Thank you for sharing! I’ve referenced your video countless times as I prepare my itinerary. I’ve also practiced the ticket buying process to familiarize myself with the website 😂 haha I’m training for ticket buying battle.
But I actually had a question. We’ll also be getting off at Okayama. I know it arrives early in the morning. What did you do in the meantime? Since most of the shops/museums I’m interested in visiting don’t open till 10am

My pleasure and all the best on that! 😍 If you’re planning to buy a shower card - that’s another battle btw. So another tip: enter through the train car where the shower card vendo is and buy a card first before going to the car where your berth is.
At Okayama, we had to catch the shinkansen bound for Hiroshima so we didnt get the chance to go around the place. But I’ve read about the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, which is a well-preserved merchant area that existed during the Edo period. From Okayama Station, ride the Sanyo Line all the way to JR Kurashiki Sta and the place is a 10min walk from there.
The nearby museums or shops may not open until 9/10am but just taking a stroll along the canal would be a wonderful experience I think - www.kurashiki-tabi.jp/for/en/bikan.html

Is there an advantage to booking a private room if you have a JR pass vs no JR pass?

Hi! There seems to be no difference-it’s really on a first come-first served basis. There’s no difference on the price as well based on my research.
