Hello, I'm a 57 year old BTS ARMY (fanbase), since 2020.
    *Who is BTS?*
BTS = *B* ang *T* an *S* onyeondan = Korean for Bullet Proof Boy Scouts or Bangtan Boys. In an interview, band member J-Hope (rapper that opened the song, and also wore red outfit) revealed, “BTS has a profound meaning. ‘Bangtan’ means to be resistant to bullets, so it means to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim at adolescents like bullets, to preserve the values and ideal of today’s adolescents.” They are a seven member group that consists of 3 rappers, 4 vocalists, and they can all dance, rap, and sing. They are multi-talented artists that have become a Global Supergroup, paving the way for other K-POP Artists to have a platform in the Global music market.
    *BTS and their company*
BTS debuted in South Korea as a HIP HOP IDOL Group on June 13, 2013, from a small, independent, start up company - Big Hit Entertainment. Because of BTS's success, the company grew and eventually split off into two companies. HYBE Labels Corp. - which is their business side, and parent company, and BIG HIT MUSIC (subsidiary of HYBE) - which is BTS's label and music production company. Big Hit Music has three main artists - BTS, TXT, and Lee Hyun (solo singer). BTS has an amazing underdog story, just like their company, and they both grew together.
    *BTS's Music*
From the beginning, BTS's CEO gave them artistic freedom to create their own sound and to write and produce their own music. They were young when they signed on as trainees for Big Hit Ent. from 2010 to 2012, and they debuted in 2013 at the ages of 15 (Jungkook) to 20 (SUGA and JIN). Their CEO Bang Si-Hyuk, was like a mentor, big brother, father figure to them, and he and his production team guided them on their journey to becoming a cohesive group of seven artists. Their music started out as mostly HIP HOP and R&B styles, and that is their core and their roots. They are students of music and HIP HOP, As they grew as artists, their sound evolved and changed, and they started incorporating other genre's of music and experimenting with new sounds. BTS are known for crossing and fusing different genre's of music And they are not afraid to experiment with their sound and share their feelings or stories in their music. They are also known for covering controversial topics that aren't usually covered in K-POP. Like mental health, self love, social justice, societal expectation, etc.
    *Wrap Up*
I hope the information I provided helps you to understand who BTS are a little better. For a more in depth understanding, if you are going to be continuing to react to BTS, I highly recommend an introduction video. Thanks for the reaction.
*Here are three guides that are all well put together*
I highly recommend Taylor's guide and then Boracity Magazine. Also a good one is Rice Squad, for their chronological story with their discography and accomplishments, but I think they leave a lot of information out, so I recommend the other two first. Taylors guide will give you a look each individual member, a summary of their accomplishments and story, and their relationship with their fanbase. The Boracity Magazine is an in depth look at their journey through their discography, from pre-debut of their chapter 1, and my favorite out ot the three. (Chapter 1 is their journey up until they went on a group break to do solo projects and mandatory military service. That is called chapter 2, and it started after their Anthology album release mid- 2022. They will be coming back together in 2025, as their new contract has been renewed with their agency Big Hit/HYBE.

The very definition of “living in each other’s pockets”. They show strong sibling energy and are often playful and openly affectionate.

BTS is the ultimate underdog story IRL. Two of the rappers came out of the underground rap scene, another belonged to a street dance crew, etc... In 2014 they came to LA and worked with OG rappers Coolio and Warren G. They cover all genres of music, so we never know what to expect when they make a new comeback, but we know it's gonna be good.
Right now they are all in the Korean military (it's mandatory for all males) and they will be back together in 2025. 💜

