Rob, Great explanation about the differences in handling based on motorcycle geometry. I have had every kind of motorcycles in my classes. When people tell me their motorcycle isn’t capable of doing the exercises, I tell them it can. Of course the very next question is if I can ride their motorcycle through the course. I tell them I can and after I do, they see it is about them and not the motorcycle. The good news is they can learn how to do it if they will be committed to learn the proper techniques.
Thank you very much! Absolutely! We are very visual creatures. I’ve had to do the same thing. Whatever builds confidence, we will be happy to oblige. Appreciate you! Keep doing what your doing! 👍🏾
I’ve never practiced on anything but a 2008 Dyna Low Rider which has the same overall length as this bike. The rake is 29 degrees compared to 34 on this bike but more than a 26 degree rake on a bagger. The handle bars don’t turn very far and a wider tire is on the back. My controls are mid which work great because I’m shorter. I’m able to do 18’ consistently to the left and about 18-22’ to the right. You mentioned on one of your older videos to keep it preloaded but pull the clutch in at start of turn which helps a lot in getting the bars to turn quicker. It is nice to learn, from this video, why it was frustrating and seemed to take so long to master on my type of bike compared to a bagger. No one else has a video on this style of bike. Thanks!

Developing good habits through practicing proper technique. I have less than 2000 miles riding and I can tell you, Robert, I hear you saying," Keep it loaded, rear brake only." when I get her down to 10-15mph. Every time I have to come to a stop, then go again, or crawling in slow traffic, I do this exercise and challenge myself to do it better than the time before. Add good positioning for escape and watching your six while staying in 1st gear, that's my practice every time I get on the bike at a minimum. I still have a ways to go on the rest, but the way you express clutch, throttle, and brake use, is the best and most understandable way of doing it and it really has stuck with me. Took a test ride on a 2023 Road King Special last Sat. and man, I caught myself slightly dipper her left while stopping and everything you said here I had running though my head, a little slip in that left foot and down you go with 803lbs of bike pulling you to the ground. Not used to floorboards and forward controls, but man that Road King Special is super smooth and comfortable and that 114 can really boogie with all that low rpm torque. That said, I'd never take one of those or any bike out on the road before going through all the low speed exercises for a few minutes to gauge the proper feel and response of the motorcycle first. I ran her in the back lot on the HD BRC course for a few minutes first, then around the block. I left with the knowledge that I could become very comfortable on that bike only through lots of practice doing what you teach on that bike. Thanks for the lesson I learned on my first bagger ride, kept me from getting hurt and at the same time I do not fear that 803lb machine and know I can end up enjoying one of those safely for a lifetime.

Hey Robert, since you have a Breakout 117 I thought I would ask if you know of any mid control kits for it? Im struggling to find any. I thought I would get used to the forwards and I have but I really just don't like them. I've always felt more in control with mids and I prefer the stance much more. Also, I dont like the foot brake position on forwards and prefer them more flat and parallel with the peg position on mids. Any mid control kits you know of for the Breakout 117?
I’m really curious how this compares to a Vulcan 900 custom. I currently have a Vulcan 900 C and really thinking about trading it in on a breakout. Dimensionally they are very very similar
The breakout looks good and is meant to go fast in a straight line. I would not take this bike on a long distance trip and it is definitely not meant for twisties or aggressive riding.

@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle ok I’m 6’3 and I went to Harley dealership of Savannah to get the breakout and I just don’t fit on it but you do.. I think I have longer legs
I've always felt that bikes for these courses should be old police bikes, provided. I wouldn't want to scratch and scrape my own bike bike's paint should it go down.
Easiest bike I’ve ever ridden,It’s like riding a hot rod early 70 Honda 305 scrambler I can scrape my pegs off, I am an old man a little weak that’s why I traded my 18 Sgs for this so with this and my 02 FXDWG Custom I can rip it around in nearly any terrain 😊

