Thanks so much John! I'm 40 now but a plain dressing country boy at heart. I'm finally trying to step my game up... This is super helpful so I'm about to dig into your other videos!
Thanks for posting this one John. Hope you're healing up as well as possible. I'd also agree that those slip-in sneakers that seem to be increasingly popular are an absolute travesty. I wouldn't be caught dead in those. My shoe game is strong and is one the aspects of my style that I feel best about.
I have seen some nicer minimal leather slip on sneakers before but they don’t seem to be very common at all. The only thing in most cases where these may be useful a suede loafer would be a better option.
Hey John, hope the Summer's going well! You're looking good post surgery! What's your go-to brand for loafers? Since we need to size slightly tighter with them, it's sometimes difficult for me to find a good fit and comfort balance.
Thanks, John. I followed your advice on sneaker protocols, got to Germany and saw everyone wearing sports sneakers casually. Would be cool to hear your advice on traveling and style alignment.
I personally feel a nice pair of whole cut shoes in light/mid brown from say Crockett and Jones looks amazing with dark indigo jeans. Some people say you should only wear Derby’s or loafers! This is wrong in my opinion.
Good content John. I started making an effort to improve my style a year or so ago, and your channel is one of my 3 go-to advice resources. You’ve helped me a lot.
Just found your channel and have really enjoyed the videos I have seen so far. I travel to Texas a lot for work from the midwest and all my vendors wear cowboy boots regularly, either a work version like an Ariat if they are in the trades or a dressier brand like Luchesse or Tecova (Thursday has even jumped on the bandwagon with a Roper style boot) if they are in the office. Wanted to get your thoughts on incorporating cowboy boots into the footwear rotation of you are not from places that wear them daily.
I should also add, that I've been sharing your videos with my wife. She's been trying to find something similar for the female perspective but everything really seem to be fashion heavy. She likes to look good, but is no a fashionista by any stretch.
My wife is asking too. Too much inappropriate dress sense out there for 18-28 year old women. Too revealing in every sense. “Athleisure wear” which looks like they’ve gone out to the mall wearing just a bra & pantyhose and have forgotten to put on a skirt or dress over the top.
This was great , John. Love the content about the winery too. Makes me think of this: I like to match my girl. Even if it’s just a date (not a first or second date tho). And I’ve NEVER met a woman who didn’t absolutely love that. Beyond making her happy, it gives you the confidence knowing you’re dressed appropriately and to her liking. Consider it one fewer thing to worry about for all those over thinkers out there.
Great video, I was waiting for a video like this your the first to do one thanks am always wondering how to combine my foot wear with the rest of my outfits, this is great, thanks again 👍
John, thoughts on what to wear to my son's rehearsal dinner the night before his wedding. Its in a restaurant we rented out, and we are in Atlanta (hot). I have linen pants and loafers, but I am not sure about a top. It's not formal. Thanks.
John, question. Do you go with a belt or without in your casual look. Like your chinos, suede loafers, light weight button up outfit, with a belt? I don't think you had one on.
A question came to mine that might merit a different video: discussing shoe materials & what’s ok versus faux pas? Are there non leather ones that will still look good? I have a pair of Oliver Cabel white sneakers that are real leather, but also have pair of black sneakers by Cole Haan that look like leather , but seem to be hybrid or non leather (shoe polish didn’t work with them). Sometimes shoes (and boots) are advertised as leather, but actually only have it on inside, too. It can be very confusing , especially if you buy online & havent seen/felt them in person.
Very good video John. I really like the combination of clothes and shoes in the samples. In my case, for example, in the summer, apart from loafers and leather shoes for formal occasions, the rest of the time I wear flip-flops and sandals. I would like to know what type, brand or even material you use in your flip flops or sandals, could you talk about this in another video or comment?
I own the brown Thursday loafers, true to brannock size. I wear 8.5E and the 8.5 fit great. One thing is though it does touch the ankle bone when walking. It is comfortable but it also might bother some. The Brown color way is extremely sexy, women compliment me when I wear these loafers. Get em, well worth the price.
Sneakers if you do a whole lot of walking. Otherwise loafers are the go to choice. Both in solid black. Dress pants are thinner than jeans or khakis so they work better in Florida. Let the place you are going dictate the shirt.
What about a corporate casual office function? Basically it is a corporate casual outdoor barbecue for all staff. Standard dress is business casual, (manufacturing company). Any suggestions?
Great video, thanks. Question, what is the brand of polo you wore in the video? Also, in the winery section you modeled a light blue. What brand is that? I definitely need to add to my shoe collection!
Would oxblood, burgundy double monk straps in museum calf leather is good for weddings and for night date? Because i am thinking of building my shoe collection and when it comes to true dress shoes, thinking of black whole cut oxfords and double monk straps in oxblood/burgundy monk straps. For casual stuff- dark brown suede penny or belgian loafers and two pairs of dress sneakers, white and black.
What does a modern clean suede loafer say over a polished pair? "I am stylish with a measure of wealth but I am also warm and approachable." Great video John, nice to see you up and about after the surgery.
I have Thursday boots. Absolutely love them. I think people are either a boot person or a loafer person. Loafers to me look a bit on the feminine/slipper side. I wouldnt be caught dead in a pair of loafers. Sorry.
Your location is dictating your style. You need to pick up the PNW vide of black socks and sandals. 🙄 Thanks for a well thought out and helpful video, John. Positive thoughts for a speedy and complete recovery!
Black jeans are way harder to pull off than people think. And shoe choices are even tougher. I advise against black jeans. Period. (And I’m respectfully not on board for boots in summer either).
I'm THAT flip-flop guy. Mind you, I'm talking a nice leather thong (like Olukai). I will not wear them with denim or other long pant, but In the casualness of summertime, they are more a staple for me. I'm land-locked in Ohio (I don't count Lake Erie), but my heart and soul belongs to the coastlines of the US. If my wife and I are hitting a pub for grub and drinks, breezy linens and leather flip-flops are my goto. Sorry, but not sorry. 😊 Edit: I have a few pairs of loafers that I've purchased over the last few years that I never wear. I think I look goofy in them, and for me, they've never looked right with shorts or summer pants. I don't follow many "rules" in style or conventional living. At 57, my basic tenet is don't dress like you're 25. Otherwise, I do what I do for me. If I'm comfortable, then I'm confident and feel good.
@@AdrianHall-Cooper Yeah. I've tried it, but it doesn't work for me. I'm an old rocker/musician hobbiest with tattoo sleeves and sort of an unkempt medium flow haircut. I just don't match up with all the influencer advice.

