    This is heads and tails above all the other Audacity tutorials I have been watching. As a fairly new voice over artist having to work from home and needing to have a firm grasp and knowledge of the sound engineering, recording, and editing aspect of the business, I have finally found what I was looking for! While there are some decent tutorials on RUclips, most rely on distracting background music and talk at breakneck speed or are hard to understand. You sir, not only have a thorough knowledge of the subject but a calm demeanor and excellent speaking voice that is not rushed. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. It is most appreciated!

      Why should I have it at 16-bit? What's wrong with have it at 24 or 32 or something?

    • @peakdavid
      @peakdavid  7 лет назад

      Hi, Luis--thanks for your question. It's a good one. The video you watached was made for students using their home computers to record their voice narration. I should have that clearer. So 16-bit was all the depth they needed along with the 44.1 sample rate. Given their goal of a web-based voice recording on a home computer, I was trying to keep them within manageable limits for their equipment.

    • @cellyzs
      @cellyzs 7 лет назад

      David Taylor
      Oh ok I see. So what about if you wanted to word like a voice over for music. Would 16 bit also be acceptable? Thank you for respond by the way

    • @peakdavid
      @peakdavid  7 лет назад

      If you're going to broadcast it on the web, I would think 16-bit is sufficient. But, hey, try a sample of 24 bit and maybe you can hear a difference. So much depends on the equipment you're using,too.

    This presenter clearly knows how to pace and illustrate his 'lecture' effectively - which contrasts so obviously with other pseudo-teachers on RUclips. They gabble, use strange American colloquialisms (which do not survive across cultural boundaries), make unsubstantiated and childish claims, have no understanding of how to modulate their voice or provide changes of emphasis and, most importantly, fail to allow time for the 'student' to absorb the data (masquerading as information) they present. This video is a joy to listen to, easy to follow, addresses key topics of the process of audio-recording and is generally an effective education tool. I personally will look for more material by this presenter, whom I recommend..

      Hi Dave I just subscribed I've been using audacity for several years now and just came into a little problem.
      I'm using Windows 10 I have been from several years now.
      The problem is when I go to export audio the window does not pop up it doesn't tell me anything where it's going WAV file MP3 I hit export and basically nothing happens.
      This just started occurring out of the blue any clue what it might be.
      Lame is there this is a real Puzzler any clue may help me.

    Interesting "Complete Tutorial ... for Beginners" as you show how to do what YOU do and not what IT does or can do or what option is for what... I mean some one who has never used it before may have learned something, I still did, even though I figured out everything else you showed by playing with it. I came to learn what I missed and what all does this thing do. How can I do what I need to do easily with, what are my options, and tools available.
    What was not addressed for "Complete Tutorial"... Not all sounds are done in stereo (why/why not). Different effects/filters (what, what for, and why). Not wave, never wave...what are the different file types and what's good with/for what (factual, not opinionated.. or both even). I am using X_name-your-gadget_X as an input (how to get connected and where to make adjustments) or these files/recordings/sounds (importing files). How to mix/cut/join different bits/pieces/whole/numerous sound files (just the basics of file editing, as is what Audacity is for or can do. I know I missed a lot, but.. It's a very versatile tool. Show it off. No offence, just saying/critique.

    • @peakdavid
      @peakdavid  7 лет назад +5

      It's a good question and I have answered it but who could possibly find it? I made the video for a class who was learning to use Camtasia. So the audio file needed to be uncompressed for best use in the video editor since it would be compressed when the video was rendered. Otherwise, the highly compressed .mp3 would be the way to go. I should add an annotation about this.

    • @dinandfriends2750
      @dinandfriends2750 7 лет назад +1

      I bet you are suggesting I use the .mp3 file extention since I am trying to learn how to fix the audio on some videos I made using movavi and output them as .mp3 and later converted them to .mp2 for RUclips. For some reason RUclips wants videos in .mp2.

    This is great - thank you! I’m a complete novice in the realm of audio editing. Audacity is the first and only editor I’ve tried, based on this one tutorial alone. I’m a volunteer making field recordings of people speaking in environments with lots of ambient and sometimes other background noises anywhere from door closures, to soft conversations, up to PA announcements. I’ve learned enough from this one tutorial, applying it with a little trial and error, to end up with tremendously improved final products. I love how Audacity makes it easy to really zoom in on problem areas to improve or eliminate. For my purposes, the combination of Audacity and this tutorial is all I really needed. Your teaching style, and step by step, one feature at a time, straight forward approach made learning what I needed to know almost effortless. RUclips, when used for responsible teaching, available to all anytime anywhere is a triumphant modern miracle. It looks like you made this video tutorial about 3years ago and it is still valid, still helping people learn. I noticed a few nomenclature changes on some of the menus in the version of Audacity I downloaded, but they are close enough that I never got lost. So kudos too to the developers for making updates in such ways that do not render great tutorials like this one obsolete.
