About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on RUclips videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

It's great to have helpful neighbors.
Hi..... Jason and Lorraine, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐖🌱🎥👍👍👍
Jason..your sensitivity is very apparent..killing to provide for your family must be hard; but I give you kudos for your perseverance..I will look forward to the financial breakdown..but I am so proud of you and your family with, not only the progress of your homestead, but the emotional fortitude..you've come so far, all by the grace of God..love you all.
Diane Black agreed! I can feel that tension and sadness from him. I thought, is something wrong? but of course saying goodbye to animals is always hard.
Laura Martinez Jason’s just not a natural killer. I can sense his compassion. It’s hard when you have an emotional attachment-good or bad-it has a price. But the brothers were born to be bacon 🥓 It was their destiny.
RIP Brothers... you were loved!
I believe that was the beatenest things I’ve ever seen. I am 70 yrs oldraised pigs since the age of 9 and in 4H on an off and on basis. I worked on several sow farms and had my own. I have seen cattle loaded this way but never pigs. This proves that you all are truly good care takers of your pice of Gods earth and his creatures. Bless you and your house Tim
Those brothers have had a good life - but they don’t know what’s up - I pray they do it quickly and humanely - I will miss them - they were so sweet and even when they had the romp and fun run - I couldn’t help but smile. YOu guys treated them well and gave them good Iives!
Your wife is a very smart lady. You two make a great team!
Oink oink! Oh Brothers you are going to be so missed. It has been such a pleasure sharing part of your life. Jason and Lorraine you had a stressful few hours. Thank you to the neighbour with the 4WD tractor who saved the day.
Looking forward to hearing about the cuts you chose. So many choices to make. Hope you are thrilled with the results.
The Brothers were the most handsome looking pigs I have ever seen 😍 So cute! 🐷🐷 & they always looked super happy at your home - even when they ran wild 😁 #pigsforeveryone! SowTheLand did it!! 🙌🏻
I’m going to miss you both talking to the brothers. Really enjoying your family. God bless your family. 🙏❤️🙏❤️
I've been raising pigs for a long time and I've never seen pigs load that easy. Good job.
Lol. oh thank goodness!
@@SowtheLand Just don't expect it to be that easy every time. Wait till you taste the meat, SO much better than anything you can get in the store.
We put the trailer in place 3-4 days early and start feeding them in the trailer. On departure day they hop right in... Easy Peasy every time.
@@alexregonly THAT is brilliant.
no kidding, i would have bet money they wouldn't go in that trailer without a chute, they have been handled alot but still,
and they are nice looking hogs too, cant wait to hear what they weigh
Lots of people raise animals to feed their family. Your family gives those animals a great life. You take the best care of them. You are gentle and loving with them. Not everyone does that. It is special. Y'all may be new to it but you are the best at caring for the animals. peace and love, y'all
Many thanks to sharing this with us and bless your neighbour for the help he gave you.
You guys did such a great job raising two beautiful animals and this is your first time. So kind and respectful to your animals. I admire that
Great job loading the Brothers....such a smooth transition and stress free for them.
Having them out on grass is a good change. They're smart animals so moving them around provides good enrichment- and happiness has to taste better than boredom or misery.
You guys really do get the award for 'best names all-around'.
It was amazing, I guarantee you , come winter you will be so thankful that you did this !!
Great watching the raising of your pigs. Thankyou
Thanks for sharing your raising pig journey! We just purchased 10 acres of land and pigs is one of the animals we want to raise on the homestead.
You guys are awesome! Such an inspiration for a small family homestead. Keep it small and simple!
I just want to say that from their picture in the thumbnail, your Berkshire breed pigs have magnificent hams!
You guys did a great job. I swear that day they went crazy was just due to all of the traffic noise. There was more loud noise and traffic that day. Than any other day or move you did. They were just scared and didn't know what to do. And thank you Mr. tractor guy.
10:58 made me laugh to see the way they were sleeping. They were so cute!! I'll miss the brothers. Snif!
It was nerve wracking for us too. Good job. I liked that ours were on grass as well, a lot of the pigs are raised in a pen and i think we had the happiest pig at the fair for playing in the dirt his time here.
those are some of the most tame pigs I've ever seen. good job guys
I love how gentle you all are with your animals and with each other.
