Cosmo is one of those musicians that I'm certain has some depth or message to his songs but I refuse to acknowledge it. I choose to believe this dude just loves biology and puts it to a melody
Some days I'm like: Ah yes, the tardigrade is clearly a metaphor for- Other days I'm like: Haha little tardigrade drinking whiskey and wearing little socks in his little patch of moss haha
i think that the lyrics are beautiful because on one hand people are saying that if they were a Tardigrade then they'd live out their lives and explore. While on the other hand actual Tardigrades just want to live in their shrubbery.
@@nickgreen4731 I think the meaning is that sometimes people don't need to explore the world or make some big stuff to be happy. Sometimes you just live your own life, small and unnoticed, and are still happy with it. Nothing to change. People are convinced that to be happy they need to do big things, and "if they were able to, they would do it", but actually you just sometimes don't need to be able, to be better, you just enjoy what you have and are satisfied with it and don't need to prove anything to the world. Well it's just my interpretation 😅
Sounds like something that you'd hear in a Medieval-type Tardigrade village, being played in some old Tardigrade Tavern while next to a Tardi-fireplace
This song feels exactly like a sea shanty. There’s even an effect that sounds like someone turning a ship’s wheel. You can imagine a bunch of sailors singing this at sea.

it makes me think of a very short little knight who is incredibly resistant, but after one mission with the king he basically is like “nah i think i’ll stay home”
Today I feel like posting my interpretation of this song, so there we go. It's about a person that wishes they were stronger to resist the hardships of life (like a tardigrade, that are famous for being practically unkillable, kinda) but then looks back at all the things they have gone through and survived, concluding they are already strong as a tardigrade and would not trade their life and experiences for anything because it's what has allowed them to be in the position they are right now, and is contempt with that.
I know full well that this song is about a gross micro animal, however, I love this song not only for the melody, but for a more personal reason. As a kid, I used to have this rabbit toy. If you pulled down on its feet, it would play music! It used to comfort me a lot as a kid, and I still have it to this day! When I heard this song for the first time, I burst into tears, because the "la la" bits of the song sound eerily similar to the rabbit toy. Even the music accompaniment. I even played the song for my dad. He agreed, and also cried. Sorry for the paragraph, but, uh, I just thought I'd share that. This song slaps regardless though
I made the mistake of looking up what a tardigrade is, because I'm not a native english speaker and didn't know... Why are small things so scary and basically immortal? On the other hand... this song makes a lot more sense now...
a few years ago i got bored and didnt want to play anything with my brothers, so when they asked me what animal i wanted to be (for a game) i immediately said "tardigrade". its been an inside joke ever since, i have a tardigrade shirt and a small box of tardigrade mints. my mom just sent me this song and it is. its perfection. for me when i become a tardigrade im all lazy, and this song perfectly captures how cool tardigrades are and why id like to be one-
I had the itch to look Cosmo up on wikipedia. After seeing his dad's and brother's professions, his music all became more clear. I know a father and brother doesn't define someone, but it certainly does leave some influence.
song tdlr; There are two characters in this song, The Human, & our little friend, The Tardigrade. The human wants to be a tardigrade so he can be invincible, but the actual tardigrade just wants to stop being exposed to the vacuum of space
Honestly, this song is like me with my mental health. I can survive a lot of pressure and fire, but only by shutting down like a tardigrade, so I prefer to avoid those situations so I can actually live my life.
Tah Lia if it helps any this song could either be about how people are greedy and search for more than they need, you never know what you can do unless you push yourself through hardships, or some of the coolest things ever.
i really love this song, considering tardigrades are literally immortal. when he says "if i shed all my liquid and let myself dry out i'll shrivel and shrink for some 15 odd years" there was a space ship that crashed with live tardigrades in it, and they could possibly still be alive. when someone conducted an experiment with a tardigrade replicating the moons low pressure. the tardigrades actually curled up and stop moving. "id wake up come water and get on with living" now, amazingly when he rose the pressure again the tardigrades just began to move and wriggle as if nothing had happened "i can live life in vaccuums for years with no drink" once again, tardigrades dont need water. and in the experiment seen above, the tardigrades pressure was actually modified using a vaccuum. i just think thats cool
And while our greed may one day destroy us, nothing we could ever do will wipe out all the tardigrades. They will be here long after we have gone extinct or evolved into a new species.
