Nice sled!! My wife has 87 stratos. We have had since 98. Been very good and fun to ride. This was the 1st sled my wife learned to ride on. We're going over it to ride this winter. We live in northern Minnesota. Ours is blu. Thank you for showing. Beautiful sound!
My Uncle bought one new in the late 80's. He had so much trouble with it He never bought another Skidoo ever again. I was young at the time and thought it was pretty cool because that was the first IFS sled I ever saw. I think His overheated and popped pistons and had a lot of breakdowns. He sold it that first year and kept his older Yamaha Enticer.
It probably overheated because the fan belt broke. No body ever thinks to maintain anything. Ski doo is a super reliable snowmobile. Ive owned over 2 dozen.
He bought it new and It blew up after the first 2 or 3 weeks, it had maybe 300 or 400 miles on it. Something was defective from the factory for sure, my best guess is a torn crank seal. or something wrong with the fan. The dealer then rebuilt it 3 times in the first season and my uncle sold it after the warranty expired. He had to fight to get it rebuilt the second and third time.
I got the.same sled it had been sitting In a guys yard for 4 years. When I got it I replaced all the lines new plugs and fuel pump last year I drove it for 2 weeks before I put it away for the summer A few days ago I put in fresh gas gave it one pull and it started after a few minutes it stalled out after some octane boost it started right up. You said there was a few left in your area . There is three that I know of in ontario Canada that are still running. I've been told there wasn't to many made only 2 years and people say it's due to the design being ugly And something was said that they were overpowered with the size of the motor compared to the size of the sled but I could have misunderstood what was said However my wife loves it and has now claimed it
I will let you know if I end up buying one I'm looking at In Ontario right now. Clean from what I can see and only $500 we will see if I end up buying it
We had one (still do in pieces) and it was very unreliable. This one clearly had the recall performed with the beautiful vents added to the right side of the cowl to prevent the fan side piston from blowing out. Interesting this one still has the baffle in front of the windshield that he pointed to. Dealer took ours out as part of the recall to help air movement. Always started like a hog, broke track clips every ride out, etc…the list goes on.
You are correct. This did have the extra vent put in the hood for enhanced cooling. Interestingly enough since the time I posted this video a buddy picked up another stratos that hasn't had the extra vent recall done. Haven't really noticed a difference in cooling between the two machines, but I'll probably talk him into putting it in just in case. This one starts easy but you kind of have to nurse it with the primer while it's really cold until it warms up a bit. Been like that since brand new and the carbs are spotless.
Nice i got a New throttel cable and intake rubber a cople weeks ago and now it runs perfekt and i deleted the oil injekson because i codent find a tripple wire because it dident fit My vm 32 carburaters here in norway and sorry for My bad spelling 😁

A couple thousand isn’t rare for a snowmobile, a couple hundred is rare
these were some serious pieces of shit. they were all scrap a couples of years later