So inspiring 🙏
👍🏾 👍🏼 🎉
To the neighbor with a 4WD tractor
Thanks that’s my step dad!
I am already missing the curly tails, the contented grunting, the sensitive pink noses poking over the fence and those growing hams-not to mention the pig wallows, their gentleness, their closeness as pigs and the way they educated Jasón and Lorraine. Perfect first pigs.
The Brothers were so gentle and their chubby butts were so cute. I'll miss them. You were very good to them and I believe they were very happy living on your homestead.
Thanks again... We will be waiting patiently for the next one.
You guys did a great job with the brothers.
Gosh, when you got those pigs I thought they looked so big! But with that look back they seem so small compared to now! You three did a fantastic job raising the brothers. Congratulations on a job well done.
Yall gonna get some good hams. Thank you brothers 🤗
I enjoyed the type of pigs that they were .The brothers were very gentle pigs.
The brothers were happy on your farm. Looks like you did a great job with them. They knew you loved them.
Raising pigs can be a very rewarding experience. I remember fondly as a child growing up on a small family farm, we raised all of our own livestock, & sold a few to neighbors too. It was a great way to keep our freezers full, without costing us a lot of money.
Great job guys! I was curious to see how the hogs would turn out raising them in the hoop house. Looks like it turned out great and you raised two really healthy looking hogs. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the good learning 👍
They are such handsome pigs!
The first time doing something is a challenge. You tend to worry and then find it was all for not. Good job.
You have to process them ,save money
It's easy way
Good job on rising the pigs ,they lock so healthy
God bless you and your family
Bittersweet day but an awesome achievement. You did great and created awesome loving animals. I hope to get to see your next run.
"You can't take the bigness out of pigs". I will miss the brothers! Thankful you were successful in raising them and enjoying the process! Enjoy that bacon! Blessings.
i knew you would enjoy pigs. good for you! enjoy the fruits of your labor
You all are going to enjoy the pork so much, you are going to want to raise pigs again and again.
I think you raised a good breed of pigs they look really good.
I’m gonna miss the Bacon Brothers. I really enjoyed their journey. Thank you for sharing them with us.
So much anticipation!
Looking forward to the upcoming videos.
As a kid, I watched a lot of pigs grow-up from weiners to huge sows and boars. I did watch one killing, but it hurt me so much my parents refused to allow me to do so again. (lol) I think, that with time, one gets used to it. Raising them is so much fun. I've remembered those years with gratefulness and smiles all my life. Thank you, Paul and you too Uncle Ray, for allowing this silly little girl to work with your farm animals. Enjoy the bacon guys and remember to thank them for their service at those meals. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Stay safe.
I am so thankful for your diligence in sharing your experiences, in showing the positive and the negatives, in being so open and honest with your learnings. It makes it so easy for others to follow and do better for themselves.
I love the genuine alarm when it's time to close the pigs in, and the bucket confusion!
Those were some nice looking pigs good job folks
I will miss the adventures with the brothers. They were good pigs and I will miss them. Thank you for your kindness to the brothers..
Jason, the tension or yours and Lorraines face was priceless. I can literly feel the sigh of relief released from you two. What a great adventerous three months and a great learning experience. Yes, Your property would had been a mud pit if you kept those pigs an additional two months. So two pigs, three months seem like the idle time for all. Thnak you for taking us on this newbie pigs for all adventure. :)
Thanks Thomas!
When you treated your animals this kindly and they have become difficult to handle or trust, you made the right choice to have them processed now. They were bought to feed your family. What a good experience you had! Truly homesteaders in the making! So proud of you all.
My dad raised pigs for 20-30 yrs, I used to help him load 16-20 topped pigs all the time, it's never easy, even with cattle panels, I've seen top pigs turn around and walk on top of other pigs when loading them trying to get away. Biggest thing to learn, NEVER let them see the sun rising when loading. We had the sun lined up so it was rising in the morning and leaving the pens going into the loading chute, they saw the rising sun and FREAKED out. lol. Will never forget that. My dad would have totally loved your make shift pig parlor. Good job on your first batch of pigs. Wait until you put them out to pasture, our pigs escaped all the time, they love my uncle's yard, ofcourse He didn't love it lol. Keep up the good work!