I have terrible anxiety and overstimulation. I get overwhelmed very easily. Your music, and especially this song, has helped me self regulate immensely. The lyrics are whimsical but the melody is very orderly and precise. It helps me have a sense of control again. I'm not even sure you intended to make something calming, but I'm thankful from the bottom of my heart.
A few days I woke up and this song was immediately in my head before any other coherent thought. Since I was only half awake, though, I thought my alarm was ringing because I had to go meet my tardigrade friends. (I still didn't even know what tardigrades were at that point)
0:40 ok I need to talk about this. YOUR VOICE IS AMAZING AND HOW UR VOICE JUST DRIFTS AT THIS POINT IS AMAZING HOLY HELL………anyway this is a great song and it’s apart of my childhood which is amazing
i didn't realize it until today, even after listening to this song so many times, not until i looked up the lyrics and decided to sing along did i finally remember; i am a tardigrade. i can seemingly handle so much, yet i don't want to use it to go on adventures or put myself through unnecessary stress. just let me be in my patch of moss, let me have my shrubbery, i wouldn't trade what I love for a knife, or a cup, or a throne. i felt a rush of "myself" singing to your song, cosmo. thank you.
This song feels like a dude who is experiencing the feeling of wasted potential. He could do more. He knows he could become what ever he wants but he stays home fully aware that he could survive the hardships
the mainly instrumental bits, such as 3:35, just make me so happy. It sounds so mystical, but also silly, and reminds me of wind chimes and bird feeders. It makes me feel like I’m going to go float up on a cloud, greet a dragon, then go nap in a mushroom hut I paid for with patterned seashells.
**inhale** SO- IMAGINE THIS- A little woodland faerie, with a mushroom hat and dress, dancing in the evening. Her cottage has a warm fire, and she sits in front of it with her socks and a glass of whiskey. Nothing can hurt her, nothing worries her. She enjoys her small life, wanting nothing more than to frolick in the woods and bushes. She sings a sweet, yet haunting tune.

sure, you're resilient, can survive the harshest and worst environments, always come up on top and nothing can truly hurt you. you can achieve greatness. but why by all goodness would you want to do all that unpleasantness if you're just fine and comfy with what you have?
Cosmo Sheldrake's music give me the feeling of going fishing with my dad or grandfather (he named his boat after me 😌), sometimes my brother or cousins. Depending on the time of the year we'd go to this place with very clear water where you could see the fish biting the line and sometimes we'd even see sharks, other times we'd go stand on this massive wall by the harbour. I remember being a young child and seeing a man catch like fifty fish and they were all on the land flopping around my his feet. Said it was for his cat.
As a biology/environmental studies nerd, I got so excited when I found your music. Not only is the subject matter of the song wonderful, but I love your sound and lyrics, aaaa! :)
Did you know that tardigrades are actually quite fragile when not in a dormant state, aka when deprived or water, oxygen or food they turn into little cocoons and then they are super tough. So no, you cannot explore if you're a tardigrade.

I'm not even sure you intended to make something calming, but I'm thankful from the bottom of my heart.
As Magnus, Taako, and Merl battle these guys, this is the song that plays
Reily Chaco The Adventure Zone is amazing
THESE ARE THE THINGS, I NEVER WILL LEARN.
This song 100% has an instrumental that would fit in TAZ though, no joke
Idiocide if an instrumental were to be released-
This is the first time I’ve seen someone mention The adventure zone that was not on a video related to it.
Ngl, role-playing as a pirate while In the sea ,drinking with your mates as you got some kind of rare treasure. It's good
This song is a fucking stellar horror track if you didn't know what a tardigrade was before googling it after.
A few days I woke up and this song was immediately in my head before any other coherent thought. Since I was only half awake, though, I thought my alarm was ringing because I had to go meet my tardigrade friends. (I still didn't even know what tardigrades were at that point)
awww yeah
we got a song just for tardigrades
0:40 ok I need to talk about this. YOUR VOICE IS AMAZING AND HOW UR VOICE JUST DRIFTS AT THIS POINT IS AMAZING HOLY HELL………anyway this is a great song and it’s apart of my childhood which is amazing
"I live in the shrubbery, for that's all I crave " That's all I crave too, I want to live in the shrubs too!
Cosmo has this tune and vibe that you instantly know it's them. I don't know how.