I'm so sorry, I hate to be the one to say this, I have watched many of your videos and all are very informative and I thank you for putting this information out there but in my humble opinion they are just to darn long. Most over an hour. Don't get me wrong they are getting shorter, this one for instance is 18 mins long, however you didnt start the bike for 14 of those 18 mins. People with the best of intentions won't watch long videos, or shorter ones that is all talk less action. Again it's not intention to be mean, anyone trying to makes us better riders and for free is A OK in my book. Just an observation
Yeah it is what it is I just skip forward to the riding part most of the time now, I appreciate everything mr simmons is doing for fellow riders, but the intros are too long and redundant, so just fast forward to the part you want no biggie , nothing but love
People who want to learn something and enjoy the person teaching it, will watch a long video. Maybe not at one time, but they know the value in watching it in its entirety and will make the necessary time to do so.
Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RUclips channel!👍🏾😊 And I appreciate the feedback brother. I don’t take that as being mean at all. Many don’t know this but I call my sessions Advanced not just for the skills involved, but also the level of dedication to learning. If someone watches an hour long video that’s teaching them something, that’s an hour invested in themselves. Not everyone will be Advanced. Preloaders are!!!
Sorry mate, but for me,you talk too much. "That being said" 😉 the content is excellent ,and I did eventually persevere, because I own a 2016 FXSB. I downloaded the entire series ,and watched them at my leisure
It’s an educational video which requires dialogue. The dialogue is often the most important part with the riding being an aid. The biggest part of learning is understanding what you are seeing and how it all comes together. Easy for some, complicated for most.
My 2017 with a rake of 37° is perfect. No problems at all. Problem is that many people will look or come up to you about your bike. That I don't care for. Handles just as good if not better than my StreetGlide.
Thanks

Wet blind curves on a hot sunny day because somebody was washing their car
Bumble bees hit stinger first so always wear some form of face shield
Road paint is slick as hell and deadly when wet
Careful with the front brake at intersections because that’s where cars drip most of their oil
Anything that moves can kill you and that includes dogs, cats, birds, and blowing debris
Stop signs and stoplights will not protect you even a little bit
9 out of 10 drivers can’t see you and the tenth one is trying to kill you… Ride accordingly
Any loose material on the pavement is dangerous… make sure you’re not turning when you hit it
Dump trucks… even covered ones… Will sandblast you and your bike
What’s going on behind you is as important as what’s happening in front of you

Hell ya, I can feel that bike through the subwoofer big time!! Awesome!!
That cover the rear brake ..
I find myself with light pressure on it while sitting at a light ..as if ready to head into the step 4.. don’t even think about it
Your so right about those steps just become second nature
Absolutely brother!
Excellent video Robert. Can't wait for the next video.

I pass my Permit test using my Breakout 2023, same color by the way... sadly I didn't pass my endorsement test..in the 8 maneuver I was one second slow.. BK is a great motorcycle...Liked and subscribed. 👍
Nice! Thank you for watching and subscribing to my RUclips channel!👍🏾😁
Rob,
Great explanation about the differences in handling based on motorcycle geometry.
Thanks as always Rob, looking forward to the rest of the series.

My Kawi 900 Custom is the same style as your breakout so this is good videos for me.
Good to hear!
Thanks!
It’s my pleasure. 😊 Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RUclips channel!👍🏾😊 ruclips.net/user/BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle

That is a great looking bike.
Good informative video, just remember folks a motorcycle is a motorcycle, is a motorcycle. Regardless of the model or make, these concepts in the following series apply to all.
Thanks brother! Absolutely!!
Thank you Robert good information is always looking forward to practice in with you. Hope you have a great week

She is a sexy machine! I have been looking for a 23 breakout since you did these videos. Not a one in central Florida. We only have about twenty dealerships within a 100 miles. Love what you do!
Thanks. I just traded mine it if you’re still looking for one.

