- By combining a Raspberry Pi Zero W (a tiny computer), Amazon's open-source Alexa Voice Service software, and a few other electrical components, I converted my normal Furby into a Furby Echo. I give you: Furlexa.

It's pretty cool that one motor did everything. There are other toys like that, too. Those toy makers were under so much pressure to make the toys cheap as possible, and they got pretty creative. And then at some point went crazy probably.
well, its a tiger electronics product so those designers and engineers went crazy long ago in the pursuit of cheapness

I'm one of those people. However, people who can do this stuff get to happily take advantage of our disability to work electronics lol. I commission lots of people to work on my electronics. Cody Cold you don't have to know how to work electronics. You just have to know how to surf RUclips and EBay. RUclips for the step-by-step tutorial and EBay for the spare parts. You can do the same with sewing and crafts. Never opened an Android before I cracked my S4 and ordered an EBay digitizer and followed instructions. Never made a plastic spoon flower til I saw it on Facebook and got a wild notion to do one just for kicks. LOL If you have the money to burn, more power to ya. But there is a certain satisfaction that comes with completing a project you do yourself.

That's require a completely new setup for the gears. There is a single motor that basically runs the entire mechanism on a loop, or opens/closes the eyes.

Definitely have it so the eyes open when it hears it's wake word and it listening and then it's mouth moves when it's speaking.
Really nice but for next time please turn of this darn anoying audio loop that is louder than everything else and makes it nearly impossible to focus on the furlexa voice...

Maybe if Furlexa version can really sound like Furby when answering the instructions or whatever the version will look so pretty awesome cool and cute.

This is honestly amazing! Having had a Furby as a young child, it'd be so cool to have one of these myself! One problem, I can't work with electronics ;-;.
"Furby turn off the lights" "Okay, *insert your name here*" You see the lights flicker off instantly. You then hear a faint sound of gears turning mixed in with robotic laughter you can barely make out as you drift off into sleep.
You should make the ears perk up when you say it's name so you know if it heard you

Cosmic Lightning I never had either of those problems with any of my Furbys. The only times they went upside down were when I held them that way and that's the only way I could get them to wake up. Creepiest thing that happened was, when the middle version (the one with the plastic feet and actual voice recognition) got low on batteries while I was playing with it, it stopped talking and its face went berserk. I was afraid it would explode if I didn't hit the off switch.

Idea: Extract one Furby eye and use it as a screen for a furby watch. Bezel should be made of leftover Furby fur.
This is great but I feel you should have sound proofed the mechanical parts so you could actually hear Alexa

You're not alone. Lots of toy collectors (some of which are bidding more than $200 at Internet auctions for the $30-list-price Furby) thinks so. So does Gremlins producer Warner Bros., which recently sued Hasbro for trademark infringement.
This makes me wanna learn more about technology and electronics. I wanna mess around with that kind of stuff as well. All the possibilities 💲

Moving Parts Gaming for something that was made in 1998, that was not much of a huge problem. R.O.B the Robot was louder than this, even though that was made 1985.
This video is amazing. If I’m going to do this, I want to modify the motor to only move his mouth to make it more realistic although I would lose out on the eyes and ears moving when Alexa is triggered for a few seconds.
Good call! You can definitely do that with some clever programming and either a) swapping out the stock DC motor for a stepper motor, or b) using the cam position sensor to determine where the gearbox currently is.Totally possible, but would've taken more time than I had (especially after how much time I already spent on it).