    Thanks for your wonderful reaction.
They are the biggest band in the world.
    Here an overview about BTS:
BTS (in Korean "Bangtan Sonyeondan" means Bulletproof Boyscouts) consists of three rappers and four vocalists. All seven of them are excellent dancers.
Here is the list of their names:
    RM - leader, main rapper
    Jin - visual, vocals
    SUGA - lead rapper
Jhope - dance leader, main dancer, rapper
Jimin - main dancer, lead vocals
    V - visual, vocals
JK - main vocals, lead dancer
They do a wide variety of music, but basically they are rooted in hip-hop.
All seven members participate in making their songs by writing, composing, and producing them.
BTS started with a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom. So they have struggled from the beginning to prove themselves.
Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance, these three songs were released in English to give positive energy to people around the world during the pandemic caused by Covid-19.
Most of their songs are in Korean, and their music video provides subtitles in several languages, including English. (Please turn on the subtitles while watching)
If you're interested in BTS's songs, here is a list of them:
    Fake Love
    FIRE
    DNA
The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative. BTS are famous for their deep and meaningful lyrics. They have written almost 95% of their songs from their discography.
BTS offers a wide range of genres when it comes to their music. As a group they are explosive but they are also individually amazing in their different style of music. They make a wide variety of genres of music like Hip-hop, Ballad, R&B, pop, EDM, etc. I'm sure there are quite a few of their over 300 songs that suit your taste. :) They have numerous world records to their names.
Another song I recommend is "Run BTS". Their is no official MV for this one, they have a dance practice video and their live performance from their free Busan concert.
Lastly, I think this video is the best to understand each BTS member. ;)

BTS is the biggest group in the world, and by far the biggest thing ever to come out of S Korea. They are bigger than the whole rest of the KPop industry combined. They literally brought in as much money with a single concert as the Pyongyang Winter Olympics in S Korea did. They came up against incredible odds as the ultimate underdogs on a tiny indie label that prized artistic freedom and integrity and the artist's voice, pitted against a corrupt S Korean and global music industry.
They were essentially the only artists at their label and now it's the biggest one in S Korea, all built on their blood, sweat and tears the last 11 years. Yet they remain the most grounded, humble, kind, fun (and funny), sweet, loving and dedicated artists, in love with one another as a family and with their fanbase, ARMY. Like seriously, seriously devoted to ARMY. They love us as much as we love them, and regularly get emotional about it.
All their music is storytelling and all their albums are concept albums. They are definitely a thinking person's band, with the depth of their storytelling. You can enjoy the music on a surface level, because it's just damned good, or delve deeper into the stories. The lyrics are storytelling. The music video visuals are storytelling. Their choreography is storytelling. Even their song structures contribute to the storytelling. They tell stories on each track that are in line with the themes of concept albums, as well as another layer that is their personal stories, and a further layer that are universal stories everyone can relate to. Some of their music also tells additional stories related to the BU (The Bangtan Universe) which is the supernatural psychological mystery that runs through multiple albums and also has clues revealed slowly in other multimedia like books, their webtoons, MVs, short films, their mobile game BTS World, album notes, and other places. There is a KDrama in post-production based on the BU now as well. In the BU, all the guys play fictional characters of their same name, and deal with a lot of relatable and serious issues like poverty, domestic abuse, mental and physical health challenges, etc.
They cover many genres such as Rap, Hip Hop, Pop, R&B, Jazz, Neo soul, Rock, Pop Rock, Latin Pop, EDM, Synth Dance, Ballads, and more. They address subjects such as mental health, socio-economic and socio-political issues, current events, grief, loss, loneliness and alienation, generational conflicts, love in all it's phases and types from romantic and fated to toxic and broken to familial and self, personal stories and more, and they draw inspiration from sources including psychology, philosophy, literature, classic and fine visual arts, history, science, multiple cultures both modern and ancient, religions and mythos, and more. All this wrapped up in some of the best performers, dancers, singers, rappers, songwriters, producers and composers in the industry.
Their scope and range are seriously like nothing you have ever seen before, because it's like nothing that's been done before. They are more than a once in a lifetime group. They are more like a once in forever group. I doubt we will ever see their like again. They get compared to the Beatles, just in scope and scale because there is no one else that comes close, and indeed they have already broken some of the Beatles records. But really, they are very different and also don't have the benefit of being white, English-speaking guys from the west with a western label.
I hope you have a great time exploring their discography. They have hundreds and hundreds of songs. They have released 20 albums as a group, 11 solo albums among various members, plus many other collabs, OSTs, singles and unofficial releases in the last 11 years. They are the hardest working group in the business. No matter what you like, they are likely to have something that appeals to you. And if, like me, you like many genres, then they have a LOT you will love. It's just damned good music.
They are currently all serving their mandatory military service in S Korea and we expect a comeback in 2025 - which is going to be INSANE....because ARMY is legion. We are in many, many countries all over the globe. They have 76 million followers just on Spotify alone. They sell out the biggest stadiums in the world, everywhere in the world, in minutes.
    Welcome!

