  • We are working on a 2003 Honda CR-V with 63k miles. The passenger side cv axle was beginning to make some noise and we decided to replace it.

    What you can do is put a good-sized socket that fits between the shafts sideways and hammer it. Once they come apart a little bit go one size bigger socket till they come apart. You might bend the little shield guard, but it is easy to straighten it with pliers.

    Ended up having to do the same thing on my 2004 element 5 Speed. I tried everything from hammers to pry bars to slide hammers and all I achieved was breaking part of the intermediate shafts mounting. So for anyone reading; if it dosent come off with a hammer or pry bar just suck it up and remove the whole intermediate shaft. Luckily the IM shaft slides in and out of the transmission easily

    Hammer technique is what worked for me after I removed the heat shield, didn't have to take the whole assembly off

    Been working on mine since last Saturday passenger side was stuck as well so I move to passenger did the whole front suspension on both sides, with work was super busy, finally got the passenger off today with a prybar and hammering, definitely impatient doesn’t help 😂 overall great vidoe, shows you don’t need to be skilled to do basic maintenance

    Autozone rents a puller to make removing a stuck axle very easy, its free to rent you just get your money back once you return it. I always stop there and rent a axle puller before I start just in case.

    I ended up putting axle in hydraulic press. (Needed more force) to make it fit, remove boot and joint fall out. Now it fits. To separate bearing use adapters ,bearing separator tool. (Two flat plates has 2 bolts going thru em.) To hold axle. Once break loose. I did rest on floor, with chisel. Less effort.

    They call it a stabilizer bar for a reason...it keeps your vehicle stable . ; )

  • @joubess

    There is no reason to remove stabilizer bars to add a lift kit. I've never heard of anybody doing that just to lift the suspension a few inches. The only reason to remove the stabilizer bars is if you plan to drive it off road only on very rough terrain at slow speeds. It would allow more flex. That said, I wouldn't remove the stabilizer bars for all the tea in Asia. The truck works fine off road with the stabilizer bars in place, but you may have to navigate more carefully and slowly around big holes and very uneven trails. If you want a vehicle that is made for heavy off-road use with high clearance, get a big Jeep Wrangler.

    I have an 02 and it vibrates above 60mph and pulls to one side harder than the other under accel and hard braking. it has almost a rotational (dependent on RPM) light thumping and clicks on a full lock turn. definitely feels under powered. that an axle issue? was gonna swap out the LCA's as well for freshened bushings. already did the balljoints. and outer tie rod ends (not inners)

    • @southerngearz
      @southerngearz  3 года назад +2

      Hmmm sounds like an axle for sure but also check your wheels for missing wheel weights for the vibrating above 60mph. Do you have the awd or full time 4x4?

      Yeah, instead take the three bolts loose at the lower ball joint, then disconnect the tie-rod end. Swivel the strut to the side and you'll have plenty of access and no need to align.

    This video is an absolute monstrosity. No need for any of this crap.
    Get a 32mm socket and put it sideways into the opening between the shaft and hammer is in. It will push both sides apart with absolute EASE.
    If the shaft is still mounted to the car just duct tape the extension to the side of the 32mm socket and with 3-4 heavy hammer shots it WILL 100% separate.
    Chiselling it at and angle obviously is not helping. Try this next time.
    If anyone needs some more clarify let me know

    • @lencranston8183
      @lencranston8183 2 года назад

      If the caliper was still in place, the hose would have restricted the amount of travel that he gained to remove the axle. He should have supported the caliper with a piece of wire or short bungee just to be safe.
