  • Rare colour film of the coronation of His Exalted Highness the Eighth Nizam of Hyderabad in 1967. Hyderabad had been India's largest princely kingdom prior to Indian Independence. The Nizam was its ruler and in the mid 20th century, the world's richest man (Hyderabad had the largest diamond deposits in the world). This film follows the trail of the 8th Nizam (Mukarram Jah) all the way to Australia, where he sought an escape from his royal duties...

After emerging victorious in the war against Pakistan in 1965, India faced threat from its other neighbour China. In that situation the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri started collecting funds to combat any potential threat. He set up National Defence Fund for the purpose. The government of India appealed to Rajas to help in the difficult situation but they didn’t come up to the expectations.
Then Lal Bahadur Shastri headed for Hyderabad; he knew that Huzoor Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan would not disappoint Indian government. The PM visited Hyderabad and requested the Nizam to contribute generously to the National Defence Fund. Without a second thought, Mir Osman Ali announced that he would contribute five tonnes of gold for National Defence Fund. The announcement left the people present their flabbergasted. But Asif Jah VII created a record by making biggest ever contribution by any individual or organisation in India that remains unsurpassed till today. In terms of today’s gold price this donation translates to a whopping Rs 1,500 to 1600 crore.

The year was 1932. The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Puna, needed money for publication of the Hindu epic, ‘Mahabharata', and construction of a guest house. A formal request was made to the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan. He lost no time in issuing a ‘farman' granting Rs. 1,000 per year for 11 years. For the guest house Rs. 50,000 was offered.

Akbar left behind a rich legacy both for the Mughal Empire as well as the Indian subcontinent in general. During his reign, the nature of the state changed to a secular and liberal one, with emphasis on cultural integration. He also introduced several far-sighted social reforms, including prohibiting sati, legalising widow remarriage and raising the age of marriage.

Nizam ruling: nijam'z wer richest ruler ever
so true it was not hyderabad wealth its nizam's own property
so called development which was done to hyderabad was coz of nizams selfishness its was his property he build his palaces with the money which was collected as a fund from people all over the telanagana.. he treated people as slaves. no one in hyderabad liked nizam's ruling. why is that the entire telangana region was not developed only hyderabad was developed? coz nizam liked his property to built in his place and the rest of the people suffered a lot.. only kings got benefited. nijam's made people to bend on their keens while they are traveling on streets.Nijam's actually wanted to join Pakisthan.
Nijam gave 20CR to pakistan during indopak war..
Razakars were responsible for the killing, rape, and brutal murder of many people in the Telangana and Marathwada region
if you dont agree u dont know the history.

Some guys claim Nizam was great but I am a witness that he was not but allowed his soldiers to loot many poor people of his state. Indian forces fought his muslim soldiers or razakars but has his ancestors not took the region of hyderabad from earlier hindu kings? Overall muslims invaded India over period of time so history repeated in case of Nizam and others too. Has not Pak invaded the parts of Jammu and Kashmir kingdom and forcefully occupied his kingdom in the name of their religeon? So stop such non-sense talk. Nizam may be rich but his people that includes me remained poor. First of all Indians need to stop biasing on regionalism and have a sense of national unity. How many people of today;s educated are not going to Bangalore and looting the local jobs in that case> Better to think of nationalism and prosper rather than regional and factionism.
