  • Mississippi Student Talks Class Rank Change After Black Students Get Top Spots
A Mississippi School District is under fire and facing allegations of racism after two Black students were named Valedictorian and Salutatorian, but then the district made a last-minute change. The district said it made a mistake in determining class rank and they added two white students to the roles to recognize four students. BNC contacted West Point High School, and they said a new employee made the error. Layla Temple, the school's salutatorian, and her mother Lanika join "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss the incident.

The new employee did not make a mistake. They told the truth and didn’t know to be on code to lie in my opinion. Layla no matter what they did you are still on top. A lie doesn’t trump truth. Forever the other two will go down in history as thieves encouraged by their parents teaching and reinforcing the since of entitlement

Then she was the first to do a unique, never-before-seen quad jump thing. Amazing. They said it couldn't count because it was "too dangerous" for others (read white girls) to attempt. Yes that is true and if the superintendent had made the decision solely based on the school handbook the two white students would have REPLACED the two black students because a mistake had indeed been made in the calculations according to the published handbook. Instead trying to be fair to all the superintendent ( who coincidentally is also black) decided to allow all four to share the honor. @Dnomyar Akunawik America is the shortest lived civilization to date in the history of World empires. The longevity and successes of any civilizations is largely attributed to the resources that can back and sustain its economy. America has none, Europe has always had the least. Africa is literally a land of Gold, Diamonds, and the finest mineral resources. Africa has a thoroughly documented history of being self sustained prior to colonization and exploitation. This directly refutes the notion we have "always" been anything. Pale people have been on the planet the least amount of time and are always trying to tell someone something. In an earlier post (that was taken down)-Mr. & Ms. Entitlement parent(s) said, "if those black parents do not like it," you fill in the blank. The superintendent should be ashamed of him/herself, crooked as they come for something not earned. What some parent(s) (in this case white parents) put on the shoulders of their children without a care in the world is mind-boggling. There are consequences to everyone's actions. I feel bad for the students who have parents like this. This story made national news, and to have those two white students think they will glide through college and careers without this topic being brought up is delusional. Ethics is a big deal; morals are a big deal, although it is not a big deal at West Point High School, Mississippi school district. Companies scan social media, and when they get wind of this, good luck in explaining yourselves. Your parents will not be there for the two white students. There is a considerable flaw in your character because YOU two white students went along with the lie. You should have stood up to your parents two white students and told your parents no. You should have told your parents, I want these two black young ladies that earned the Sal and Val to be front and center, not me. You are old enough to know right from wrong. Your skewed I am sorry during your 10th-year reunion will not matter, not unless you own up to what your parents did in front of the entire 2021 class student body. Now you will forever, you alone will carry that lie on your shoulder, and you are two weak people, weak to the bones. You did the act based on falsehood and deceit! It's up to you two white students to make a wrong a right publicly. God holds all the cards, not your deceitful parents! I can only imagine what other deceitful things your parents have done. Don't get mad at me for posting, your parents along with your Superintendent of Schools did the act and you followed along for the entire world to know. Take that finger and turn it on yourselves. Why am I posting this, I am sure you will add Valedictorian and Salutatorian to your resumes. Good luck explaining!

I and another lady, a white lady who is about 13 years older than I, were hired to work for this company. We both have 20+ years experience in the field of work, but I have the skillset in most of the areas the job requires. We have the same responsibilities, but initially they gave her the Sr. title. I was going to be ok, until after a few weeks in and I realize she knew nothing and was planning on having me do all the work, well, she said, "I've never been given access to anything and had to always sit at my desk, but I can see you just handling everything on the floors and bringing the information back on how you handled and resolved issues, then U will document it." I responded with, "No Ma'am I will not! You are going to help." I asked my manager what was the reason I was not hired as a Senior. I didn't want to sound petty, because I am not, but I realized what was happening. So it completely threw him off and he stuttered as he gave me an excuse. It didn't fly with me and ge knew it. So within a week, I was also a Senior and received a raise. It still doesn't sit well with me because she steals my knowledge and reports it as if it originated with her, interrups me to asks questions about the issues she is trying to handle while I am working on a project or assisting someone, then goes behind me tobsee what I did so when it's her turn, she will know. When she messes up, she tries to include my name in her mess. I need my job, and I have told her to learn on her own. Especially after she removed my name from a document I created. I don't trust her and it's becoming an issue. I feel like I am babysitting and just annoyed by her everyday I come in. It's in her nature though and she asked me why I keep bringing what she did up because she has apologized. She is covertly racist too. It is just the principle of the matter and the stealing too. I have to state and prove what I did all the time and don't like it.

Nope, I'd request an audit of ALL the grades from the courses for all 4 students, when were the grades submitted etc. Furthermore, what's the likelihood of BOTH standings (valedictorian & salutatorian) were calculated incorrectly? And were either of the other students in the running for those honors PRIOR to the "discovery" of these "miscalculations"? Lastly, they didn't call to inform these students because they didn't want to be challenged & they wanted to inflict maximum harm to their graduation day.

Besides, there is no big different between QPA and GPA, but the fact that QPA is actually a higher standard and involves honors classes. I'm sure those other students they added didn't have as much honors or have Lowe grade in honor classes and that why QPA didn't make sense. These parents need to sue the school system for two reasons. First, to compensate this young lady for the hurt caused by this despicable incident. Second, to prevent this from happening again in the future. The term "fair and equal" for Blacks is a misnomer. The so-called privileged in this country do not know how to compete on a level playing field. In every aspect of American life we must fight harder to gain an equal amount of fair treatment. If we compete and succeed then the rules and standards change. For instance, the Black couple whose home value increased when a white couple toured the home with the appraiser or the school district whose rating was dropped when a Black student was the valedictorian of their class. We can only change these injustices with strength, unity, and hard work. The Republicans are coming for us and we better be prepared.
