Very interesting to see the difference.
Thinking we need to see the 11-36 installed and how it works.
A very brief test ride confirms it's all working fine. 1.5 turns on the B screw to move the jockey down the ~4mm extra radius of the 36T compared to 34T.
Which exact cassette did you use? 105 11-36?
Yes, that's the only 11-36 12sp.

@@wiedsesteurs6043 As long as you don't use 'big-big' then no, otherwise possibly. I have my Di2 setup to change the front a couple down from that anyway, so should never be an issue.

tried the 105 12 speed 11-36 in my Ultegra 12 speed, it works but the shifting from 11T to 12T is noticeably slow. Other than that it works fine
difference in radius of a 34 to a 36 cassette is roughly 3mm. Assuming from tooth to tooth we have 10mm (which I believe is pretty accurate)
I don't believe 3mm is such a big difference, the derailleur should accommodate for some tolerances, not all frames are equal...

Shimano is usually pretty conservative with their cassette compatibility so unless you have a RD hanger that is right on (or below) the bottom end of the spec, the Ultegra RD is likely to work with the upcoming 11-36. As an example, heaps of people were able to fit 11-40 cassettes onto GRX 812 derailleurs which were theoretically only rated to 34t. That’s a whopping 6t difference whereas in this case it’s only 2t. I’m hearing the 12sp 11-36 may be some weeks/months away still, unfortunately. Likely to be available for retail alongside GRX and/or 105 12sp mechanical. Cheers big fella

Completely agree. I was able to run my GRX 812 1x setup with a 46t worked fine!

I was able to make it work with a dura ace 9100 with no modifications using an 11-36, it will shift a tad slower but it's good enough.
Where can we get those Shimano gages you are using? Shimano part number?
May I ask, who has actually put an 11-36 on and which exact cassette? Should I put a 105 cassette on and give it a shot or get hands on the new GRX 12 speed cassette (is that just a MTB cassette that already exists + change to micro spline right). I want to do this but dont want to screw up how nice my RD 8100 works (top notch).

GRX uses the existing road cassettes. Only current option is 105 (HG710) AFAIK

With the new 12speed mechanical GRX, are we saying the advertised cassette is the 105? Or will they truly design a hyper glide plus cassette for that group?

I have an allied Echo and the real challenges tire clearance versus the Ultegra front derailer if GRX comes out electronic and 12 speed, I will change the Cranks and the derailer to get me much better lower gearing plus more tired Clarence, assuming GRX derailer gives more space in my frame. That might move me from 38 mm tires to 40 or certainly 42 mm. Then I am completely satisfied with my Allied echo.
Can you fit say an 12 speed 11/40 cassette with or without a wolf tooth on the R8150 di2 Ultegra? Is it even possible for better climbing.

Wolf Tooth say they're not compatible with 12sp. Highly unlikely (I will never say never) you could get it working without an extender.

with the 11 Speed R8000 groupset, we needed a Wolftooth link to install a 11-42T Cassette but 11-40T was fitting without needing a Woolflink because the RD had a sort of a similar factory installed link on the RD. So I expect, with the new 12-Speed R8100 groupset you should be able to push a 11-40T Cassette wothout it. For 11-42T I suppose we need to wait for Wolftooth to come up with a new link. However, the bigger issue now is there aren't any 12-speed 11-40T or 11-42T cassettes on the market that are shimano compatible. Right? Even the 105 11-36T cassette is NOT hyperglide+ like the Ultegra cousin's cassettes. So we can put 11-36T but expect a little degradation in shifting quality.

As long as you're also using a HG+ chain, yes.
I have Dura-ace 9200 RD which should be at same spec as Ultegra 8150. Will my Dura-ace also work fine with big cassette 11-36 ? Now in the market 11-36 from 105 12sp is available , also Rotor 11-36 12 sp also available at much lighter weight at about 230g only (360g+ for 105)
Yeah, the Rotor cassette is a good deal lighter and it also costs more than 5X more than a 105 11-36 cassette. $450 versus about $80. 😀

I see ROTOR now has a 12-speed 11-36T and a 11-39T Cassette... not quite 11-40T but that would be great if it fits the Ultegra R8100 without Woolftooth no?
Based upon how far he was able to move down the cage in this vid it looks like the Ultegra Di2 rear derailleur would shift an 11-39 cassette. If for some reason it did not the 105 Di2 rear derailleur would certainly work and you could just swap out the derailleurs.

Why in the absolute hell is there not a 11-36 ultegra cassette what in the world is going on I can not imagine a possible reason why there isn’t. WTH
The answer will be that the target market for DA/Ultegra typically won't need 36T cassettes, so they've optimised the RD cage to work 11-34 max. It'll work (unofficially) with 36T, but it will not work /quite/ as well - of course, most riders will never notice the difference and also won't notice the difference between HG and HG+.

Can confirm that everything worked fine on the Dragon Devil last weekend (276km with 3800m) with 1.5 turns (actually 1.25 turns, I think)