We r going to miss The Brothers...you took good care of them...kudos to you👍👍👍
Awesome video!! I do think even Lorraine was liking them better at the end! Both of you are doing a great job for first timers!! Can't wait to see what your next adventure will be.
OMG, my heart was jumping with Lorraine, good job you both.
People subscribe it's very educational and fun.
Good bye to the brothers. Thanks for all the enjoyment you gave. Looking forward to the next lot of brothers coming or even sheep or something.
I'm watching while eating pork rinds.
Awesome video TQSM FOR sharing.. looking forward FOR MORE video.. Greetings from Montreal CANADA
Thank you for the video.
Congratulations on a job well done.
Your vlogs make me smile
Way to go. The 🐖 got big fast and they looked great. They had a good day everyday on your homestead. The best thing is how good they are going to taste. Great job, stay safe.
Congratulations! Great video! Small rancher/farmer in Texas with pigs now 3 months old. Planning ahead for them leaving our place in 3-4 months.
Enjoy your videos guys. Love the humbleness and caring nature y’all have!
I can't get over how far you've come in just a few years and how much inspiration and knowledge you are providing us with all your videos 👍❣️ your family is the best, Jason and Lorraine 🥰
Those are great looking pigs!
Keep the good stuff coming thanks
Yay for good neighbors!! Enjoy that bacon!
Good looking hogs ... all the best!
Congratulations! I love how real y'all are about homesteading. If you don't know, you say you don't know & you are willing to put yourselves out there & try. I'm really proud of you & your family!
Neighbor was the real MVP for helping out! earned his share of the pork! Lol
I have never seen a pig load that easy
🎉
Congratulations! Sow the Land Family. 👍🤗
thank you
Smart choices. Butchering large animals is lots of work, I’ve done, cattle, sheep and chickens. Lots of work and lots of equipment.
They were calm today. I was like the climb up to look out of the pen not problem getting in the truck. And sure enough no issue
"I just want to calm them down", sure i bet you were calming yourself down too, you a kind good man and showed your brothers love and appreciation,, good for you AND WE CANT WAIT TO SEE YOU HIT 100,000 you are almost there
Great job guys.
Keep up the good work
God bless you
Good job guys. It will get less stressful as you continue on your journey.
Nice job! Took us 5.5 hours to load 5 pigs our first go 'round. Enjoy the metaphorical fruits of your labor.
Great job! In no time you’ll be fearless around those piggies!
The bacon brothers are some of the well most behaved bacon nuggets I’ve ever seen!!! So adding bone broth to the bait slop pan!!! I forest/pasture raise 15-25 each year and have to round them all up & move them down lanes that cover nearly 180 acres...My Family an I butcher on the farm...My herd dogs help but the bone broth is going to make the Hog harvest immensely!! Thank y’all
Bitter sweet, bitter sweet. I feel you Jason and Lorraine, I feel you. The brothers were good boys in the end. It was fun to see flashback pics of them when they first came to your farm and other various shots of them during their lives there. You were so good to them. They had a good life. I shed a few tears, I must say. :-( But .... Am glad it was a good experience for your family.
Great job with the brothers!
Thanks for the inspiration!!
Congratulations 🎉👏 Y'all got em
I love your faith as it best for years have
Thank you for sharing. If I was closer I would want to buy meat for my freezer
Great job on your pig journey. Yes people visit this channel and hit the button and the bell.
I made a ramp so they could walk up without suspicion. Works great. Also bribed them up into the trailer with stale donuts. Also, you need to train them to the trailer ahead of time
You did a great job with your pigs ,they were really nice pigs 😊👍💕💕💕
I know what the next item on your wish-list should be, A Tractor dam they are so useful, especially 4WD ones , great to see the Pigs going of to the Processors, great job guys 😎👍👏
Hey! Great job guys! You did well. I wasnt sure the brothers were gonna jump right in, but they loaded up fine. I can testify that Berkshire pork is probably the most tasty of all the breeds of hogs. You will love it! Get more pigs! ;) .....Mark Anderson
Great neighbors are great
You have always talked to them. They really liked & trusted you guys. You're fantastic with your animals. Congrats
So long brothers, life’s been good!