Yes, thank you!
Good content John. I started making an effort to improve my style a year or so ago, and your channel is one of my 3 go-to advice resources. You’ve helped me a lot.
Nothing like a nice relaxed loafer, the universal shoe. A step up from a sneaker, while still can be dressed down
Couldn't agree more!
Great points about the diff bw shiny leather and suede-like loafers. Night and day as far as casualness goes
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'm glad you're on your way to recovery after your surgery. Stay Safe & Healthy... Abrazos

I prefer a matte leather over suede. What do you think of this?

Great video! What suede loafers do you recommend?
Try Suit Supply & Shop Mehra.
Amazing video as always John. Great advice. All the best with your recovery mate 😀

Maybe a nice Johnny Collar polo tucked in, in a contrasting color tone to the pants?

I almost always do. Sometimes for the sake of filming the video, and move pretty quickly with outfit changes. :)
Another great video mate!!
This is a big help, thank you so much!!

Hey John, how do you feel about suede or leather Chelsea boots during the summer months?
Don’t mind them at all.

What state and city were you born in? your English pronunciation is very clear.

If it’s at work, I would still stay with your standard business casual. If it’s away from work, go as casual as you like.
Great video, thanks. Question, what is the brand of polo you wore in the video? Also, in the winery section you modeled a light blue. What brand is that? I definitely need to add to my shoe collection!
The brown polo is from Amazon, and the light blue button polo is from Express.

Brown or taupe single monk strap?

Burgundy monk straps should be excellent dress shoes, particularly for any situation where the black whole-cut oxfords would be too dressy.
Serious question: do you put a new, shiny penny in the penny loafers? Is it too cringe?
I don’t.
Enjoyable fashion "commentary😊❤🎉💯."

which belt to wear with white shirt , blue denims , white shoes?
What kind of white shoes, sneakers?
Light gray or blue

Good content, although I personally am not a fan of white sneakers on a grown man, even if they are dress sneakers.
Bonus Tip: Make sure your shoes are clean and maintained.

Dressing for a wedding sometimes gets a bit challenging. Is not easy to find that sweet spot.
Just wear traditional black dress shoes
I really just wear cleaner leather sneakers.
Black jeans are way harder to pull off than people think. And shoe choices are even tougher. I advise against black jeans. Period. (And I’m respectfully not on board for boots in summer either).
I just wear socks and sandals with super skinny jeans and a long baggy Tee shirt. No accessories at all and it gets me laid.
😂😂

What about Fani and Nate? You think they dressed up during their taxpayer funded jaunts to the various wineries?
Leaning a little too heavy on the word super.
When and how to wear loafers or monkstraps: never.