You're actually spot on in your assessment of them: Legit, inclusive and brotherly.
They started with two underground rappers and a street dancer topped with a vocal line that more or less started singing from scratch. They're the ultimate rags to riches story which has not only brought them really close together but also made them stay super humble and inclusive all the way. They're about the music, not the genre, so between them you'll find anything from neosoul to battle style rap. And as a bonus they're funny AF as well. 🤣 Take a chance on them - you won't be disappointed! Try Black Swan or Airplane pt 2 for something completely different from the whole group.

Fun fact time: Mic Drop was inspired by former President Obama's mic drop when he left office and while it might come off as cocky in terms of bragging you kind of need to know their story. These boys debuted in 2013, the youngest was ONLY 15, from a small company in Korea which didn't have any influence to help promote them like the big 3 did. Those companies are JYP, YG and SM who had a lot of media control and groups under those labels had the funding plus company names to make them big. BTS struggled A LOT and the sheer amount of hate thrown at them, which still is an ongoing issue, would make you sick. Mic Drop is their way of saying that they made it on their own merit, through years of hard work along with support from their fanbase known as ARMY, and that those haters can basically go piss off since they aren't worth the effort to acknowledge. The group has 3 rappers with 2 of them coming from the underground scene in Korea and 4 vocalists. Currently all 7 are serving their mandatory military enlistment with the full group planning to unite as 7 in 2025. Thankfully we'll get the oldest member Jin back in about 4 months with j-hope returning around September.
Edit: I couldn't help but add that BTS and their hard work has grown their small company into HYBE, formerly Big Hit Entertainment, which is now bigger than ALL 3 of those big companies. They did this as a single group up until 2019 when another boy group debuted under Big Hit.

i'm not a fan of BlackPink, though of course they are talented and driven.
However, compared to BP, who had a massive amount of finance behind them and great promotion from their company,
Thank you for exploring BTS - I enjoyed your reaction and your appreciation: it is fair to say though that you cannot be expected to know yet just how different BTS are. We all have to start somewhere, so I hope you continue to enjoy...
BTS are self made. Their company, Big Hit, had 20 staff when they started and were near bankruptcy at least once, on one occasion actually sending them home due to lack of funds (the rappers refused to go and somehow they got funds from somewhere - likely friends in the business). They debuted in 2013 as the only group under BH, and faced an enormous amount of abuse in Korea, plus xenophobia death threats around the world too.
in January 2020 BH rebranded as Hybe which is now the largest entertainment company in Korea. The BTS members were awarded shares as part of that launch - quite rightly, because Hybe was possible only through the work of BTS and the staff working with them.Artistically, BTS were one of the first idol groups to be as heavily involved with production as they are - up until them, most idols were given acts to perform and had little say - which I suspect was pretty frustrting. After BTS, things changed quite a bit, and many younger groups acknowledge that BTS paved the way for them not only in the west but also to some extent in Korea.
There are documentaries with information about idol groups. There must be one for BP, but for BTS I recommend, Introduction to BTS; the Bangtan 7 by the serendipitous Taylor Mari. This takes you to May 2022 : since then there have been multiple solo songs and albums, concerts and all are now enlisted for their mandatory military service and will all be back in 2025.
BTS stands for Bangtan Seonyeondan, pronounced Bangtan Sonyondan (Korean transliteration can be confusing) and that means Bulletproof Boyscouts. BTS aim since before debut was always to stand up for young people. Older Koreans can be viciously critical of young people and very demanding, so that criticism, demands, and complaints rain down on young people like bullets, and BTS want to stand in front of them and protect them. The 'feel' of their music has obviously matured in 10 years, but the underlying ethos remains the same. They modified the 'meaning' of BTS a few years ago to Bayond the Scene, but it has not lasted long - I find it unnecessary and meaningless.
I could give you a list of songs from their playlists of more than 350, but won;t. Others have already offered some. Now, when you pick another to play, it may be completely different from this, so you may be surprised. Get used to it. They offer all sorts of genres, and cover a myriad of subjects, nearly always deep and sometimes tough. Much tougher then BP - and perhaps deeper than any other idol group - though I think others are also now exploring more deeply.
Also just as a heads up - with BTS there is almost nothing that is unconsidered or is not deep. Many things have at least two meanings if not more. Many songs are coplex, using wordplay crossing between Korean and English (or Japanese), plus cultural and historical references that we can not know. So for many there are fan-made 'explanation' videos which are invaluable.
fyi Mic Drop is a response to the hate BTS commonly (still) get, trying to put them down and minimised their skill, talent, hard work, and achievements. Most of it is fairly transparent, but when you've heard it so many times, sometimes you miss things that are no onvious to newcommers.
BTS music is invariably fun, often hilarious, but usually has more than one thing gong on. MVs can be a complex drama, and some cover painful trauma. Add to that the plethora of other media, game shows, travel films, Vlogs and Vlives with fans ....

