 MPH faster on TV.
Yes I do! It’s about creating as much separation between your hand and slide foot, and then loading it with “lag” in the swing which would be later timing and that will give you more potential to create a higher revrate
I heard somewhere the strike track measures the rev at the pins and not off the hand. If the ball is slowing down to roll through the pins wouldn’t it lose some revs?
Thanks for taking time out of your busy life Saturday at the race, can't wait to see how you do in the future.

Love it, keep up the work very entertaining video!
Effortless power no matter what way you throw it! Amazing Kid, go get them this season!

Cool video bro!! I wonder what my rev rate is?? 🤔
This is a great video!
I'd like to see a side view of your 2 handed and one handed release super imposed. I think you would be hard pressed to see a difference in the actual release and finish position.
This is one test I will never have to do. My thumb in rev rate is about half of what my thumb out rev rate is!
I'm guessing for you two handed may be for joint longevity?
Don't worry mikey I bowl way more revs 1 handed than 2. Mainly cuz I look like a off balanced feeble wobble with zero speed and hand 2 handed lol. Good video!

wow youre so cool and better than everyone else for not playing a certain way woaahh
Had you not just proven it I'd have never believed it.
~22 Revos, on lane 22.
Intended ?
They always boast about Jesper having the highest rev rate on tour, and they don’t want to be proven wrong.
I wonder what svensons rev rate is know. Also I wish you did more reviews that’d be dope
I have 3 balls in the pro shop right now getting jopo inserts installed and another ball on order that's going to get some too.
I guessed it would be pretty close between 1 hand and 2.
Stay with the one hand release for accuracy and health
a lot of pros wrists look crazy when they release the ball, no way thats healthier than just bending over
You're 2 handed game is quite impressive. It would be awesome if you could master both. Then, when it's time to get in hook it you switch to one-handed 😂
I knew you had hand!!! OMG!
thx buddy I knew 1handed for you was faster but in time Ibet (2) handed will pass it 600 plus baby!! =p
I agree that strike track is wrong. Everyone has always told me that specto and programs like that cant accurately register rev rate.
And they get the speed way off
@@whyamihere2366 yeah its measured off the hand instead of 50ft like everyone else is use to seeing at their home bowling alley. Its on average 3 MPH faster on TV.
@Mikey. You have extremely late timing, which works for you. Do you believe timing that late adds revs?
Yes I do! It’s about creating as much separation between your hand and slide foot, and then loading it with “lag” in the swing which would be later timing and that will give you more potential to create a higher revrate
580 😮😮😮
Much more efficient body motion two handed, you should switch.
No thumb balls has freer motion generates better pin action
Same Same

I think more revs for 2 hands
One handed
Yeah i don't think it's accurate on tv. Everyone says jesper's rev rate is 600+ and its usually 530-560 on the monitor.
but dont go (2) handed lol Nooo!!! Plz.. stay 1 handed =P
So basically, about the same.
Yea basically 😂
If you spin the ball it will not hook
You look like your using way to much arm muscle to force it faster. Not smooth or natural at all.
