in 1969 this was the fastest snowmobile in the world
The record was broken by Duane Eck in West Yellowstone, Montana
He clocked in at 95.33 mph, that's 153kph
The snowmobile is called the "Double Eagle" because of its two engines.
It's based on a stock 1969 T'NT Ski Doo, but with 2 Rotax 399cc engines
They are both twin cylinders, giving this sled a total of 4 cylinders.
it developed 130hp
The Ski Doo factory built 24 of these, and unfortunately I couldn't confirm if this this is the actual one that broke the speed record. I assume it is, because of the markings, but its unclear as I didn't get a chance to talk to the owner.

Duane Eck is my uncle, this is really cool that he set that record back then. He is also in the hall of fame for racing. Sadly he passed away on 8-15-20.

Hi all. I knew and raced in a number of events when Duane was at his best. The sled here is not twin 399, it was fitted with highly modified 640 engines. i raced the factory version of the Eagle with the 399 engines. For a speed record with the bigger more powerful engines it was good, but not for oval. The speed record is impressive in that West Yellowstone is at over 6500 ft and they would run on the old airport strip on the edge of town.
Duane eck is my great grandpa. Sadly he passed away yesterday on 8-15-2020
I had a 1969 Coleman Skiroule, a 1971 Johnson Challenger, and like a 1972 Sno-Flite...( back in Upstate New York) Sno-Flite was Yellow and Massey Ferguson was Red, but they were the same sled...Excuse me!, The " Wheelhorse" snowmobile was Red, same as a Yellow Sno-Flite sled, but Red in color...
