    Hi ma'am. Is it normal that I can see the string of IUD outside my vagina? I asked the nurse who put it, she said you can just push it inside everytime it feels it's poking me

    Hi there. Thank you so much for all of your videos. I binged them before I got my IUD inserted about 6 months ago. My ex boyfriend did not feel the IUD strings, however my new boyfriend (with a longer appendage) is getting poked and it is affecting our sex life. It used to only be in some positions but now it is affecting almost all of them. I know you cannot give personal advice. However, when a doctor trims the strings I have read that it can make them worse and prevent them from curling. Does it truly help some people? Or can a doctor help "tuck" strings around the cervix? My obgyn is closed on sundays so I can't call them right now and I'm feeling discouraged about this situation. I have tried every birth control under the sun.

      Strings can be trimmed. But if trimmed too short, you’re correct- they might be more apt to “poke” because they are not long enough to tuck around behind the cervix.

      @@dr.kristinadervaitis789 thank you for your response! I got my strings trimmed on Tuesday, however my gyne said the strings were cut too short originally, which is why I was having issues. I could go ahead and get a new mirena and leave the strings longer so they curl properly, however I'm going to go back to the nexplanon implant. It seems to be the best option for me even though I have the frequent spotting! Thank you for your videos!!

    My wife had an IUD previously and removed it because I swear it felt like a poking feeling for me during intimacy. (She had one put in without my knowledge so it wasn't imaginary...she had been having trouble with pill form birth control so she had switched to this thing after her doctor advised her to do so). After my complaining(without knowing what was going on) she told me and this embarrassed her so she had it removed...we now have a second child and she is adamantly against an pill form birth control given her hormonal issues before so I asked her to try this again(we might want to have a 3rd in a few years so the snip isn't an option yet). Is there any advice you can give for a specific brand or something that can make it to where the hard pokey feeling isn't present again this next time?

    • @dr.kristinadervaitis789
      @dr.kristinadervaitis789  2 года назад

      When in proper position, with strings cut the appropriate length, all IUD’s are designed so that neither partner should notice it. If the strings are too long and causing a poking sensation, they can be trimmed.

      The problem here is you have no idea what you're talking about because you don't have a penis and have no clue what it feels like for the guy. It ruins sex because of the friction with the strings and cutting them makes it worse. @@dr.kristinadervaitis789

      I feel the string from my wife’s IUD as well. It pokes and scratches my penile meatus which is very painful. It makes me not want to have sex with her anymore. It’s too painful.

    Hi, your videos so educative...I've had copper iud for 6months now, problem is periods come after 16days and they last for 10days..please, what could be wrong?

    • @tinea.8516
      @tinea.8516 4 года назад +5

      They said that the first 6 months you will experience heavy flow. You can try using tampon and pad at night so you can sleep better or when you're going out to ensure no leaks :)

    Hi!
    I am planning on getting the copper paraguard IUD inserted in a couple weeks! Just because I need a ton of piece of mind, I also purchased a cervical cap (FemCap) and am wondering if the FemCap can be used in conjunction with the copper IUD in place or if the FemCap will pull on the strings of my IUD and increase the risk of IUD misplacement or explosion.
    Thanks!

    My partner felt the plastic he said it felt cold and I just got it like a month ago? And he enacylated in me 3x

      The plastic portion of the IUD should not be felt- if you are concerned about the position of your IUD, see your doctor and use back up contraception in the interim.

    When should we check for our IUD strings? Before, During or after our period?? Also, should the string always be felt dead center in the vagina or is it ok if they feel like they are pushed to the side up against the vaginal wall? if that makes sense...

    • @dr.kristinadervaitis789
      @dr.kristinadervaitis789  4 года назад +1

      Strings can be checked at any time. They might not be exactly central and might extend forwards, backwards or to the side... (although the string always originates from within the centre aspect of the cervical canal, the direction in which the string exits the cervix may vary).

    Hi there, first of all thank you so much for your videos. They’re so helpful!
    I just got mine inserted 2 days ago and I’ve noticed my anxiety and depression seem almost gone! I keep researching but it only says that hormonal birth control makes it worse but not for me. Have you heard of anything like this???
    Also, I can actually feel that my iud is there. Is not painful, but I can feel it there like a cramp but without the pain, more like just sensitive. I wonder if that will go away…

      Glad you found the videos helpful!
      There’s not any evidence that the IUD will improve depression and anxiety- although if fear of unplanned pregnancy is contributing significantly to the anxiety then certainly it might have a positive impact in that regard. Some cramping is normal in the first few weeks, but the IUD is designed so that the patient shouldn’t generally feel it or notice it after the initial adjustment period.

    Hello I need to know if the iud is not in place will the menstrual period Change

    • @dr.kristinadervaitis789
      @dr.kristinadervaitis789  4 года назад

      It depends... on what type of IUD, and whether it had changed the patient’s menstrual cycle or not. Please see video #27 about checking IUD strings (I mention the concept of using menstrual changes as a potential indicator re: IUD position).

    Is it normal procedure for doctors to tuck in the strings after the insertion to make sure the partner doesn't feel them?

    • @dr.kristinadervaitis789
      @dr.kristinadervaitis789  3 года назад +1

      Some practitioners might do this, I would not say it’s “standard” but it’s not harmful to do this.

    Can a menstrual cup be utilized while having an IUD?

    • @dr.kristinadervaitis789
      @dr.kristinadervaitis789  4 года назад +4

      Yes! (One of the topics I have planned for a future “fast fact” video! 😊)
      My own personal practice is to advise my patients not to use tampons or a menstrual cup just within the first 3 weeks after insertion (when the risk of infection is greater) and OK to use thereafter (but that is admittedly my own advice/practice, and not an official “guideline”)