Robert, great vidio, I have 2018 Fatty, FLFBS , great bike, made into a bar hopper, 14in. Meathooks, wide open Blow exhaust , other custom, parts, basically a tire burner, Fatty corners real good , floarboard dragger,😎 Just sold 012 Kaw zx14r Ninja, got too old 66, , had for 7 years, , fun bike, but 200 hp, 200 mph bike, little crazy on the street,☠

Really good info Robert. Thanks

Knowing you are going to be showing how to doing slow speed on the breakout give's me the conference i need to pull the trigger on a breakout. I have a 2021 Bronze armor Road Glide its snowing here today so i wont be practicing lol.

Change under 20 to under 10 regarding the rear brake.

Yes handlebars effect handling.
Have you done the bars yet?
Hey Robert, since you have a Breakout 117 I thought I would ask if you know of any mid control kits for it? Im struggling to find any. I thought I would get used to the forwards and I have but I really just don't like them. I've always felt more in control with mids and I prefer the stance much more. Also, I dont like the foot brake position on forwards and prefer them more flat and parallel with the peg position on mids. Any mid control kits you know of for the Breakout 117?
Hey. Sorry I don’t.

I’m really curious how this compares to a Vulcan 900 custom. I currently have a Vulcan 900 C and really thinking about trading it in on a breakout. Dimensionally they are very very similar

Check out Practice Session #3.
Lt., how much riding experience did you have before you took the motor officer class?✌🏽
ZERO!!! They taught me everything I know.
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle That's encouraging. It's good to know that someone can learn to be "a boss" from scratch.👍🏽✌🏽
Good video. Refreshing to see you using a Breakout instead of a bagger.
Thank you very much!
Are you going to put guards on the bike,?
And a windshield.
Guards yes. Windshield no.
Would you ok this as a beginner bike my friend?
Probably not.
The breakout looks good and is meant to go fast in a straight line. I would not take this bike on a long distance trip and it is definitely not meant for twisties or aggressive riding.

So, the take away is that a Harley might be a viable bike if you work hard enough at it?
That holds true for any motorcycle.
Yeah man I need to practice slow turning for me, is not to comfortable
Thank you for watching and hopefully you’re subscribed to my RUclips channel!👍🏾😊 It will come if you practice these steps and be patient with yourself.
Ya but can you do all that on a bagger?
Of course! You can do it on every motorcycle. Definitely subscribe to the channel.
How tall are you
6’1”
@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle ok I’m 6’3 and I went to Harley dealership of Savannah to get the breakout and I just don’t fit on it but you do.. I think I have longer legs
I've always felt that bikes for these courses should be old police bikes, provided. I wouldn't want to scratch and scrape my own bike bike's paint should it go down.
I understand, but as long as the bike has guards, it’s protected.
Btw I really enjoy your content brother your doing good work and Paladeno also,Most riders are never become professionals like us 😊

@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle My pleasure, When I saw your saddleman seat I fell in love I tried to locate a saddleman & couldn't, I found a gel leather over plastic in the orange stitching &s you already know no comparison the factory seat on these looked good but intolerable, You know so many people those with our bike tell them CC Rider makes the seat to match several Harley colors, Have a great day.

Ssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh
Yeah it is what it is I just skip forward to the riding part most of the time now, I appreciate everything mr simmons is doing for fellow riders, but the intros are too long and redundant, so just fast forward to the part you want no biggie , nothing but love
People who want to learn something and enjoy the person teaching it, will watch a long video. Maybe not at one time, but they know the value in watching it in its entirety and will make the necessary time to do so.
@@6doorseventy4 Fully agree and well said.
I know it's going to be a long video when you start out sitting in a chair. The video is 18 mins and you didn't start riding till min 15.
It’s an educational video which requires dialogue. The dialogue is often the most important part with the riding being an aid. The biggest part of learning is understanding what you are seeing and how it all comes together. Easy for some, complicated for most.
Dude.. that bike is the worst..
My 2017 with a rake of 37° is perfect. No problems at all. Problem is that many people will look or come up to you about your bike. That I don't care for. Handles just as good if not better than my StreetGlide.
Do you need a tuner with slip-ons?
No
Try the Kuryakyn mirror extensions to move them out 3” in each direction. It makes it much easier to see what’s behind you. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