@@TEEJ-9 You are in for a treat! The rappers excel at wordplay, especially RM, and almost every song they make can be interpreted in multiple ways. The guys release explanations of what the songs mean *to them* but they also urge the listener to interpret them in any way that's meaningful. 'Fake Love', for example, can refer to someone facing the fact that the relationship they thought they had was built on falsity, but it can also be seen as someone confronting the fact that they themself have been 'wearing a mask', hiding their real selves from the world. 'Danger', on the surface, is a guy telling his girlfriend to stop messing around with his emotions and playing head-games, but underneath it's a rather bitter rant at the music shows and television programs that called them in when an extra act or backup dancers were needed, then ignored them or cut their performances when they were supposed to perform as scheduled.
Some of their songs require explanations from Korean-speakers to get all the cultural references and shades of meaning; you'll find some good explanation vids here on YT. And some just require more explanation because they weave back to earlier references. You can find a lot of interpretation sites, but Doolset is one of the best, and Genius Lyrics has a lot of input from long-time fans. There are also a lot of visual clues and Easter eggs in music videos; we're not called 'eagle-eyed ARMY' for nothing. But don't worry too much about that yet; it takes time to get used to watching the MV and reading the subs AND catching all the background details.
Oh, and don't rely on hair color or hairstyle to tell them apart. Hair color and style are more indicators of which album they were promoting/performing than anything else! Mic color and singing/rapping voice are the best way I've found to learn them. They all have very distinctive voices, a nice rarity for a music group.

Yes, they will always be titled Bangtan Sonyeondan, even the 7 guys, Hybe, media, journalists, award shows, fans, non-fans & even haters will always say the original & only name of the band. It will always mean Bulletproof Boyscouts, because they are a military concept & theme from the very start when Bang PD put the music concept on paper around 2009. Once they return from conscription, assuming everything goes perfectly, they may become the only modern band in global history that will be both fictional & non-fictional military, unless you count marching bands in general. And they will now be part of 2 armies instead of just 1 as before. Big Time Soldiers 2025.

You should check it out. Every Army (fan of BTS) has seen this documentary. It shows what they achieved, how they became big, who the members are and it shows a glimse of their work. By the way, they all have solo peojects next to BTS. All members of BTS are currently serving in the military. It's mandatory in South Korea. They have to enlist for 18 months. They will be reunited in June 2025 to continue their activities. Don't you worry, there's enough content to keep you busy for years. Another thing, every BTS song has a deeper meaning. The lyrics are not just lyrics but the must be analysed. Most of the songs, if not all of the video's even have explanation video's.

They weren't always treated kindly so they make an effort to treat others well and make sure no one feels left out or ignored around them. V is very smooth R&B vibes - my favorite is Slow Dancing.

FYI the story is black, pink debuted in 2016 in 2023 their seven-year contract with YG entertainment expired story is 2 members re-signed with the label two members left one member is starting her own music label. He's Kim Namjoon, the leader of the supergroup, BTS. He's a rapper, producer, songwriter, poet, and a literal genius with an IQ of 148. He's fluent in 3 languages and taught himself English by watching the show Friends. He's given speeches at the UN and the White House.

