    You can take apart those ground distribution things that you were cleaning around and clean them also. Mine is an '01. I had a few recurring gremlins with mine that were cleared up with a brand new and one size bigger battery. My optima red top was 3 years old, so I thought it was good. On a whim I replaced it and have had 2 minor incidents in (electrical related) 18 months.

    My wifes C5 had the Service ride control mesg. Cleaning the grounds behind the R wheels on the frame fixed it. We had an intermittent engine stop and crank no start. That one took 3 months to finally narrow it down to the female connector going to the Crank pos sensor. Behind the str mtr. Lots of heat dirt and oil there. $!0.00 pig tail all good now.

    I have a 2001 C5 that was built in October-November of 2000. My EBCM was replaced years back to solve the constant Service ABS, Traction Control etc message. That repair cost me $2600. The new replacement EBCM worked fine for a year and then started with the same intermittent Service ABS etc messages for years. I plan to repair the EBCM circuit board with new solder on several points. However, my right door threw a NO COMM code when all the electrical power to that door stopped everything from working there. This apparently prevented my Remote Keyless Entry FOB from working (new batteries did nothing) the door, trunk etc. I have wiggled the wires in the accordion shield and power was briefly restored (to get the window up or down), but clearly, this needs to be examined and fixed My car is garaged so water is not the culprit there. Electrical gremlins...I hate them. BTW, what was intermittent with DIC reporting Service ABS etc has now become consistent. The interesting thing is that the service report has never effect the brakes , traction control etc. I will report back on this thread with what fixes work.

      Like you I have had my ebcm replaced a few years back. No random codes for awhile then slowly started getting abs, traction control, and other codes. Cleaned grounds which didn’t solve it. Recently had my ignition switch replaced which at least temporarily has cleared all the codes and nothing random popping up. Not sure how long the fix will last but something you might want to consider. Good luck

    The black plastic connectors esp in the engine bay can be prone to failure if water gets in them. Take them apart, clean up the contacts. For the ground points just in front of the door hinges, you can take off the black plastic ground connector and instead bolt the grounds to the metal panel with ring terminals. There's some good posts in the corvette forum about this.

    • @dantedoescars
      @dantedoescars  3 года назад

      Thanks for commenting I will look into opening the connectors and inspect those also!!

  • @billboyle7866
    @billboyle7866 2 года назад +2

    Today, following up on my post below, I was able to look at the connectors and found nothing unusual. The connectors were not inside the rubber accordion shield but actually in side the A pillar. The accordion shield has no slit in it unlike what the video shows. Being whole it was difficult to squeeze it enough to access the connectors. Everything is back in place now. No fix was made so I will try and see if the re-positioning of the connectors makes a difference. All electric on the right door works. I also ran the codes and before this effort I got a NO COMM code. Now, no code. Whether this issue was a short or a ground issue somewhere, I just don't know. In the past I have personally accessed many of the grounds and cleaned them off. They were all clean before and tight. My C5 is garaged with the usual battery tender in operation. It is mostly a show car now.

    Instead of black electrical tape, use gaffer's tape. It's waterproof and doesn't degrade and get 'gummy" over time.

      @@dantedoescars just got my car back from service.. i will be trying again to work on this issue soon. It's funny in the vid 5:30 you said you would try to disconnect it with one hand, a while ago i tried for like an hour to disconnect that cable. It looks like your accordion is cut, i've considered cutting mine so I could remove it so there's more room to try to disconnect the cables.. i haven't cut them because i'd rather they stay water tight. My traction control goes on and off randomly which I think is a symptom (among a few others) that i think is due to the grounds needing to be cleaned. I'm wondering if you made part 2 of this vid yet? Thanks

      C5 and electrical gremlins. I would first try simple stuff like battery tested at autozone for free, these cars are known for parasitic drain big time. But after that shake the passenger black accordion wiring as you try to put window up and see if that puts it up.

      @@dantedoescars it could be your battery is not fully charged. This just stated happening to mine. (2003 cont vette) Not fully at 14.2 volts. Traction control and ABS come on i just reset If i driver for approximately 15 or so minutes battery is at 14.2. I stop shut vette of and restart either within a few seconds or even wait 30 or so minutes. I start and everything is gone. Overnight with or without battery tender everything lights up again. Run it and turn engine off everything gone. Interesting??? Thought i would share.

      I had similar issues, there are 4 BCM ground connections I cleaned real well which at first didn't seem to do anything... only after 3rd restart/ignition cycle did the codes go away. Since then whenever it rains its about a 50/50 chance if those errors will pop up so I must have a water leak somewhere.
