Awesome job guy. We're from Ohio across the big pond. We have a window frame rotting at the bottom right just like you're sill that needs delt with. We haven't decided to replace or repair, it depends on how badly rotted the window frame is. Thanks for sharing this with all of us, you did a great job.
Great instruction. You made it look easy. I live in Montana USA where the winters are brutal. Snow can sit on a sill for 6 months. Wood rot definitely happens. I'm pretty sure I can take care of the situation - thanks to you. 🙂
I watched it all the way to the end of your video and as a trader myself well Don with this video, plenty of information and you got me listening 👍 Iv got a job similar to this on a shop front that is a listed building and yes I’m looking for tips. HOW TO USE THE RONSEAL WOOD REPAIR SYSTEM: Prepare the Surface. Remove all decayed and crumbly wood until fairly sound wood is exposed. This will feel more solid and less fibrous. Now leave the timber to dry out. It is essential that the timber is reasonably dry before treatment begins. To assist the drying process it may be possible to tape a plastic sheet loosely over the hole, in such a way that rain cannot get in, but evaporation can still take place. Ensure the remaining wood is free from grease, oil and all old paint and varnish remnants. For deep holes, insert non-rusting screws into the hole leaving the heads slightly proud to provide greater anchorage.
Exactly the method I need. The frame solves the major problem of accurate filling. I’ll try adding a strip of beading to mould the shape of the rain run off lip underneath the cill. I hope my cat comes to keep me company too! Many thanks.

When repairing rotten sills.after you ve left the wet rot hardener to set.i bang a few nails in the wood to add the strength to it and for the 2 pack to grab onto something and you dont use as much 2 pack
Thanks for instructional video. Sadly I did one cill & botched it. re did it after your video successfully. thanks for the practical tips. Have another cill to do now when the weather clears. PS. The Yankee spell checker keep attempting to Americanise cill into sill.
Looks good and a relatively cheap repair. With enough time and if the job could afford it I’d have probably spliced a new section in but for what it is 👍
I was recently using some wet rot wood hardener, but it did not harden off, remained in a sticky state?, any clues on what to try. Ronseal recommended rubbing over some acetone, which did remove the stickyness but it was still not hard. Might be related to how much you shake the tin at the start!.
We would normally chop that window cill back a wee bit more even if it meant losing the line, dry out any existing moisture with an heat gun, treat with hardener then pop some small screws in under the surface for the filler to grip to fill and sand.
Your L shape frame is a good idea! Thank you! One question: the nails that came off the wood from the bottom, don't you need to fill in the holes that caused by the nails?
My question would be why was it that wet? Was it from rain or did the window not get flashed correctly? If it had been repaired already there is another problem that is not being addressed. Sounds like the water is not draining correctly. Wouldn’t using a heat gun have sped up the process?
Its like blinker fluid & muffler bearings. Used to you could get a rookie parts man to spend an hour looking. But I learned 1 day te old Dodge Stealth & Mitsubishi 3000 had damn muffler bearings. Great tip with the vasoline, I’ll be using that! You need to be maintaining the lines and profiles but, and you cannot do that with a bit of sandpaper in your hand. If you back the paper on a longish flat piece of wood, your job would have went from 7/10- 10/10 for the same effort, you’re blowing out your own candle

Your obviously not a decorator are you😂that wood will be solid for years mate
Very helpful - many thanks. I liked that the cat was helping too....

Great job mate with a couple of handy tips:- the fitting of the wood frame & the vaseline . Cheers 👌
Wow! The best video by far on fixing rotten window thank you for sharing.
Thank you , this will help me to repair wood .You have made it so easy to follow .A great video
Fantastic job, well demostrated and explained , delightful cat too !!!!
Nice fix, never knew you could apply a hardner to wet rotten wood to stabilize it. I would have removed it all, you learn a new thing everyday.
Great video, thanks. Also good to hear realistic time-scales for the work (coming back second day etc)

Can you really apply that wood hardener over soaking wet wood? Does it also serve to dry the wood?