BTS are the biggest group in the world. Their numbers overshadow the entirety of kpop combined. What sets BTS apart is their diverse discography and artistic integrity. They write, produce, and compose a lot of their music, and are involved with every element of the creation process. This is an anomaly in kpop for the last decade or so, where most groups are strictly manufactured and have no involvement in the songs beyond being mouthpieces. Since rappers who don't write their lyrics aren't real rappers, it was especially important for the 3 rappers of BTS to represent hip hop and rap genuinely and write their own lyrics. Again, groups you reacted to before aren't like this and those groups have their lyrics written for them, and it shows because there's very little care given to good writing for those groups. BTS' leader has talked about the movement in the industry where many listeners don't pay attention to lyrics, but he feels it's important. BTS has proven you can have silly songs just meant to blast in the car to enjoy the sound, but it is not mutually exclusive with also having songs with great depth and meaning. BTS also has some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. You can't go wrong.
Since BTS' rise, some groups have demonstrated their involvement with the creation of the music. If this is BTS' success sending a message to companies to let other idols have a say or just coincidence, IDK. BTS wasn't exclusively the group to write songs, but inarguably the most involved and most prolific. Mamamoo, Stray Kids, G-idle come to mind as other groups who are involved in their own music.

Our precious talented dorks debuted in 2013 so you definitely got a long way to go on their massive discography! What music genre or mood are you in? ARMYs can totally make some suggestions. Aside from their group projects, they also have solo projects, unit projects, collaborations etc...many many layers of absolute masterpieces. Keep in mind that their roots are in hip hop, but as they've evolved as Artists , they've dabbled with many sounds. Welcome to BTS x HYBE x ARMY global family. 💜
Btw...."Mic Drop" was inspired by a speech from former president Barack Obama. Dude with the white background that you asked about...that's our precious President Kim Namjoon aka RM. He's the writer/rapper/Composer who was inspired by Obama's speech. Our dude is a poet. All 7 members of BTS are extremely versatile in their crafts...their art...their music. 💜🎶

The list of songs by individual members are their newer stuff. Jin was not mentioned ...he has a contemporary rock style (songs Ephiphany, Abyss, Astronaut). Suga has the largest discography (songs: Daechwita, Shadow Interlude, Amygdala, Snooze, Haegum, D-Day, Agust-D, Set Me Fre Pt1, People, etc etc...) and is one of BTS's main producers (won an award and all). Nice to see a new reactor (not a nuclear reactor 😂) ok bad joke. Will subscribe. Later!!

I have a good opinion on all the members but to help you recognize them individually i'll share time stamps of each one in the song. The member @ 1:56 who you mention at the end is in all red is J-hope. He has a lot of positive energy that I feel that translates through his songs as well. The member at 2:46 is Suga, my bias, for many reasons that I could go on a tangent but one of them is his vulnerability in his lyrics that have helped people such as myself relate and understand more about the topics he raps about. The member at 3:38 is Jimin. He is a contemporary dancer and has a cute persona which may not always be considered a compliment but I very much enjoy that part of his personality. The guy @ 4:34 by now you know from all the comments is RM. He is the leader for a reason despite not being the oldest. He has an IQ 148, fluent in English, and has the respect of all other members. The member at 4:57 you are referring to is Jungkook the youngest in the group but a chameleon in talent. The member that joins him after is V he has a sultry voice amd I could listen to his layover album all day and not get sick of it lol. The guy at 5:14 is Jin. He is the oldest and normally would have to be addressed differently by all other members according to Korean customs but he forego's that option and has a friendly personality.

I love to see reactions from people who are not from the fas army group because it helps to eliminate the stereotype that our bulletproof boys (BTS) are effeminate boys, without testosterone, who sing cool rhymes and who do little dances. BTS is beyond that and giving them a chance means overcoming numerous barriers of different sizes and shapes.
Thank you for your honest really to the music video Mic Drop ❤

BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) definition Bulletproof Boy Scouts in English. BTS consists of 4 vocalists and 3 rappers. The rappers are: RM (Rap Monster) he's the leader, Suga, and JHope. 4 vocalists: Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, and V. They have amazing choreographies which are always on point, they also write and produce their songs as well. You have a long way to go for BTS reactions LOL, this is just the beginning of a long list of outstanding and hit songs. Thanks for this reaction look forward to more BTS from you. Wait until you get to know them from their shows and interviews, they’re just crazy, too funny, you cannot help but love them, their down to earth and kind nature. The most humble and sincere group of global superstars. They are huge around the world organically, not because they had a power team behind them spending money to get attention, THEY are the power, no fake stuff behind their success. No other artists organically grew to that level of stardom, especially in the US where it’s basically a pay to play system. Know the right people, sell enough of yourself, to get to the top.
