  • This video demonstrates a novel Anti-kick device called the Tail Jack! The tail jack works by utilizing the age old theory "by lifting a cows tail high enough they are unable to kick". Tail Jack is a company based in Ireland and has won innovative and safety awards for their invention. We are proud to have been chosen to help test the new “mini” prototype and demonstrate the use of the Tail Jack for Small breed cattle!

    About Sweet Briar Farm
We are a small farm located in Central/Northern Michigan. We farm every inch of our 6 acres. We breed Registered Dairy Goats, Dexter Cattle, and Heritage Hogs. Clean healthy food is important to us and we like to produce the majority of our food on the farm and we grow and raise enough to sell to local customers. Producing our own food also means we forage for wild edibles such as mushrooms and tap our maple trees in the spring to make maple syrup. In 2019 we added honeybees to the farm and have had as many as 30 active hives producing honey for us.
Our goats include Nubian goats, Mini Nubians, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.

Super product. We used it here this spring and had no issue whatsoever in the milking parlour. By far the best and safest piece of equipment we have tried so far. After a few milkings the heifers didn't even know it was on and after a couple of days didn't have to use it. Normally someone would have to climb the rail and hold a tail up. Not the most comfortable for man or beast. Since we got the tail jack only one person needed in the parlour and no stress. One you used it a couple times it only takes seconds to apply or remove. Top product well recommend.

Hi guys great channel, love Dexter cattle . I see you have them in a lead , if you stand beside their head with the lead short it makes it easier. It's about head control, works on goats 🐐 as well.

You might be referring to the end of the video. We were walking by a pen with two other cows so she was posturing to show them she was boss.

Great practise for Jolene, remembering that humans touching the udder is ok😊 And great for you to get familiar with the device well in advance of calving season.
I hope you try the device a couple times on all your girls you are planning to try milking before they calve. Calving is quite stressful so having seen/felt/heard the milky devices beforehand makes things a lot easier. You definitely saw that with Jolene's reaction to the milking machine sound last time😅 If the goats are machine milked, could be a good idea to have prospective milk cows have a turn in the cow stanchion simply listening to the goat milking sounds "in peace" so it's not an unfamiliar sound.
My workplace dairy moves heifers to the cow side ~month before calving, plenty time to push them through the parlour on good relaxed days (both for humans and for themself) for the first few times. They will have moved through all the gates, heard all the bangs/squeaks/swooshes, felt the post-milking "teat dip" spray all before they actually need to be milked regularly twice daily EVERY day🐂🐄🐂🐃🐄🐂

That’s a great idea! I hadn’t considered having the heifers around while milking the goats.