Thanks - great video and good info-- I didn't know about the drying agent
Nice one mate, & thanks for the Vaseline tip !
Wrap supporting timber with cling film or a freezer bag then the filler doesn't stick to it..👍
use a sureform to shape it when its almost hard. then sand. if its too sticky it clogs the blade though.
Thanks for instructional video. Sadly I did one cill & botched it. re did it after your video successfully. thanks for the practical tips. Have another cill to do now when the weather clears. PS. The Yankee spell checker keep attempting to Americanise cill into sill.
That's because SILL is the correct spelling. It is a window sill.
@@brianthwaites2397 It may be the correct spelling in the USA but in the UK it's CILL.
Looks good. You can make a profile from a plastic putty knife and sometimes you can get it in one try.
Excellent job mate!!
I spray the rotten wood, which seems to apply easier. I use a vegetable spray to coat the wood so it doesn't stick, easy peasy!
Looks good and a relatively cheap repair. With enough time and if the job could afford it I’d have probably spliced a new section in but for what it is 👍
Nice job mate, fingers crossed it'll hold up,time will tell?personally I would have just scarfed in a new piece of timber and two packed the joint
Thank you will help me enormously! Good job!
Doing a window sill repair job right now. Great video 👍
Thank you. I learnt a new method.

Good vid 👍 can you stain this product or only gloss I t ???
Awesome job candleman looks like brand new wood your painting buddy from the states.

ken the sycophant yank is fucking blind aswell
Cheers candleman. Great video useful information. 👍
depends what time you go. what time does the owner go . about 12. see you in Wetherspoons at 12.30 sort that out tomorrow.
By painting on hardener onto rotten wood your only sealing in the rot still there?
this will definately help me out for sure
Smashing work fella.

Fantastic. Looks a treat. If I could sand that quick I'd have it made in the shade.
Used that Ronseal wet rot hardner.. did not do a bloomin thing for some reason.
Good job. I've used epoxy and it's good stuff.
Brilliant. Thank you for this insightful video.

You are correct and totally in line with the manufacturers instructions, always best to do a job correctly...!!
That's what I am doing tomorrow. Not this
What filler did you use?
Good video and advice. Thanks for the demo and tips
Beautifully done, thanks a lot for sharing.
The trade is leaning towards resin repairs such as Repaircare. More expensive but far more flexible so lasts far longer.
That’s exactly what I’m gonna do now,,Thanks Mark👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
looking forward to try this on my many sills thanks
What happens if you don't put a primer If I use wood rot then use wood filler then paint on top
Nice video mate! Keep em coming 😀
good repair, well done.have to mind this..the wet rot hardner!,good stuff!
Is there a groove on the bottom of the window sill that you need to put for water to not drip on the house. I forget what it's called
It's a drip groove
I just looked it up and once the epoxy filler is cured it's totally waterproof
You find DRY ROT you better do more than that!!
looks great and an easy way to repair rotted wood
Your a top guy and top worker.love the vids.need more often though.at least you show decent vids
You need to cut a drip edge in the bottom or water will wick back up hill the the solid wood and make it rot out and you'll have to fix it agine.
Your L shape frame is a good idea! Thank you!
One question: the nails that came off the wood from the bottom, don't you need to fill in the holes that caused by the nails?
yeap!
Very helpful thank you.
Hello
How much do you charge per day for residential work
Great Job 🕯
Really helpful, cheers mate
I’ve used this on wet rotten wood and despite leaving for a few days the wood is still spongy and just feels sticky. Am I doing something wrong?
Yes.

It’s an old house, with all it’s little problems that just the way things are 🕯🎅🏻
Its wet because and im betting the paint itself trapped any water or moisture. Let dry naturally whats left of it!
@@wallingtonfilming This old house thing............ Simply not plausible for it be be the reason
A sanding block would have kept the repair straight at the front of the sill.
Job will done. Thank You.
This was great. I can do this!

Nice repair Mark 👍
nice repair? Are you stevie wonder
Yes it wasn't done to the 100 % way of lasting ... but I have to say you done a nice job there my man hats of to you... up the painters 👍
