Acutally at 4:18 is the best example the studio setup sounds a bit more muffled than the iPhone audio (who singles out your voice) After you adding the mic it even sounds way better than the studio setup.

I like the concept and core but phones have better mics than most DSLR cameras..you add a mic to a DSLR camera to get a decent sound,Phones are optimized for recording audio. that's why your example did not work too well you should have taken the phone outside in a windy scenario. You add a mic to get wind protection or get you the mic closer to the person. If you want good Audio use a Smartphone as audio recorder. A Zoom h1 or any other audio recorder will give you just convenient controls with old technologies vs no real controls but high-end technologies. Here an example the iPhone 11 will boost and singles out your voice talking in the distance and makes background noises quieter that are closer to the phone. (no audio recorder can do that). Smartphone up game is a 90$ phone gimble and mic for wind protection.

It’s important to have different perspectives. Personally, when I was in auto sales, I used my Joby 90-95% more than my DJI Osmo phone gimbal. Phone mics have gotten better- still wont replace a good shotgun, but have gotten much better.

if you compare your test acutally Studio the iphone has a crisper and more clear sound to it. After you add the shotgun mic its even better. All I was saying is Phones preamps are way better than most people know. I did the test. Compare your Camera ( no mic ) vs Phone in a room and you will be suprised