I love these little creatures so much I have used them in my science class for drawings
This sounds like a sea shanty from another world
i didn't realize it until today, even after listening to this song so many times, not until i looked up the lyrics and decided to sing along did i finally remember; i am a tardigrade.
i can seemingly handle so much, yet i don't want to use it to go on adventures or put myself through unnecessary stress. just let me be in my patch of moss, let me have my shrubbery, i wouldn't trade what I love for a knife, or a cup, or a throne.
i felt a rush of "myself" singing to your song, cosmo. thank you.
Perfect song for writing D&D campaigns.
This song feels like a dude who is experiencing the feeling of wasted potential. He could do more. He knows he could become what ever he wants but he stays home fully aware that he could survive the hardships
Me arguing with my friends who love technology while i want to be in the forest collecting bones and experiment on insects and plants:
This song is full of win.
Won
That tardigrade really said “bring me a shrubbery”...
Now I know Im a tardigrade and nobody can squash me. Just Flowing in Space
I love the song, and tardigrades are nuts.
the mainly instrumental bits, such as 3:35, just make me so happy. It sounds so mystical, but also silly, and reminds me of wind chimes and bird feeders. It makes me feel like I’m going to go float up on a cloud, greet a dragon, then go nap in a mushroom hut I paid for with patterned seashells.
This song always gives me hobbit vibes, all of his songs invoke such awesome stories in my head! Probably my favorite artist 🖤
one of the most underrated songs on Earth like what
**inhale**
SO-
IMAGINE THIS-
A little woodland faerie, with a mushroom hat and dress, dancing in the evening. Her cottage has a warm fire, and she sits in front of it with her socks and a glass of whiskey. Nothing can hurt her, nothing worries her. She enjoys her small life, wanting nothing more than to frolick in the woods and bushes. She sings a sweet, yet haunting tune.
Friends: So what do you like to listen to? Ariana Grande? Any rappers?
Me: Uuuuhhh, well-
Also me: *It’s kinda complicated-*
Me: *T A R D I G R A D E*
Friends: "Wha-"
Me: *_YOU HEARD ME LOUD AND CLEAR_*
cRap
me: *O W L S*
friend 1: *M O S S*
me: (stares at friend 1 hopeful)... eggs?
friend 1: (with tears on their eyes) and soldiers!
me and friend 1: (hugs)
friend 2: What the FU-
It's better
this doesent even make sense :')
Turns out after months of listening to this song I just found out a tardigrade is a water bear, not someone who is tardy, now it makes a lot of sense
sure, you're resilient, can survive the harshest and worst environments, always come up on top and nothing can truly hurt you. you can achieve greatness.
but why by all goodness would you want to do all that unpleasantness if you're just fine and comfy with what you have?
Tardigrades deserve this kinda appreciation.
literally Bilbo Baggins' inner dialogue
Cosmo Sheldrake's music give me the feeling of going fishing with my dad or grandfather (he named his boat after me 😌), sometimes my brother or cousins. Depending on the time of the year we'd go to this place with very clear water where you could see the fish biting the line and sometimes we'd even see sharks, other times we'd go stand on this massive wall by the harbour. I remember being a young child and seeing a man catch like fifty fish and they were all on the land flopping around my his feet. Said it was for his cat.
This dude sounds like a pirate, love all his songs❤
I saw this guy at beatherder a couple of days ago, this was the song that made me want to follow his music. bloody awesome stuff
The way he sings in this song just feels so bubbly and alive
This feels like swimming up towards the light
I cant believe I barely just found this song. I love it so much. I have a tardigrade plushie and now a song to sing to him
As a biology/environmental studies nerd, I got so excited when I found your music. Not only is the subject matter of the song wonderful, but I love your sound and lyrics, aaaa! :)
I don’t know how I came across this song from a wikipedia article about tardigrades but I’m so glad I did!
MOSS PIIIIIIIIGS
*CHAOTIC HAPPY SCREAMING*
Did you know that tardigrades are actually quite fragile when not in a dormant state, aka when deprived or water, oxygen or food they turn into little cocoons and then they are super tough. So no, you cannot explore if you're a tardigrade.
The first song I heard that is about water bears
AND it's absolutely awesome
I'm literally obsessed with cosmo
he made me realize my spiritual beliefs and what I want to do with my life
I will remember this man on my death bed
I am taking zoology in high school and this song actually helped me on a test.
Bro, i thought a tardigrade was a bird for the past 4 years 💀
(Its been 3 weeks, it still sounds like it should be a tropical bird and my brain wont let me think otherwise)
This song got me dancin inside a forest finding mushrooms
No longer do we discuss how dogs wear pants, now we discuss how tardigrades wear socks.
